Scully:
So, you are supposed to eat it all up when people treat you like crap? You should say: thank you, may I have more? Yeah, right!! This is one of the biggies there. I feel this applies mainly to women but sometimes to men. They expected you to just tolerate bad things from people there and not do anything about it. I used to wonder to myself why this was so. I reasoned this way: they are hoping to benefit somehow, materially from you being abused - whether the abuse takes the form of you being cheated, misused or whatever. Maybe they think the benefits are going "up the dub food chain" figuratively and it will somehow end up in one of their pockets or benefiting them in some way or another. This is, I think, one of the reasons they want more people there.
This is the only thing that makes sense to me.

While a JW, Did You Ever Let On That You Were "Going Apostate"?
by minimus ini never did, although i did tell my former bible student/tennis partner that the bible does not condemn celebrating birthdays or recommend celebrating anniverseries.
he told his jw brother who told his elders who told my po.
when the po asked me about the conversation, i told him he asked me some questions and i truthfully answered., i said, "nothing i said was wrong or incorrect".

Does anyone think the WTS is actually a 'front' organization?
by truth_about_the_truth ini've been thinking about this for a little while and it appears that this is a possibility.
although i cant say that there is solid evidence, it looks as if the clues are there:.
- clandestine involvement with the un as an ngo.

I read your points but what would it be a front for?

This story reminded me of when I was in high school many moons ago.
When we had our pictures taken for the yearbook my proofs were absolutely awful, except for one. Because my father was a cheapskate and didn't want to buy any of the studio's photos I was terrified they would publish one of the ugly ones so I very wisely destroyed the ugly proofs. When we had to turn the proofs in they wanted all the proofs. I told them my mother tore up the other ones. They had no choice but to publish the one good one.
When the yearbooks came out it was discovered that all the ones who didn't buy any of their photos had the WORST picture of themselves printed for posterity in the yearbook. So I was wise to do what I did.
I am sure I pissed them off good. -

Motive of some Posters
by love2Bworldly in"are you hiding what you truely are?
are you embarrased for what you have become?
sure sounds like it to me.

I feel most of these posters are in ignorance and/or in deep, deep denial. It was my observation as a dub that many of them believe different things but this anomaly falls into the grey area of "conscience matter" (as long as you don't talk about it though). So, the dub to your right may not know what the dub to your left really believes in or thinks. BUT, they have one thing in common: they feel that as long as they are serving the true god, go out in fs, pray, go to meetings, everything is "white washed". So, to them, there is no wrong. You see? It doesn't matter to them that certain things don't add up. So, they cannot and will not relate to anybody here. Don't forget there is also the fact that many people there have spent many years and have made many sacrifices so they refuse to give up. They feel they will be rewarded in the end if they just endure. For many, enduring means putting your head in the sand, doing your "thing" (fs, prayer, meetings, etc.)

Honestly, do you think that JW's really like going to 3 or 4day assemblies?
by JH in.
honestly, do you think that jw's really like going to 3 or 4 day assemblies, especially when it's out of town, far away, and you have to take a motel room, and all the gas money and food money it takes, as well as having to sit down all day listening to endless talks...and that for 3 or 4 days in a row.. and often, they have to take a day off from work, to attend the friday meeting, so no pay for that day.. i think that the jw's are glad when it's finally over, not before.. .

Nope. The worst one I can remember was the one in the 1980s in Philadelphia. What misery! Almost 100 degree heat! The small group I was with decided to come back a day early (Sunday). Let me tell you, we had had it!!! I got absolutely nothing out of that assembly except we had fun dining out. LOL
In later years Yankee Stadium proved to be no prize either. Every year it got more and more crowded. And there was no way I would sit in the sun. One thing that got me angry was when I volunteered for food service and got there early. When we finally went to go to our seats our stuff had been moved! Goddamn animals. That was it for volunteering! -

"This Generation" change -- fallout evidence?
by reagan_oconnor ini was reading the recent posts on 2034 and was wondering... .
the 1975 debacle left the fds scrambling for explanations for the mass exodus of r&f who were disillusioned by their bs.
the pat answer has always been, "those people didn't keep pace with god's chariot" and they weren't "strong in the truth" and allowed something so "minor" to "stumble" them.

A couple of years after the generation change teaching I was on an RV study with a bro. The householder (a man) asked some embarrassing questions about everything. The bro. tried to weasel around with clever answers that didn't really answer anything. The householder was a little mad. When the bro. had to use his bathroom I tried to say something comforting (I don't recall my exact words). But when we left that house I knew I couldn't give a real answer to that man or anybody else. I felt very uncomfortable about my so-called beliefs after that.

Religious persons in cults and mainstream.
by greendawn inwhat is it that makes a religious person within a serious religion eg catholic or lutheran different to a religious person in a cult such as the jws?
how is it that a religious catholic or lutheran doesn't become abnormal emotionally whereas a jw does suffer serious imbalances and consequences?
perhaps ex jws that joined a mainstream religion and experienced both worlds can better tell the difference.

Greendawn:
You have a point there. Dubs do have a lot placed on their shoulders! I used to think it was crazy that they would tell us that we would be bloodguilty if we didn't preach, etc. In other words, they are putting the responsibility on US for other people. The thing wrong with this logic is this: who is responsible for me??? -

Describe Your Personality

are you outgoing, charming, sweet, thoughtful, humorous?
all right.

I am a homebody. I am an opinionated pessimist who is sometimes pleasantly surprised. I am weary of B.S. I hate commercialism and invasions of privacy. Angry (because of mistreatment by people - guess who?). Tired of injustice everywhere and not optimistic about a solution.

The Watchtower Says 1 In 4 Persons Likely To Have A Mental Illness!
by minimus inthat's on their website....do you believe this?
-
LongHairGal
I believe it. But, depression is considered a mental illness.
The world we live in promotes mental illnesses and phobias of every sort whether or not you are genetically predisposed to them or not.
