ROAD TO NOWHERE:
I read that Breitbart article and I believe it. Just looking at their history of human rights abuses, killing off old people during famines, etc. plus the cruelty of the communist regime - it’s easy TO believe it.
this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

i'm in the uk, and most days over the last 2 weeks i've watched the 5pm uk government update on the corona virus situation which includes questions from the media.
generally speaking i've found the whole update, including the questions and answers, to be respectful, informative and non combative, with, to the best of my recollection, very little mention of politics and blame.
certainly no political point scoring.
SILENTBUDDA & DIOGENESISTER:
There is always somebody that attempts to start an anti-Trump thread and they are using the virus to further criticize him. I’m sick of it.
I totally agree with you that the man is doing the best he can with his panel of experts and advisors and I have No regard for the useless, leftist media baiting him. I believe we would already be dead in the water if it wasn’t for him - and some shithead was running the show instead!
how do you determine whether to show a jw the truth or not?.
now some of you still believe in the bible.
to you the answer would be obvious - we preach to anyone as much as possible.
ALAIN ALAM:
Not trying to get between you and Giordano:
When I was ‘studying’ with the JWs I was never told anything about the doctrine of disfellowshipping! They hid a lot of stuff from me and totally covered up things. They told me everybody was ‘equal’ there and they had ‘no’ clergy class. This is not entirely true as they have a plainclothes clergy and as many titles as the churches do. They also claim clergy/penitent privilege in courts.

JOE134CD:
Stories like yours just prove that everybody who wants to leave the JW religion can’t just open their mouth if they have family there. As you have described, it can have serious repercussions!
Somebody like me who has No relatives in the Witness religion could come out and blab (which I did not do because I didn’t want any drama at the time and just wanted Out).
There have been dozens of threads on this forum over the years with bickering over whether it is better to Fade or Disassociate. There is an attitude among some who DA that they are morally superior over somebody who Fades.. Maybe some said too much too soon and suffered because of it and they are resentful towards Faders because they imagine Faders didn’t ‘suffer’ as much..
Well, I feel it has to do with a person’s situation, emotional state and whether or not they have relatives there. If somebody can Disassociate and has no relatives..and the spiteful religion cannot get at them, then great! If they can do it loud and publicly even better. But, everybody does not have the luxury or even the mental disposition to want to do this.
let me think of a few advantages to having mexico do more manufacturing for us:.
- low cost labor .
- just drive around or jump over the wall to see family and friends.

Thanks! 😊
I wasn’t raised a JW and that’s probably why when I joined the religion in my 20s I never forgot the things I learned from parents, school and the workforce. I was raised to be independent..My father wasn’t the very nicest man and I got brutal honesty, sad to say..They were not happy when I got involved with the Witnesses...Also, being in the workforce is the school of hard knocks. Although, I’m grateful I got through it all and am Retired.
I understand many JWs lead a sheltered life in the religion and reality in the world around us is cruel. You can’t be blamed if that’s all you knew..I have some fond memories of certain JWs;..others who viewed me as an outcast because I worked..I wish them well and hope they can pay their bills. 😉..I don’t know what’s going to happen when this virus is over and how things will be..Stay well.

ALAIN ALAM:
Maybe I am unusual but I feel no need to tell Witnesses the nasty truth about their religion...I’m just glad I got out. I have no family there. Others may feel differently wanting to rescue children, etc. and I hope they have success.
Some people like the religion NOW because things are going well and they have a great social life and what they think are ‘friends’. I have no desire to drag them out with both arms. Let them stay there. I think some JWs know deep down there is something wrong but they are optimistic. I once was.
But, the religion is bad and breaks up families and doesn’t protect children; parents are lulled into stupidity and trusting strangers (I wasn’t raised a JW and would NEVER have been allowed unattended with strange adults); it ruins lives by discouraging education and careers and people end up unprepared when retirement age arrives. I’m just glad I never listened to their garbage.
Even though I will leave the activism to somebody else, if any JW I knew had doubts and wanted sincere conversation without trying to preach (I have no patience) I would be glad to talk with them.
this has been a horrible month.
my best friend’s wife just called to tell me that my friend had to be hospitalized due to severe coronavirus complications.
he has severe pneumonia, is put on a ventilator and is in a coma .
MINIMUS:
I am sorry about your friends and I hope they recover.
Interesting what you say about how they have isolated themselves over the last month except for occasional grocery shopping. I have done the same thing but for maybe the last month I have worn a mask. Before that I did not because there was conflicting information as to whether you needed one. Maybe these people got exposed a month ago OR they weren’t as isolated as they say and maybe saw a relative or two. It’s hard to say how somebody got infected!

I also wouldn’t be that thrilled about things made in Mexico unless there was oversight over quality control.
Of course, it’s best if things could be made here in the US. Their feet are held to the fire now because of this virus - and that’s the only reason there is a mad scramble to manufacture things here..But, what happens when and if this lets up?
ROAD TO NOWHERE:
I know what you mean about old washers and fridges that lasted over 30 years. Now, they are pure garbage. Same thing with stoves. In recent years I had to return a name brand electric coffee pot after three weeks of use. The heating element went. Its predecessor lasted over fifteen years. When I compared the feel of the basket, etc. the inferiority of the object was apparent.
I also urge people NOT to throw away old flatware and other stainless utensils made thirty years ago just because you’re tired of looking at them. Hold onto those!! These were made in the US - and are healthier to eat with - whereas ALL the new ones (respected brand names) are made overseas in Asia where the quality control is suspect and the metals can be adulterated!! If anyone doesn’t believe me, just go shopping for a bride-to-be and see what the stores are selling! It is an eye opener. I could find none that were made in the USA!!
for you poor saps unfortunate enough to have missed yesterday's zoom watchtower study, i thought i'd prepare a little summary for you.. in fact, to keep things really short, i'll just highlight the outstanding verbs from the article.. paragraph 2: do not view.
paragraph 4: think seriously about the warning.....partake unworthily.
paragraph 5: do not feel...does not give....do not feel....would never tell.
LISTENER:
I have more Commandments:
“Thou shall not tolerate this thing called Zoom into your home and thou shall not tolerate this religion to overstep its boundaries more than it has.”
so this elder is super brainwashed, as is his wife.
she actually made a comment that she wished antmo 3 was her dad and that he is so cool.
oh my god, i threw up in my mouth.
VIDIOT:
Ironically for them, the religion might get their wish of a smaller and ‘more manageable’ group of followers. The problem is: they will get less money as a result.
Also, if they piss off enough people with these intrusive Zoom meetings (insisting people be dressed up to sit in their own house - or a comment or remark about decor or object in someone’s home visible on the screen) Zoom is going to get ripped out..People are stressed out now and I can really see somebody flipping out or possibly punching an elder in the nose if he had the nerve to visit a publisher and knock on their door to discuss something ‘they saw’ on the televised meeting.
