do you believe in christianity, the bible, god-----or are you in the "i'm not sure what to think" class?
I will NEVER be involved in an "organized religion" again....it's just not for me...I believe in God and Jesus, angels and heaven....I consider myself a Christian but don't feel I need a church to tell me what or how to believe and act to be loved by God.

P.S. Really interesting topic...thanks for posting it
*this is a bit of a riff off of bluegrass tom's post in the bible research forumn .
in my old hall we had three interracial couples.
in fact i didn't even realise that they were interracial until i was about 12. .
This is an interesting topic to me...since I've wondered this myself, thinking maybe where I grew up in MN interracial jw marriages was just a "midwestern" thing. I attended two different congregations in the St. Paul area and both were very culturally diverse and many interracial marriages. I also never really noticed the whole "interracial thing" until my teenage years. It was just never an issue...ever! It's probably the one good thing about growing up jw...there was NEVER a difference between races..it's what made us all unique and interesting. I was always attracted to the darker skinned brothers...they just were never interested in me!

up until this evening i had thought teresa schiavo was in an unconcious state, lying on a bed with just a machine keeping her alive.
how wrong was i?
i saw her smiling and showing awareness of her surroundings.
I think the biggest thing that is so upsetting about this case to me is the fact that it seems so cruel - I'll explain: It seems to me that Terri's parents, family, and friends should be allowed to be with Terri ANYTIME they want to without limitations and restrictions from her husband. You would think that if her husband was truly allowing her to die with dignity (as he's stated many times) he would want her family and those others that love her to be by her side comforting her and allowing them to say their goodbyes...not restricting visiting hours and monitoring their actions. If he didn't want her to appear to suffer, he would allow them to wipe her dry lips with a wet cloth or wipe her face with a cool cloth. Even if she really didn't know what was happening to her, it would give her family some peace that she, at the least, appeared comfortable.
I am NOT trying to make her husband appear monsterous - but, a wet cloth or a couple of ice chips, at this point is going to do NOTHING to re-hydrate her at this point.
A few years ago when my brother, Timothy, died of brain cancer, our family and friends would spend hours with him while he was in his final days. He was in a hospice at this point and we all knew he was there to die. He appeared unconcious most of the time and some of the doctors/nurses insisted that he couldn't hear us or feel us due to the brain damage, etc - we knew this wasn't true. A minister came in a day or so before he finally died and prayed with him and tears began streaming down his cheeks. He would open his eyes occasionally and just stare at us as if to thank us for not leaving him alone. We would wipe his dry, cracked lips with a wet cloth and make sure he appeared as comfortable as possible. If someone had put restrictions on us or didn't allow us to at least make him look/feel comfortable, we would have fought "tooth and nail" to uncover why!
My point is, (I think) that if Michael Schiavo would have worked with Terri's family instead of against them, thoughout all of these years, it would not have come down to this legal battle. I think that the secretiveness of sealing her medical records, and all of the court battles over the years have just made them all so bitter towards each other.
In my opinion, he should have just let her parent assume custody and then he could have went on with his life.
Because of my experiences with my brother and others in my family with brain issues/cancer, etc. this case has really hit me hard - I'm not trying to be arguementative - maybe it's just part of my own healing process...who knows!?!

On a Schiavo related note... if her cerebral cortex has been largely replaced with cerebro-spinal fluid, what do you expect will happen when they drill a hole in her skull to remove the implants? Do you think the loss of the cerebro-spinal fluid will improve her condition? Keep in mind that the function of CS fluid is to protect the brain... even if she has very little brain left, it is still protecting it.
First and foremost, the issues and concerns that I've posted are simply my opinions - I am not related to Terri, nor am I a neurologist.
Second, I'm not suggesting that TODAY they should take her into surgery and remove the implants so that an MRI can be performed...My point was that it SHOULD have been done earlier if it was recommended by medical professionals.
And finally, I'm not completely convinced that her cerebral cortex is full of spinal fluid. The CT scans are hard to read - and they do not give a clear and accurate picture with enough detail to fully see condition or damage - an MRI is needed to do this.
Here is an interesting medical blog if anyone is interested in reading what another doctor thinks of her condition and her brain scans: http://codeblueblog.blogs.com/codeblueblog/2005/03/csi_medblogs_co.html

They can't do an MRI because she has metal implants in her head because they tried neurostimulation to try to jumpstart her cognitive function. They can't do an MRI unless they subject her to neurosurgery first. It's good to get the rest of the story instead of just the emotionalist appeals where only the tiniest bit of information is given to try and make the other side appear monstrous.
They can remove the implants...as a matter of fact the doctor that put the implants in Terri told her husband to have them removed - Michael said NO.
That IS the rest of the story.
It was NOT my intention to make the other side appear monstrous.

simon growl is predicting this week that carrie underwood will win and sell more than any previous ai winner.
of course last week he predicted bo would win.
It's gotta be Bo..
Mikayla has to leave tonight..we have to turn the tv down when she sings...it's just awful!

This case is so upsetting! I just heard a telephone interview with Terri's brother Michael Shindler...the reporter asked Michael if Terri has ever been able to have an MRI to double-check the status of her brain activity...he said NO!
NO MRI??!! EVER! How in the world can this be legal! How can a judge deny the family rights to her medical records and to allow further testing?... According to her brother, Terri's, so called husband has refused to allow her to have an MRI EVER.
I think he (Michael Shiavo) should be arrested and charged with attempted murder. Give Terri to her parents-they love her or turn custody over to the state.
Why did her husband wait 7 years to bring up the fact that she stated that she didn't want to be on life support?...What is wrong with this man?
