shropshire starapril 9, 2008. why would loving faith allow death?.
features news editor neil thomas examines the issues behind the tragic death of new mum emma gough.. words written by heaven knows who and attributed to moses have brought about the apparently needless death of a young shropshire mother, and blighted many other lives, more than 3,000 years later.. far-fetched, possibly.
yet, how else are we to interpret the death of emma gough?.
The whole point of adoption is to provide a mother. What has happened here is that the mother has voluntarily committed suicide.
It sounds like you are beginning to understand the point that not all rights are equal?

My personal belief is that these kids are not going with out a family
If you have children yourself Burger Time you will acknowledge the role a mother plays with newborn children. I would say the main role of the rest of the family, husband, in-laws etc is to support the mother whilst she 'mothers' the infants. You'll recall that fathering a child describes a different stage in the process :-)
just a loving mother
Just, just a loving a mother. Come on. No further comment from me neccessary. See above.
Again it's the mother's choice,
So the mother makes the perfectly natural decison to bring children onto the planet and before they can finish drawing their first breath she makes the choice to fatally remove herself from them. Doesn't sound like a normal, rational choice that someone in a fit state of mind would make. Commiting medical suicide after giving birth doesn't feel right to me somehow. So what we have here is someone in a very vulnerable position and without question in a high-control group making an irrational decision. I put it to you that she has stolen something from her children. She has taken a 'choice' from a list of options that should never have included suicide.
I see it no differantly then a mother giving a child up for adoption if she can not take care of it.
Specious comparison. In the adoption case the mother recognises her limitations and tries to do what she can to better the life prospects of her child. In this case the mother has 'thought' only of her 'religion' to the detriment of the children. She was perfectly capable of taking care of the children. That much is sure. How about comparing it to a mother who commits suicide for religious reasons straight after giving birth? As for her so-called religious beliefs - resurrections and the like are kinda hard to come by these days. Never seen one yet. Not even on Fox.
in this case the mother is choosing to not accept special treatment
Incorrect. The mother refused to accept normal treatment. The special alternative proposed by the WTS (Factor VII) is dangerous and possibly innapropriate.
Hopefully at some point the children will at least acknowledge the fact that it was her choice, while at the same time probably never understanding that choice.
My pioint is that she stole a 'choice' that was never open to her. The childs right to a mother supercedes her 'right' to commit suicide. Thats why smoking is banned in pubs. Yes, people are free to kill themselves with tobacco, but the right of pub staff to work in non-carcinogenic air is greater. With rights come repsonsibilities and in this case the repsonsibilities to the children have been superceded by a mind-control sect with death-dealing interpretations of Jewish dietary laws.
much has been commented here on how jw's rely on an ever-changing membership for keeping their 'the sky is falling, the world is ending' doctrine fresh.. recently it was posted that fully 2/3 of born-in jw's leave at some point, and i thought you might like to see how this works in practice.. so lets take sam and i and our extended families - we were both born and brought up jw's.
start with me.
mum and dad were converted in the 1950's.
Hey Slimboy - hows Afghanistan?
Great point and yes unfortunately there have been a few converts along the way.
Most notably a man recruited by my Dad in the 1960's. Surviving now in his family and still JW is one girl married to a JW with about 4 JW kids, so they are 3rd generation.
Also my brother has recruited one or two over the years - he pioneered for 10 years and has been doing his 10-15 hours a month for say another 20 years so not a lot to show, but thats typical.
The thing is with extrapolating like this is that as you get further away from the source original JW its gets more and more difficult to ascertain whether the potential recruit would have been signed up by another JW or indeed another cult in any case.

HI Burger Time
perhaps you may wish to address my specific question to you please:
What of the kids right to have a mother?

I'll disagree with the reason for doing it, but I'll fight to the death their right to refuse blood.
Ill thought out plagiarism Burger Time
What of the kids right to have a mother? What lengths would you go to ensure their rights?
ok, so i have to give a 5 minute presentation for my ccna 1 class.. the problem i'm having is that it's mostly theory, and i don't want to repeat something we covered in class already.. any suggestions?.
how about the effect on network bandwidth and QoS of the growing demand for telepresence
almost never in all the halls i've been in, it was always common knowledge.
SweetPea and I were notified in writing that we were to be DF'd, but the reason wasn't given.
I'm assuming it was for apostasy as that was the charge. I left the JC sitting there after I'd told them I thought they were a pathetic bunch of saddo's, in so many words. One of the elders asked me to wait as they hadn't finished yet. I explained to him that he obviously wasn't listening to me - I'd just told them the meeting was over and I was leaving. Which I then did. PAH.
That reminds of another downright barefaced lie the chairman of the JC told me on the phone. When I confronted him that it had come to my attention 4th hand that he had recently given a local needs talk about Internet apostasy and wouldn't it have been half decent to notify us that such a talk was being given so we would know why people were avoiding us. (This was weeks before we were DF'd, so technically people could talk to us although nobody was). So like a deer in the headlights he explained that the local needs was given to address a different situation - complete b*ll*cks - we get DF'd for apostasy and coincidentally there's a local needs about an identical situation with no other announcement made. My ass.
That was one of about 3 direct lies he told me. Truly pathetic.

Thanks for the comments everyone - particularly M.J.'s point on the dynamic of a constantly changing membership.
Perhaps the WTS have evolved to selfishly take advantage of high turnover - its Darwinian Dawkinism at its finest.
the background is that we have been df'd for apostasy and are mostly being shunned.
the grandparents are all still speaking to us, some other relatives (on my side) are shunning us.. so only recently one of these grandparents gets a visit from two elders who inform them their relationship with us is a cause for talk amongst the congregation and it is viewed that they are in danger of becoming a sharer in our wicked works.
perleeese.
Sorry to hear that NanaR.
The file I referred to half way down the email is from a recent thread - its a .pdf of the Shepherd the Flock book - the secret Elders only manual available here http://metajw.googlepages.com/ks91.pdf
"Normally, a close relative would not be disfellowshipped for associating with a disfellowshipped person unless there is spiritual association or an effort made to justify or excuse the wrongful course."
