I hope I haven't posted this twice. Inactive with doubts but still believed the Witnesses were God's people. I accidentally logged onto this site about 8 months ago, thinking it was a site for Jehovah's Witnesses. I lurked for a while then came on board. So happy to be free.

JWD Sign in. Were You a Dub When You First Came Here?
by xjw_b12 in.
seeing this is the 5th anniversary of jwd, i was curious as to how many who still post here, were dyed in the wool jws, but later sucumbed to "the truth about the truth" .
were an active/semi-active jw, and this site and others were enough to convince you that your doubts had substance.

The brainwashing around the "Schiavo" case...
by Brummie inup until this evening i had thought teresa schiavo was in an unconcious state, lying on a bed with just a machine keeping her alive.
how wrong was i?
i saw her smiling and showing awareness of her surroundings.

This is a sad subject. As I have had two members of my family in a vegetative state; one died (that was merciful), the other is still alive and that is horrible to live with for everyone, including all who had to make the decision to keep them alive or not. I have two sisters who are nursing professionals at Johns Hopkins Hospital (which incidentally was where the two vegetative victims were treated to attempt to keep them alive). We have had many discussions over our personal tragedies, not everyone seeing eye to eye. I was also engaged in a life and death battle with my one of the victim's family. I have had a living will for over 12 years - right after the first of my loved ones fell into a coma. I say "don't criticize until you've walked in my shoes". Physicians should not preserve the body without the soul.

The enigmatic mystery of the Nephilim, the Rephaim, and the Titans
by Leolaia init has been said that historical memory in oral tradition goes back only a few hundred years before it alters considerably in later retellings, and when even greater time depth is involved the mythic past fills in what has been collectively forgotten.
but myths purporting to relate events hundreds or even thousands of years in the past often contain kernals of historical memory amid the layers of tradition and archetypal folk motifs.
an excellent example from my own reading is that of the inuit eskimo in greenland who have a rich oral tradition about the norsemen who died out over 500 years ago and who originally colonized the land a millenium ago.

Wow! I am speechless at all this information. I always wanted to know about Nephilim and how they came about but the Witnesses could never give me a satisfying answer. They need to come here to learn the facts. Thank you so much for posting that information. You are very considerate to do so. Not to mention you know your facts. If I have a problem I can't solve, can I call on you? Just kidding. But thank you for real.

Did you feel guilty when you did your first post on the forum???
by Es inhello all, hope everyone is well,.
as i read many posts there seems to be many that "closet" read and it isnt till many months or even years that they actually post something.
was just wondering how long it took other people to post and did they feel guilty?.

Yes, I did feel guilty. It took a few weeks of lurking before I posted. After that, it was all relief.

and its 'goodbye from him'
by dostprefer ini've taken a leaf from holly's book to thank your for having me on the forum - thirteen interesting days but came to realise one cannot achieve much speaking from behind a screen.
people do not know who you really are, nor do you they.
i read many of holly's posts but few others.

Sure glad I didn't read any of the departing lurkers posts when I first began lurking. I might have believed them instead of the people on this board.
For all departing lurkers: You know that you have put Jehovah to the test by coming onto this board. Some of us are apostates. How do you reconcile this sort of behaviour with your Jehovah's Witnesses tenets?

New World Order - Illuminati vs. WT Society
by lucky inbefore i start, i just want to say that this is not any sort of conspiracy-type thread and i don't believe russell was a member of the illuminati.. i just finished reading dan brown's angels&demons, before which i hadn't even heard of the illuminati.
it struck me as curious that the "new world order" as described in the book had some similarities with the society's teachings regarding events in revelation (including the name itself).
in particular, i found it interesting that the illuminati were/are seeking to destroy religion and establish a worldwide government.

Going out with a bang
by LittleToe inafter much deliberation, i decided to go "out" at the end of a public talk.
it didn't go down too well, but at least i was able to give some of my reasons for leaving.. i've put some of the details on my homepage.
i'll update it more when i get the time and the strength.

That was fabulous, LittleToe.
Has anyone tried to recruit you for Earth First or another radical group? You'd be perfect for it.
