If he did then it should be documented for legal reasons when and where this communication took place.
For instance: there would be some entry in a journal or diary which would say: "on the 10th day of March in the year ____ the lord god spoke to Brother _____
who was in the __________ room and he said _____________. And Brother ______
wrote these things down." I'm not kidding. If there were any real communication there would be such a record as this.
And I would like to meet and shake the hand of any such brother!!!

Does God speak directly to GB today?
by Bambie init's been 15 years since i was df'd, but i seem to recall as a jw that the belief was that the only human after adam that jehovah spoke directly to was jesus.. my question has to do with what the org.
teaches regarding modern day communication with jehovah.
it was my understand when i was a jw, that the gb does not say that jehovah speaks directly to them.

I had a discussion years ago with an elder about this topic.
He said life was a gift no matter what we had to endure. (We were talking about people who went through horrible things e.g. torture, serious illness, etc.) I said life was a gift but if I were going through something like that I would want death as a release. He made some trite comment about not appreciating life and so on.
I do appreciate life but I feel there is something called quality of life as you have all heard of.
Should I feel guilty? -

Do you still shudder at the sight of a Elder?
by kls ini remember so long ago i thought elders were like a god and would always make sure i smiled at them and put on my innocent act in front of them .
even being out of the cult it took me years to finally get it through my head that they are human and not a god as they themselves think.
then one day a jw elder came to my door and at that time i had a newborn baby that i had been up with all night .

Nope. Basically, I like the elders in my hall. Nobody ever made me shudder. If there is one I don't like I will ignore that person like the plague. However, because I have been through so much over the years I will not bother with any of the new ones.

WTS Bills US JWs $8.4 million for Traveling Overseers
by ezekiel3 inbeing announced at service meetings this week at all us congregations:.
a letter read during the announcements states that due to increased costs of health insurance and vehicles provided for traveling overseers (circuit and district overseers) the watchtower bible and tract society has determined the need to ask for a specific "contribution" for the "traveling overseer assistance arrangement".. .
until this date expenses of this sort were paid from the worldwide work or general fund of contributions.. .

In reply to Gumby's humorous post:
No they have no provisions for fatherless boys, etc.
If you are really needy you might get somebody's left-overs and a ride to a meeting here and there and some advice on how to apply for state aid, etc. But as far as real help goes it is almost non-existent or I should say not really oranized. After all, their real work is preaching the "good news", right? LOL
But they are known to help pioneers and other special people on the q.t. It really depends on who you are and who you know.
They don't want people to know how "selective" they are when they do a good deed. -

Did losing your religion send you into/exacerbate depression?
by SixofNine ini think most of us here agree that our past belief in the jw organization as being god's sole chosen people was delusional on our part.
for myself, when i lost that delusion (fairly abruptly too), i came out of a long period of depression immediately.
while i was incredibly angry at having been decieved, i can't say that that anger translated into any other negatives, in fact, overall, i think my general level of anger, even at elders/the gb/etc subsided, as i now understood why they do what they do even better than they themselves understand it.

I don't know that it sent me into a depression because it happened gradually.
But what it did do was make me angry. This I am trying to get over. -

If this was your last post on JWD, what would you say?

I don't know what I would say.
But it seems to me that when you are new to the board you come on like gangbusters because you want so much to vent. Everybody has their "thing" or "things" that they have to talk about.
But after a while though the excitement wears off and you simmer down and may only reply to a post here and there. -

Ha!
I love hearing this. They don't believe in higher education (in spite of their new light B.S.). They don't really believe in work either (as evidenced by the fact that they tell you to spend as little time as possible on a secular job). And to top it all off, these self-righteous characters congratulate themselves for being out in the full time service and not being on the front lines like the rest of the working stiffs of the world!
Ante up suckers! -

Dubs telling people who they should and should not marry.
by LongHairGal ini know of several experiences of couples who got married against the unwanted advice of the busybodies at the hall.
and i am not talking about a sixteen year old girl marrying a seventeen year old boy either!
these were people way over 30. .

Blondie:
This just takes the cake! They wouldn't tell the sister (a potential marriage mate) about his criminal background but you can bet everybody in their congregation and locality knows about it.
I don't know how they can live with themselves!! -

What's the most thought-provoking novel you've ever read?
by lucky ini'd have to say for me that it was ayn rand's the fountainhead.
even though i don't agree with a lot of her philosophy, it definitely made me stumble around in a thought-induced haze for a few weeks after reading it.

Wuthering Heights. I read it when I was a teenager and again as an adult.

Did they try to get you to do prison witnessing?
by LongHairGal ini remember them trying to get a bunch of sisters to go prison witnessing.
i felt very uncomfortable about the whole thing.
i voiced my concerns to an elder and was told we were only witnessing to the women and we were safe.

Terry:
I agree with you with it not being a pretty sight on a job application. (Not to digress) but it also doesn't sound very pretty to a prospective date, etc. to hear that you were in a cult either. I try to do like you do and let the person see the whole me before I unload this bunch of crapola on them - or else I will look like a nut job to them.
