Mouthy, I enjoyed reading your post on this subject. I have to agree that Jesus is the answer. I don't know how to get people like our friend Terry here to see that. I would like to Just say Terry, if you never have before, ask Jesus to come into your life and your heart and to help you to make him your Lord and Savior. I have a friend that says that "God does not reveal himself to the casual observer" I beleive that. So we have to go from being a casual observer to an active participant. One good way is to spend regular time in prayer and Bible reading, use several translations. Seek the real "Truth" and he will let himself be found. IT IS TIME FOR A___CONFESSION!
by Terry inthere is an old-fashioned definition of the word "confession" which is the public expression of one's deepest faith and belief.. take a deep breath and give a one or two paragraph summary of your deepest belief.. i'll go first.. from the time i was a small child i had a deep and abiding reverence for god as a father.
(my own father i never even met until i searched and found him when i was 25 years old.

The message sounded to me Like "Come to the Organization for salvation". I prefer the more scriptual message come to Jesus Christ for salvation (John 14:6) Also it seemed that the talk contained more quotes from Watchtower publications than from scripture. I agree with what another poster said, not much "special" about it. seek2find

Remember the slide presentations

when i was a kid i remember how excited i was..........i still remember some of the slides.
an old one from the 70's where a blind girl keeps asking her dad when she will be able to see this and that and the father would say " in the new system my dear".

I have definitely seen a change. No get-togethers unless someone dies or gets married. Every trip to the KH seems like going to a penal institution everyone "preforming" as expected. No original anything, just all a big preformance. I don't know the exact numbers but many are on anti-depressants and are in bad marriages . Everyone seems to just be holding on waiting for something but nothing ever comes. Sad, I pray for the day it will all end, if not for the rest maybe just for me. Not the end of life, just the end of the preformance. Family is the reason I stay. seek2find

Jesus never used the name Jehovah???
by Mrs Smith inmy hubby and i have been doing a lot of bible reading are we correct by saying that jesus never once used the name jehovah?
if the name is so important surely jesus would have used it?
the jw's say that jesus was the greatest teacher and that we should follow his example so why are they using a name that jesus did not once refer to.

Mrs. Smith, It's good to hear that you and Husband have been reading the Bible. I've thought a lot about what you mention about Jesus not using the name Jehovah. I think that is a valid point. One thing that also strikes me is that according to Exodus 6:3, Abraham Isaac and some other faithful men of old didn't even know God by his name but knew him as "God Almighty" This leads me to believe that The divine name was to be used only by the Nation of Israel when they were in the special covenant relationship with God. By the time Jesus came on the seen they had long since fallen out of good standing with him. It seems that If Jesus wanted his disciples to use the Divine name he would surely have used it in Matt. the 6th chapter where he was instructing the disciples how to pray. He didn't but said instead that he should address him as "Father" The witnesses like to say that it's dishonoring to God to refer to him as LORD or God without using his name. But here in America how many people would refer to the President of this nation, when in his personal pressence,as George? No the generaly accepted way to address him is "Mr. President". if a mere man who is a ruler deserves such respect as to not be referred to by his name but as by title of his position should not the Greatest person in the Universe also? I never got the explanation offered by the witnesses of how the divine name was to be "Hallowed" or Sanctified. As Jesus said it should be at Matt 6:9 The New Living Translation says "Let you name be honored" So just as we honor the President by not referring to him by his name, so we honor the father by Referring to him as Father Or LORD. Society won't risk being sued "for the sake of the Good News" - thoughts?
by UnConfused inhave you noticed that while anything can happen to publishers for the sake of the good news the society cant risk being sued for the sake of the good news?.
the society will quote and site scripture as to the trials paul experienced for the sake of the good news.
the society will tell the life stories of jws who have suffered personally, some ultimately for the sake of the good news.
