LOST IN THE FOG:
I never believed that ANYBODY was appointed by ‘holy spirit’.
In the later days of my being a JW, I did see that they were trying to elevate the elders ever higher. Nauseating. Nobody there ever got any special attention from Me!
back in the first century we read that the apostles would "lay their hands" on someone and the holy spirit would be imparted to that one.
appointments of older men were made in this way - at that time.
in modern times the wts has claimed that their own elders ,min.

Yeah, Connery was great! R.I.P.
He was probably one of the best who did James Bond. You nailed the speech thing..funny but that seemed to happen over time as I don’t think he sounded like that in his earlier films.

i've been having mixed feelings about the gb whether or not their intentions are good or not.
the fact they have a protocol of moral lying through "theocratic warfare" very much turned me off from having anything to do with the org.
JW TOM:
My favorite topic! I was familiar with this ‘cement wall of reality’ years ago when I was a young working woman in the congregation and was treated badly by older people there because I refused to quit my job to ‘pioneer’.. I can never forgive or forget this.If I had caved in to this pressure, I wouldn’t have been able to Retire! The irony is these older affluent people collecting their pensions are not even around today to help anybody!..No, they are mostly all gone. The ‘needy’ Baby Boomers who bought the BS and pursued poverty are panicking now and working menial labor jobs or for brothers with a business.
Problem is: they are not the only needy. You have fired bethelites along with troubled types who were brought into the religion in the last two decades to fill the empty seats in halls. No doubt these people were led to believe they would be ‘taken care of’. Not true. The solution is to hit up responsible-looking people there for money. Now you have Covid!!
This is TOO MANY needy people with their hands out versus the few who are being targeted to contribute money.. I’m glad I’m OUT because I would never tolerate this..I explained this all recently to a JW married acquaintance who was clueless about what I went through back then!
today, marking the second anniversary of the australian national apology to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse, the prime minister of australia has announce in federal parliament the intention to place sanctions against the jehovah’s witnesses in relation to child sexual abuse.. quote from prime minister:.
the royal commission [into institutional response to child sexual abuse], the [national] apology [to victims and survivors of institutional child sexual abuse] and these yearly reports are about accountability: bringing the truth into the light ... we still have, reprehensibly, four institutions that have been named publicly and that have blatantly refused to join the redress scheme.
they are jehovah's witnesses ... it's not acceptable.
DIOGENESISTER:
I totally agree with the idea that at this point - all the religion cares about is their reputation in the eyes of whatever followers they have left.
I don’t believe there is any interest whatsoever in anybody there (of whatever age) who was wronged by anybody, any policy, etc.. Also, those who sadly fell for peer pressure to be in full time ministry and didn’t get a career..and are now panicked at retirement age with No preparation? ..Oh well!🤷🏼♀️. Older JWs who don’t like what’s happened there in the last decade or so and are wishing for the good old days.. too bad.
Father Time will take care of that and anybody else who knows too much.

TOY FISH:
Actually, more like an alternate reality in people’s minds, IMO..The problem arises when REAL reality breaks through the daydream.
And give yourself a break because you don’t ‘deserve’ any such suffering because you supposedly ‘put yourself through it’.
As someone not raised in the JW religion, I am familiar with reality even though it is hard sometimes. But, I will take the gritty reality over a fantasy that is cruel when the real world comes smashing through on a wrecking ball. Best of luck for anybody having to learn about the real world later in life. With perseverance they’ll be okay.
so here i am 44 yr old divorced and free to remarry jw sister....first time single since i was 19. but guess what no single brothers in my area.
i’ve tried those stupid jw dating sites and still no luck.
oh yes there are tons of single brothers, but guess what...they all expect a hot barbie to come running into their life.
TOES UP:
Sorry! You will be missed. I wish the Original Poster good luck and well wishes.
Everybody is at a different place mentally. Some people have put the religion behind them and don’t want to talk about it. Others never tire of talking about it. I think part of that is because they will never really see justice.
They can never get back time wasted and can’t get over bad advice which may have led to unwise life choices when they were young - such as not getting a career - and they are now in a bad situation as an older person..
It’s an ever-changing amoeba and nobody is accountable it seems..If somebody questioned an elder about this like I did years ago, they might hear something along the lines of “well, nobody forced anybody, etc.” ..This callous remark would be a kick in the guts to somebody who followed bad advice - which is why I’m GLAD I didn’t.
I wish you all the best as well.

FUNKY:
That’s funny but apropos about the flaming hailstone!..Some JWs are angry I suppose because they are tired of ‘this system of things’ and they are starting to sound vindictive like ‘fire and brimstone’.They are also angry at people who have left the religion because we won’t tolerate the garbage THEY put up with or are seemingly not affected by.
An old JW ‘friend’ seemed to slip this punishing mentality in in a recent communication..My reply ignored this as I’m not interested in any stupid back and forth so I made it a point to delete them from my contacts..If I ever do hear from this person in the future I will be polite.

LOVE NINJA:
Do you know when I left the Catholic religion to join the JWs years ago, that made ME an apostate?
This is why the word ‘apostate’ is stupid and it never had any effect on me. Other religions use this term as well. Meanwhile, some silly JWs act like it should have the effect of the Boogeyman.🙄
But, in answer to your question: this site may have started out as pro-JW many years ago but as time went on it changed.
https://youtu.be/ribgldualbm.
my husband hadn’t seen his sister for 10 years.
we were jehovah's witnesses and thanks to their disgusting, arbitrary brainwashing, 10 years of loving our family was wasted shunning them.
NUZZLENUDGE:
This video was very touching!
I wish there would be more happy stories like this where people are reunited with family members lost in the religion.
While I have no JW relatives, I had to apologize to MY Roman Catholic family. Even though I did not really practice shunning, I still avoided them. I unnecessarily missed out on many a good meal especially on Holidays when I isolated myself like some nut because I was made to feel Jehovah would only be happy if I were looking at four walls alone. The JWs all ‘disappeared’ on Holidays and I really was alone..I was also more alone since I was a single working woman who didn’t pioneer and was ostracized to some degree.
But, after a lightbulb moment, I decided to reconnect with all my relatives before it was too late. I then ‘Faded’ from this vacuum of a religion at some point. My only regret is that I did not do so sooner.
i knew it was coming as it had been advertised on tv.
i just thought to myself, i hope that my father doesnt get wind of it.
if he sees this no good will come of it, so i never mentioned a word to him.
JOE134CD:
I suppose I can’t blame you for trying to mentally shield your elderly JW father.
I saw this and other exposes on TV and even for somebody like me who knows all the dirt and got out years ago..it really was shocking to see it presented on television. For somebody in very old age whose whole life is wrapped up in the religion it would be an emotional blow.
I can well understand you hoping the religion outlasts your father so he can live out his time without the emotional turmoil a younger person goes through when they have to learn new things, get new friends, etc.
It really IS too late to start over when somebody is at a very advanced age. I would wager that some elderly in congregations probably know some of TTATT but are going along for social reasons and keeping their mouth shut.
