Why did you choose your USER NAME?
by In Between ini think some people actually use part of their real name.
i chose mine because i really feel 'in between', in that space where your not a jw anymore but really haven't figured out where you are in life and what path you want to take.
just thought it would be an interesting topic.

I chose my name and avatar from the oriental concept of loosing face. I lost many things I value to this cult; my sanity and almost my marriage, my relationship with most of my worldly family and all of my friends. For a long time, I felt the only honorable way out was seppuku. Shortly after I made my decision to never go back, I was attacked by a dog. Fortunately, I had a real good reconstructive surgeon. I also love the Grateful Dead. So, who else could I be but Stealyourface.

Statement made by Bush in regards to Israel
by Highlander in"we have made it very clear that israel should be allowed to defend herself," bush said in washington.
"we've asked that as she does so that she be mindful of the saniora government.
it's very important that this government in lebanon succeed and survive.".

It isn't the colorful language that struck me as crude so much as the appalling display (and audio) of piggy lips smacking. I really hope that his mother at least tried to instill common courtesy, and I feel sorry for Laura.

I have always wondered how a country's gender is determined. There is Mother Russia while Germany is the Fatherland. The US seems to be gender neutral, except when it comes to the flag, as in long may she wave.

The problem with this situation is that they will try to pass the problem of these people onto the congregations.
LongHairGal, I hope they do try to pass this along to the congregations. Many, including my relatives are under the delusion that Bethelites who 'retire' are put out to pasture in the company infirmary. Hubby talked to his mother today, asking her about Emshoff (he came from our area and she knew him and his family before he went to Bethel), and she said these ones are well taken care of by loving arrangement of the GB, that there are no worries for his retirement, he would be sent to the farm. Here is my prediction: If he relocates to the area he is originally from, and is destitute, my family will spin this as either the GB allowing the brothers the privilege of showing christian charity to a Bethelite. Or if the brothers are operating as per usual and show no charity, the gossip mill will go into double overtime speculating what sin he has committed to loose out on the pot of gold at the end of the theocratic rainbow retirement that those in the hinterlands imagine Bethelites 'earn'.
Tough object lesson for Mr. Emshoff, but this could be an eye-opener for some lucky r&f publisher as to how the cult operates. Probably not in my family though.

Where abouts on the lake are you going?
At Warsaw MO there is a dam that separates Truman Resevoir from Lake of the Ozarks that offers tours, kinda cool to see, and the tail waters from the dam spill into Ozark are full of catfish and bullheads. You can pull 'em out as fast as you can bait your hook and cast.
We always had a good time there.

Religious advocates are persistent and harassing
HARRIETTE COLE
Dear Harriette: Nearly every morning when I leave my apartment building, two or three people are standing at the corner, handing out religious literature and trying to stop me and others to talk. I think they're Jehovah's Witnesses.Don't get me wrong. I don't have anything against them. I don't even know anything about their religion. I do know I don't want to be harassed in the morning, heading out to work. Should I just ignore them? I feel bad doing that because I'm accustomed to saying something when I pass people. (I grew up in the South.) But they are persistent. Help!
— Sandra, New York
Sandra: Continue to resist the temptation to judge people based on their religion. Rather than deciding to act as if they are not there, which makes you feel bad because you were appropriately brought up to believe it is polite to acknowledge others, be gracious and welcoming and distant.
Make friendly eye contact and keep moving. Occasionally, say "Good morning." If the people are always the same individuals day after day, chances are they will appreciate the greeting and not persist. It's likely, however, that the individuals change, which is why you sometimes have people eagerly reaching out anew.
Set your focus before you leave home. Walk with intention and clarity. Be friendly and reserved. If someone tries to stop you to talk (any of these people, or others during your day), kindly say you are not interested and keep moving. I have used this approach recently with eager young people who are seeking signatures for petitions or other solicitations. They've tried to get me to stop for a moment, but I have not slowed my step. I remained friendly and focused. It works, without causing any ill will.
Dear Readers: If anyone would like to share the fundamental beliefs and activities of Jehovah's Witnesses, your comments are welcome.
