We know of at least 6 JW's who have done themselves in.
I believe it is difficult to know whether it's more prevalent amongst JW's than the general population as it's not always recorded what religion a suicidee is.

Suicide story - How many times does this happen.
by Witness 007 ina pioneer couple were obviously poor so they shoplifted some meat from the supermarket...they were caught and charged and being a small town everyone would know about it, so they killed themselves before the elders could organise a linch mob.
sad story.. another brother just drove off a cliff....brothers would later say how he must have felt guilty over something...idiots!
not nice....he may have been mentally ill or had other issues.. does this happen alot around the world with witnesses under so much pressure to be perfect?.

Cycles of Armageddon Hysteria
by Jeremy C inwhen i departed the organization in early 2006, i was giving some serious thought as to why jehovahs witnesses were going through a period of heightened expectation of armageddon.
the district convention theme for 2006 was "deliverance at hand", and it was announced by the governing body that a stinging message would be carried out against "false religion" in the fall through a tract campaign.
certainly throughout the organizations history, convention talks and watchtower publications have always used manipulative tactics in urging a sense of urgency; even in times of relative peace.

Could you elaborate on the evidence? I remember an Awake!(?) article about 3 years ago that mentioned 120 years. That's the last I've heard anything.

My Story - Part 2
by Jeremy C inlike many jw children, i was deeply influenced and motivated by watchtower society artwork depicting the new system of things.
i was profoundly influenced by artwork (particularly in the book: you can live forever in paradise on earth) that portrayed children petting tigers, playing with lion cubs, running through grassy fields with kites, and enjoying care-free lives.
what i now realized about myself is that for a jw to desire such things; and to go through the motions - performing organizationally-programmed activity in order to receive this reward; does not necessarily require a love for god or christ that is any deeper than other religionists.

Nice one Jeremy C
Can i ask you why you studied the Great Teacher book AFTER the Bible Stories book? The pink book was released way before the BS book so in our family at least because we had already 'done' the pink book we never picked it up again after the BS book came out.

Been to London today!!!
by digderidoo ini haven't been to london in about 15 years.
i decided to take my kids for their first outing to see the sights.
i remember as a kid going with my mom and nan, we actually went inside the houses of parliament, went in the house of lords, up downing st, but now with the terrorist threats obviously all thats changed.. there is a definate difference in the security aspect of it, but not enough to take the shine off the experience.. we saw the changing of the guard at buckingham palace, the band playing were the ghurka regiment, something i have never seen before.

Strange, I swear I remember being able to see 10 Downing last time I was there....
ye - you can get to the end of the street and look through some big iron gates and maybe catch a sideways glimpse of the famous No 10 but no chance of getting up close unless you are in politics or the media or have an appointment with somebody important
The IRA were actively bombing mainland England since 1974 and all through the 80's and eatly 90's London was a prime target. So Mrs Thatcher gated the street in 1987. Didn't stop the IRA mortaring 10 Downing St in 1991 though - no injuries and they missed their target. You can see their modus operandi if you scroll down in this story you will see an image of the type of truck they used http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/northern_ireland/2297665.stm

Lol WA, it is funny though that when any Englishman tries to explain where they are from to an American a common response is, "oh your from London ". Even though i live in the Midlands (about 3 hrs away) i tend to give in and say " yes i am". You wouldn't believe how many times that is said, not just me, others will say the same. It's a bit of a running jok
Try living in LA, being Scottish and last home town was London. It gets very confusing for a lot of Americans.
Typical response being "Ah you're Scartissue, nice - is that like England, London, Britain thing? Just outside Europe ye?"

At risk of hijacking the topic but thought I would post an alternative view to complete trust in the medical profession in all eventualities.
"A definitive review and close reading of medical peer-review journals, and government health statistics shows that American medicine frequently causes more harm than good. The number of people having in-hospital, adverse drug reactions (ADR) to prescribed medicine is 2.2 million. Dr. Richard Besser, of the CDC, in 1995, said the number of unnecessary antibiotics prescribed annually for viral infections was 20 million. Dr. Besser, in 2003, now refers to tens of millions of unnecessary antibiotics. The number of unnecessary medical and surgical procedures performed annually is 7.5 million. The number of people exposed to unnecessary hospitalization annually is 8.9 million. The total number of iatrogenic deaths shown in the following table is 783,936. It is evident that the American medical system is the leading cause of death and injury in the United States. The 2001 heart disease annual death rate is 699,697; the annual cancer death rate, 553,251.
Sel-empowerment through knowledge and getting a 2nd and maybe 3rd opinion are the keys to making the right decisions, IMHO.

Good suggestion to get your future husband involved in any elder meetings - they'll be significantly less culty with a normal person there.

Sounds like fun Paul.
I lived in London for 10 years and was there over a year before I saw Buckingham Palace. It just wasn't on the party route.
On Downing St it has been gated since 1987 - http://www.streetsensation.co.uk/sights/downing_street.htm
I got access about a year ago with the Sky News tech team - alledgedly to look at some broadcast equipment. The security to get in is similar to airline standards, but the guys checking your bags wear unmarked blue boiler suits with balaclava style hoods - say no more. Once you are past security you are pretty much free to go where you please if you have a legitimate reason - it feels incredibly safe in there.
