Yesterday My wife left the watchtower out for me to read the lesson which I still do to show that I'm not close minded. At the end of the article, there was another small article about Gods name. (An mp3 of the article can be found here http://www.jw.org/index.html?option=QrYQZRQVNZNT) In this article it speaks of a Catholic cardinal who gave a sermon where he used the Latin spelling of the divine name and said that it was definitely Gods name. A footnote also says that the sermon was in support of the trinity. I don't understand the logic, or lack thereof, using a Catholic reference to support anything when according to the society they are the ring leaders of "Apostate Christendom" On one hand they say they are reputable because they supported the divine name, but on the other they are apostate. Where is the consistency???? seek2find

NN The Nolan voice is the one I'm thinking of, but I don't have a file to link to of the watchtower recordings. I'm going by memory. I used to listen to the cassette tapes and this voice sounded similar to one of the readers that read the study articles. I'll see if I can locate an example. I doubt that they're the same, surely the Watchtower has it's own inside readers. seek2find

Born again JW's?
by free2beme ini am sorry, but i just find it so hard to see a bunch of former witnesses doing the whole born again thing.
acting in a way that is just trading one line of thought, for another.
basically, one time you said you were waiting for the "new system" and now you pulled that thought out and replaced it with the "waiting for heaven" comment.

I think the term "Born again" carries different meanings to different people. The way we were taught as witnesses was that "Born again Christians" were all glassy eyed snake handlers speaking in tongues and "being slain in the spirit" maniacs. Maybe a rare few who claim to be born again fit this description. But these cases are rare. I think the common thread of those who are really Born again is that they have reached the point in their lives where they realize that they can't do things on their own anymore and submit to Christ leadership and living by power of the Holy Spirit. A new life begins and a new direction is taken. seek2find

I think it's possible that Peter was saying that, his experience was different because he voluntarily left rather than be disfellowshipped and that being the case, he has a different viewpoint than he would have otherwise. Regardless, I think this person is grasping for any little thing he or she can to discredit Ray. What I'd really like to know is how are they going to defend the Society's position on issues that Ray exposed. For instance how about the registration of the Organization in Mexico as a "Cultural Organization" to get around the property ownership laws. Doing so greatly restricted the witnesses use of the Bible and their way of worship. Isn't that called compromise? How many times were we as witnesses instructed to not compromise? I remember not standing for the national anthem because it would be a compromise. seek2find

A scripture for sspo: John 12:39,40 (NIV) "For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere: "He has blinded their eyes and deadened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn--and I would heal them."

NowImfree, I also had a dream experience, actually more than one. But one was the most impressive. I learned the truth about the "truth" in 1995-1996 and like you considered doing, I stayed in for the next 13 years and was finialy dis-fellowshipped for apostasy in March of this year. About the year 2000 I had the most intense dream I had ever had. At the time I didn't know what it meant. Now I know very clearly. I have a Christian friend that I've been studying the Bible with for about 3 years (He's never been a witness). Well in March of this year, one Friday morning at the end of our study by phone, I mentioned this dream I had had back in 2000 and how something that had been going on recently had got me to thinking about it. Within an hour of our phone call and elder stops by my place of work and invites me to go to coffee with him and as a result of our conversation that day, a judicial committee was formed and I was disfellowshipped. It would be hard to describe the dream in the post here, but I have no doubt it was of Divine origin. seek2find

by Witness 007 inyes as a young man on 20 out witnessing with the special pioneers one brother said his bible study wasn't home...."oh that sucks" said i......well, you would have thought i said "that sucks balls" three pioneers completely freak out and as a "trinity" start telling me off...i didn't think it was a swear word....anyone else?.
once the c.o used the term "peeved off" during his talk...well, everyone did research on the word to see if it was the same as "pissed off.

This was always a double standard that bothered me as a kid. I remember sitting in an assembly audience in Birmingham Alabama when I was very young, maybe 5 or six, and hearing one of the governing body members talking about the "Whore" of Babylon and using a few other borderline vulgar words. If we as rank and file would have used these words in everyday speech we would have been chastised. But it was OK for the GB. seek2find

Well here I go, walking on thin ice. But I'll try to give you my perspective. Yes I do consider myself "Born again". Basically to me that term means to make a new start in a new direction. In my case it's in the direction of Christ and following him and not an organization. In your case, I think we could say that you were "born again" also, into a state of disbelief in the divine author of you life. Your post, and much of the overall tone of many post on this board as well as others, highlights why the Watchtower Society is so dangerous. That is because they get people so wrapped up in believing it's the truth, that when they leave, they leave behind not only their religion, but also any belief in a creator. They do what Ann Landers used to refer to as "throwing out the Baby with the bathwater" Just because we were born into or converted into a deceptive organization, doesn't mean that God doesn't exist. It just means that a mistake was made, whether by us personally, or by our parents or Grandparents. Our story is not unique, it has been repeated in many different faiths down through the years. Whether you believe in God or not is a personal decision. But I wonder, if you are so sure of your way of thinking, and if this life is all there there is, why do you waste time asking others why they do believe? Wouldn't your time be better spent in pursuit of pleasure? The clock is ticking. Every second you waste is closer to the end of your life. Doesn't that thought depress you, if this is all there is? And won't it depress you even more the older you get? Sincerly, seek2find

In my earlier post in this thread I forgot to mention the most convincing thing to me was reading Hebrews chapter 11 and realizing that it was saying that the faithful men of old was looking forward to life in heaven and not on a paradise earth as we had been taught. In all the other Bibles I compared the end of verse 13 says that they "were aliens and pilgrims on the earth". Or something like that. When read in context and meditated on I think it's pretty clear that they were going to heaven. seek2find
