I'm not familiar with auto-tone. It may be useful in some instances but I prefer to hear some mistakes in live music than perfect music. Lets me know it's really a person playing or singing. Auto-tone seems to be more of the automated world we live in which excludes mistakes - which are human. An analogy could be used that it's like painting by numbers in the visual arts....nothing outside the lines -- no color experimentation, etc. .

Musical Dishonesty - What next?
by hillary_step inone of the saddest and imho dishonest introductions into the popular music world in recent times is the processor introduced by antares called 'auto-tune'.. this combination of hardware and software processes the music, and especially the vocals of musicians, to automatically correct the tuning for example, of voices which cannot hold a note or sing in tune and does so in virtually real-time.
it is used by a growing number of vocalists who are untrained and cannot sing in tune and allows them to parade on stage as if they were note perfect.. numerous amateur and professional performers alike have decided that autotune is one way that removes the need for talent or hard work and have no issue with dishonestly representing themselves as long as the cash flows.
it is set to become standard equipment on tour.. i cannot help but feel that we have lost something big along the way.. hs.

The TONE in which non-smokers talk about smokers, even in this thread,
Hellrider,
Same here. Though I have not smoked in a public place in many years, it is the tone of non-smokers, including my family that infuriates me. It is that superior holier-than-thou attitude I see in non-smokers. When at work I go outside to smoke a cigarette, I get these looks from passers by as if I were a pariah. I've seen kinder looks from passers by intruding on a drug addict's fix. I agree with all the reasons to ban smoking, I just wish there wasn't so much arrogance involved.

I am lucky. I type about 80 words per minute. I've worked for attorneys for the past 15 years, transcribing from dictaphones so I can get my thoughts down quickly. .

I don't know how I ended up on a page as old as January, 2001; however, what I posted about it is still true. My apologies to everyone here for bringing up an old topic in active topics. It's been a while since I've posted. Prolly forgot how.

I love the show! I am watching reruns on A&E because I don't have HBO so it is all new to me. The opening song is great. I copied it from a UK station. Hearing it played all the way through is awesome. I think it may be available on YouTube also.
