so tonight finally had to make a decision about the dc.
we missed saturday and sunday of the one we were assigned to.
i was going to convieniently try to forget (been working most saturdays last few months) but she persisted tonight.
I also stayed in some truly terrible hotels on the lodging list.

I'm another old-timer. I went door to door asking householders to let "convention delegates" rent rooms in their homes. Yikes!

Ok so here is my problem with this. If they said, "We want you to use the rooms on the approved list because we are comped a certain number of rooms that we plan to use for visiting speakers from Bethel and the District Overseer, Circuit Overseer, etc.," then I would be fine with it. But they don't; they say, "You need to use the rooms on the approved list because we have negotiated the best rates for you and if you don't support this the poorer brothers and sisters will suffer." It's just not true. It reminds me of the reason they gave for ending the book study in private homes. Did anyone actually believe it was about gas prices after years of being told how important this meeting and venue were?
and, by the way, what we said about russell being the "faithful and wise servant"......?.
to get money (for jehovah's work, of course) we are now prepared to hint and insinuate when armageddon will happen and this time we will be 100% accurate.

regarding the tragedy in gresham this last week, i have nothing but sadness for the loss of that young life, and nothing but sympathy for the family and friends that mourn her.
i do, however, see the attempts being made to make sure everyone "knows" that the alleged killer was not a "real witness.".
i was raised as a jehovah's witness and remember the conversations that surrounded any criminal action by a member of the congregation.

That's why I started a separate topic, because I don't want to derail any of the threads that are about how sad and terrible it is. It has just made me think about many things, one of which is my response in the past to any criminal behavior by members of the congregation.
