A Friend Needs Advice and Help--NOW!!!!
by whyizit ina good friend of mine is a former jw.
she is married to an active jw and her children are still jws.
her husband has demanded that they discuss why she is no longer willing to go to meetings, etc... she is wondering what subject would be the best to approach him with first.

Your freind is in a position similiar to my own. I hope for her sake she's not in as deep as me. If she still considers herself a Christian, I think using John 14:6 would be the best route. Have her ask him if he sees any Orginazation in that scripture. Ask him if he could in good conscience re-translate it to say "I (and the Watchtower Society) am the way the truth and the life"? Just a thought. seek2find

So which Bible translation do you prefer, and why?

I also recently downloaded E-Sword. I like the Contemporary English Version. I usualy use at least 2 different translations in my daily reading Usualy the NWT, the CEV and the NIV or the NASB, there are things I like about them all. I like the way the the CEV is read in the audio section of the Bible Gateway web site, which I use daily also. Of the versions I listed, Only the CEV are available in E-Sword, but it is still a very usefull program and I would highly recomend it to others. It can be found at www.e-sword.net Its absoultly free (donations are accepted, but not required, it is freeware)This just goes to show that not all religious people outside JWs are in it for the money, as is sometimes implied. seek2find

Buy This
by Honesty inand all people will know that you are my disciples, if you:.
attend 5 kingdom hall meetings each week.. report at least 10 hours a month in field service.. confess sins to your local elders.. report any other person's sins to your local elders.. believe everything the "faithful discreet slave" publishes in the pages of the watchtower.. wear a coat and tie (male) or modest skirt/dress (female) to all kingdom hall meetings.. do not 'partake' of the wine and bread at the memorial.. .
do all of the above and you might be in line for this:.

I Read it during the winter of 1995-1996, keeping it hid and reading little bits at a time. Actualy my curosity was raised by postings I had seen on the Old Prodigy Bulletin boards. One post was from a Woman named Margie and she stated that if a person could read COC and remain a witness they would be a pretty good witness. Well, 10 years latter I'm still a witness technicaly speaking. But she was right, because I know longer beleive it's the truth. Regardless of what a persons oppinion of Ray is, the real issue is if it,(what he says)is true or false? Much of what he says is not able to be said to be false, because its well documented. So what does that mean? My sumation of it is this. Ray is a man like me with his on set of weaknesses and problems, he didn't try to deny that. He admited he was wrong and should have stood up for what was right sooner. I think Ray should at least be commended for being respectfull at the same time as being truthfull. He could have taken the low road and slammed everyone and everybody he ever knew and fostered a hatred of anybody or anything witness related, but he didn't do that. If your going to read it because you've already formed a hatred for the Orginazation I'd recomend skipping it and reading a good novel instead. But if you are still wanting to worship God and are having diffuculty copping with some of the things you see that don't seem right then I think it would be good to read. When the book is read, I think the reader would do well to focus on the big picture, and that is that God doesn't want people to worship him through and orginazation, But only through his son. Putting faith in him. That's what it means to be a Christian. seek2find

What about the Children?
by seek2find insomething that's really been eating at me latley is how during my growing up in the orginazation and now my childrens growing up in it, nothing has been done on an organizational level to benifit the children.
why has there never been any organizational focus on the need for congregations to sponsor activities for young people.
many churches and church groups have extensive ministrys to reach young people.

To Soapy Dish: I'm glad you have some good memorys of your childhood down in Mexico, I wonder if the atmosphere was different there because of the cultural differences, or if it had something to do with the organizations registerd status as a educational organization rather than a religion. When you have some time could you shed some lite on this for us as someone who actualy lived there. I hear that they didn't sing songs at the Hall. Is that true?
To Lady Liberty: I appreaciated your comments, especialy the part about being easily manipulated. I feel sometimes like my whole life has been lived as a puppet with numerous strings attached. The way I moved and the things I did were dependant on which strings were pulled. seek2find -

I guess the kids just get the short end of the stick all the way around, if they are not being abused physicaly or sexualy, they are being chastised, isolated and alienated. seek2find
