Jamie Bowers, I'm not still in, I just went as an observer with my Family. My wife and Daughter deposited checks that were made out to Watchtower and then they were hunted down by one of the elders and told they had to change the Payee. I was disfellowshipped in March for Apostasy, because I believe Jesus is the only hope for salvation not the Watchtower Society. I also do not believe the Faithful slave teaching, nor do I believe the 2 class system or the 1914 Christ presence teaching. That's just to name just a few doctrines I no longer believe . seek2find

What's up with this????
by seek2find inat this weekends convention july 4-6 it was announced that donations by check must be made out to the "christian congregation of jehovah's witnesses", and that if you had made one out to watchtower you should go to the chairmans office and change it.
why the change this year, and what difference does it make?
seemed strange to me, of course many things seem strange to me about this religion these days seek2find

Hi James, Thanks for your input. I wonder if maybe they may be expecting to have to file bankruptcy at some point and are trying to get good at juggling funds to avoid loosing large amounts in case of a class action suit or other legal action. There has to be a reason, just not sure. seek2find

I really relate to you in your position and contrary to what others have said here, I believe the witnesses do have a lot of things right. It's like the illustration I heard once about a very effective rat poison. It contained about 97 Percent nutritious corn meal and only about 3 percent stricknine (or arsenic, i don't remember which) I think that's a good analogy because the Society insist that you swallow the whole 100 percent resulting in sure spiritual death. So my advice, don't throw away everything you learned as a witness, just learn to separate the real truth from the poison. And most of all keep praying, and asking God for his guidance. If I can be of any help PM me anytime. I feel for you, I've been where you are. It's frightening. I know. seek2find

I was 12 Years old in 1969 and remember going to The 8 dayer in the Braves stadium in Atlanta Georgia. We drove 130 Miles one way, every day morning and evening for the first 5 days. The session wasn't over until 9:00 PM and by the time we drove 130 Miles home (It took at least an hour to get out of the stadium and to our car and took about an hour to get out of Atlanta), it was 1:30 to 2:00 AM and we got up at 6 AM to do it again. Now the organization is worried about people not being able to make it to the Tuesday night book study because of it being such a "Burden". Wow things have really deteriorated over the years. seek2find

I don't know if all these talks were given word for word from an outline or manuscript, they must not have been. I heard the one given by Governing body member Sam Herd and I remember him saying "We should trust the Faithful and discreet slave completely, it's God's arrangement for salvation" When I heard that statement it was like a final nail closing the door shut. It was a defining moment when the bells and sirens went off in my head and I knew without a doubt, that JWs had missed the mark and was not, and could not be the truth. The words of Peter came to my mind in Acts the fourth chapter when speaking of Christ, he said "there is no other name under Heaven by which men must get saved" seek2find

One thing that comes to my mind and that I'm going through right now, is this. I show my wife how the Bible says that Jesus is the way to Salvation like at John 14:6 and Acts 4:12. She says she beleives that. But then turns around and implies that if I don't come back and get re-instated, I will die at Armageddon. It's inconsistent. JW's main problem is their reasoning on Matt:24:45-47. There is no "faithfull slave class", that was another of many illustrations Jesus used that wasn't meant to be taken literally. The slave represented individual Christians who were to do what their master wanted until he returned. In my opinion. The Watchtower sets itself up in the Place of Christ. Blasphemy! Sorry to vent, good luck with your presentation. seek2find

Hello, and welcome to JWD! I'am always happy to see someone who's left but still wanting to remain a Christian (or become one which ever way you want to look at it.) As far as Bible translations are concerned, I like the NIV, but I do a lot of comparasions with other translations. What I find interesting is that I haven't ran across any so far that have an appendix in the back that has to explain their way of wording certain verses, like the NWT does. This ought to raise a red flag to the thinking JW that something is not quite right about the translation. You might like to read the Paper version of Gods word, but if you don't mind reading on your computer, I recommend a program called E-Sword thats available for free via download. I use it every day along with the audio versions supplied by www.biblegateway.com. If you or anyone else needs help using e-sword please PM me and I'll try to help. There's even a way to get the NWT into it for comparasion purposes. It's a great tool. I'm thankful to Rick Meyers for developing the program and to God for his help in finding it. Take care, seek2find

State Truthful Facts About JWs That Make Them Look Bad, Weird, Foolish
by minimus inyou don't need to exaggerate the foibles of jws to get the point across that they are not "the truth".
can you state some facts that show that jehovah's witnesses are not "normal' and that their religion is weird and simply abnormal?.

I wasn't there, but I knew the Gregersons. They came to Gadsden, in the late 60s or early 70s. I was friends with The youngest son Doug. Their kids as I remember were, Peter junior, David, Doug, Vicki and Debbie I spent a night or 2 in their home. I left the area about 1974 and lost contact with them. Does anyone know where Doug is now? Are you on here Doug? seek2find
