IF they were right
by KW13 inimagine you woke up in a paradise earth that was inhabited by jehovahs witnesses.
what would your reaction be?
personally i'd feel sick (if my perfect body would allow that lol) as eternity stuck with them, would be worse than hell.

Yates verdict
by sammielee24 inthe andrea yates verdict came down again and it was not guilty.
she will be sent to a mental facility instead of prison where in time, and after therapy, she may in all liklihood be reintegrated into society at some point.
what do you think of the verdict?

This topic is very controversial. I believe if Yates was crazy, and psychiatrists have testified she was, then she should be allowed to recover her mental faculties in a hospital. True, her children will be gone forever, but from what I've read about the case, Yates' motives at heart were for the children; to keep them from suffering and send them to a better world. What parent wouldn't do whatever it took for a better world for someone we love? Those of us on this forum as ex JW's instantly recognize when we read of JW's killing their family so the family can be resurrected in the "new world" understand that it is the religious dogmatic teachings that influenced the killer. There is also the blood issue of JW's we are familiar with. I don't believe we have ever had such hostility toward the parents who allowed their children to die due to lack of a blood transfusion in order to be in a paradise world. I have only encountered such an attitude of vengeance in "worldly people" when I was a dub.
It may behoove us to apply the same empathy to misguided souls in other cults as well.

Were your parents a different religion before JDubism?
by Crumpet ini know an awful lot here are 3rd and 4th generation - but were there any who's parents become dubs as adults?
i'd be interested to here what it was that made an adult become a jw when not brought up that way?.
i'll relate my parents experience shortly...but its something i;ve been thinking about a lot.

My mother was Methodist, 'though non-practicing. She rarely went to church and never told us her beliefs. My father was raised Catholic but hated all religion. I am the only one in my family who converted to Jehovah's Witnesses out of four siblings. I converted at 17. I had lost all illusion in Catholicism at age 12, primarily because of their belief in a fiery hell so when the Witnesses came along with their message of paradise and no hellfire I was hooked. My father ranted constantly about the Witnesses being frauds but my mother never said a word.

What book or movie most resembles the WTS in your opinion? Why?
by whyizit ini've seen where some former jws compare the wts to certain movies or books (such as the village and 1984).
i just wondered what movies or books reminded you of the wts and why?
did you draw this conclusion before or after you left the organization?

It has been 99 degrees for days here. It is 100 today with humidity soaring. Like opening the door to a blast furnace and not able to turn away. Damn, I hate it. Give me cold temperatures.

by Junction-Guy ini havent posted that much these past few months, i still read the topics daily, but i guess i dont have the desire for the daily chit chat like i used to.

i havent done any picketing in almost a year now, but i might do something special this weekend at the dayton ohio convention.
