In a listing of references, ibid refers back to the most recently mentioned title. It's done so that the writer doesn't have to keep listing the full title each time.

''YOU are my witnesses,'' Trump card (and comfort blanket)
by MidwichCuckoo inthis, i find, is always the bottom line.
'" "'you are my witnesses,'' is the utterance of jehovah, ''and i am god.
as his name is jehovah, the people must be jehovah's witnesses.

So the WT believes they are witnesses of Jehovah.
The early disciples were told they would be witnesses of Jesus.
The WT wants to follow in the footsteps of the early disciples, right?
So why don't they conclude that Jesus is Jehovah God?
It's perfect Watchtower logic.

As I've said before around here, if the Bible was completely consistent--if everything matched up clearly, then skeptics would claim for sure that it was rigged, so there's no way to win on that one. I think the human touch it has actually makes it more believable.
Everyone can get what they want out of the Bible. Those who have a place for God in their lives will find enough to support that; those who don't will find plenty of justification for their position, too.
As strange as this may sound, if there really is a God, maybe, just maybe, that's the way he meant to set it up.

Is it better to just LEAVE or FIGHT?
by ljwtiamb inalthough, i have not been victim to the same level of damage from the wts as many of you on this site, i have noticed that it is very difficult to fight such a large entity with deep pockets and passionate (though misled) supporters.. .
since i am still in the very early stages of leaving/fading, i wonder:.
i have already spent the vast majority of my life sacrificially serving the interests of this org.

As DB74 wrote, it's a decision only you can make, and if you fight, what form that takes.
Unless someone has the resources of Bill Gates, it isn't likely he or she could have a significant impact. And sure, it would involve sacrifice to fight. But little things can help specific individuals. Whoever started this forum did something. Others have written books, started websites, or are involved in counseling. Maybe you can find something that will fit into your new post-JW life.

Sounds like you would like to sue the WT org to recover financial losses, sue for "mental anguish" and maybe seek punitive damages as well. How about a class-action suit?
I'm sure if it could be done, it would have by now.
About the only thing you can legally and morally do is try to educate others about their practices, as many have done.

Hi S,
I don't know if you're thinking of John 4:24 ("God is spirit...), but I'll put it this way:
Spiritual or physical would refer to the basic nature or dimension that is "home." Does everything spirit have substance, i. e. does it have to have mass? No. It would not even have to have form that we can physically see. But mass and form are terms related to our physical universe--our capacity to detect and measure.
The resurrected body of Jesus had a different nature, apparently having the ability to pass in and out of this worldly dimension at will. Once out of our dimension, we would not be able to detect its "solidness" (he's not the "invisible man"). The substantial nature of his body was part of the evidence that he was alive and not some vision with the dead body laying somewhere, yet he also served as a model, or prototype, for the future resurrection, perhaps having to do with a future kingdom on earth ruled by Jesus, but that gets off into another subject altogether.

"For the life of a creature is in the blood..." (Lev. 17:11)
"...flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God... . " (1 Cor. 15:50)
"' Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.' " (Luke 24:39)
The resurrected body no longer relies on blood to sustain its life. The cellular processes we need to sustain and reproduce life are no longer necessary. There's a new set of laws in play. The spiritual body has substance, but it is no longer bound by the laws of the four-dimensional physical universe that we operate in--it is subject only to the laws of the spiritual dimension, whatever those are. It can USE the laws of this physical universe, but is not imprisoned by them.
Luke and John, in particular, make it a point to demonstrate to the readers and hearers that Jesus had a physical body after his resurrection. To make it into a phantom or vision ignores the intent of the testimony in order to support a theological model where the physical resurrection does not fit.

As long as she makes a clean break from the JWs, but then she may have pressure put on her and her mother by the JW. Be sure that's all resolved before taking it too far.
Continue to pray about the relationship and pray for all of them individually. Come back and let us know what happens.

the poor
by peacefulpete inthe story of john 12 with the woman pouring expensive oil on jesus has been discussed before in relation to the mary/martha legends, however now i just wonder how the punchline, "the poor will lalways be with you , but i will not.
" could have been written by anyone with a christian mission of helping the needy.
even if the author justified the line put in jesus' mouth, surely he recognized just how arrogant and hedonistic it made his hero sound.

Of course He did!
Sure, I know what you mean.
OK, looking at it from your perspective, I get the impression that this story was placed in the texts to give some honor to a woman who it was believed did a special kind of thing for Jesus, and either she or her direct descendent(s) were still alive in the community.
It could also be placed here to justify diverting resources from aiding the poor to bestowing missionaries (God's annointed) with honors.
Looks like there isn't any more interest in this topic.
