I am seriously considering writing an E-book
by AK - Jeff init is wise for a first time writer to write about what he knows, so i will write about my lifetime as a jehovah's witness.
but it will likely be less autobiographical and more about the sub-level markers that eventually pointed me out of the cult, doctrinal matters that bothered me under the surface, and the very real lack of love in that organization.. ideas?
thoughts?

The problem is that our experiances are like snowflakes. No two are the same. I've been thinking about a book for a long time. What I can't figure out is how to explain things in a way that others can comprehend. I find that when I tell people that I'm and ex JW, the response is often "So what". Even if it is not verbalized, you can tell, that to them it's just like being a former Baptist, or Methodist , ect. Most people just don't recognize how big of a deal it really is to those of us who have lost it all, because we no longer could follow the cult. Good luck with your project, Dan

When I first read the book, was in 1995 and I read an earlier copy. At the time the 3rd chapter was "Double Standards" it was the most eye opening to me.

The movie Castaway with Tom Hanks had parellels in it that you can relate to the JW world. Like when he tried to get off the island and the surf beat him up. Kind of like trying to leave the dubs. His socker Ball friend "Wilson" is kind of like the plastic friends one develops in the dubs (always smilling). The mental anxiety he feels even to the point of trying to kill himself. Also when he finaly is rescued and goes back to his old life and doesn't fit in anymore.

The Cheap Kodak cameras have had ongoing problems with the lens jaming. You use it for a while and then one day you turn it on and it turns off again because of the lens problem. So use caution when buying a kodak. seek2find

JW-Media.org FAQ--edited for accuracy
by sd-7 indo you believe that you are the only ones who will be saved?.
many millions who have lived in centuries past and who were not jehovahs witnesses will come back in a resurrection and have an opportunity [to become jehovah's witnesses and thus qualify to be saved] for life.
many now living may yet take a stand for truth and righteousness [become jehovah's witnesses] before gods time of judgment [against all other religions], and they will gain salvation [because of being jehovah's witnesses].

The article in it's original form is an example of deliberate deception that the Organization is so good at.

Need help disproving 607BCE
by 2pink ini hope i am posting in the right board.. anyway, i am newly out of the org, and have a dear friend who i've been speaking to all along about my thought process/decisions.
she has been hesitantly receptive (how's that for confusing?!
lol) and when i brought up 607bce to her yesterday, she was truly intrigued and had not heard of this as a false date before.. she is still half in/half out, so i know she isn't going to do a lot of naughty independent research on her own.

Hi, I have'nt had time to read all the post here, but I wanted to quickly say that The Bible account at zechariah 1:12 and also 7:5 were real good proof for me. Both mention a 70 year period. If you look in the back of the NWT to the table that explains the books of the bible and the time period they cover you will see that Zechariah covered a time period of only 2 years 518-520 BCE. If you take 518 and add 70 years you get 588, which is only 1 year off from the 587 date that most history books and Bible commentaries use. The one year off could just be a rounding difference.
I'm sure someone who's good at aguring the point could shoot this down and probally will, in the end though, there has to be good reasons why the 586-587 date is so commonoly agreed upon and I don't think it's a conspiricy as some would have us believe. 1914 is a myth and a false religious teaching from a false religion. Good luck in your quest. seek2find

In the JW viewpoint, People like Daniel and the other faithfull men of old, will be presented with a real problem when they learn about the "fulfilment" of their prophecys. They may ask some unconfortable questions. For an example I was looking recently at a scan of the publication called "the Messenger" which was a WTBTS publication released in conjunction with the 1931 Columbus Ohio assembly. There was an article in it about the "Beth Sarim" mansion in San Diego and beneath one of the photos was the Caption that said "...Do you think David will like it?" How are the witnesses going to explain that to David? I believe that an honest hearted reading of the 11th chapter of Hebrews will show, to those who are willing to accept it, that the Society is wrong about people like David and Daniel and other faithfull men of old being resurected to Paradise on earth. The context seems clear that they will recieve a heavenly reward. seek2find

Family Vacation in Colorado. Suggestions?
by M.J. ini would really love to take my family (including a couple of small kids...and maybe the dog) on a road trip to the colorado rockies in late summer.
i'd like to spend at least a week out there.
any ideas on places with some good scenery, activities, places to stay (a cabin would be cool).. i haven't been out there before, and i don't know if i want to just stay in one area or make some sort of "grand circuit".

You might want to check out the South Fork area. There is a place there called the River Bend resort. We stayed there several years ago. It was simple but nice and peacefull. Also not to far away is Creede which is a neat minning town. I really like that area. Have fun! seek2find
