Yes, isn’t it something?? I know what you mean about ‘lazy’ types. I observed this. And I wasn’t swayed by any flowery talk of spirituality. I certainly wasn’t impressed by the ‘pioneer’ label.

Back in the day when I was in I was on the fringes of the congregation - knocked for having a full-time job!..I’m grateful for it now as I am Retired. I guess you could say I wasn’t in the ‘nucleus’ 🙄 in the congregation!

While I would never presume to tell somebody else they shouldn’t give, I had No intention of giving anything to anybody there who didn’t want to work. Nope..Not after I was criticized and shunned for my job and labeled as ‘not spiritual’!.. I hope these ‘spiritual’ types can support themselves NOW..If not, they better go ask their ‘spiritual’ friends for money.

Thankfully, I’m Out many years and I would never tolerate being a target. They are desperate nowadays for responsible people to hit up like ATM machines. I would end up telling somebody off…They would hate me yet again..which is alright with me.

Yes, I am glad you stress that only OTHER religions do tangible things to help the poor and needy!.. You say in all the years you were active in the JWs you never heard of anybody who got help from the religion itself.. Me neither.

I never heard of the JW religion itself giving anything and I hope all the people there are aware of this fact.. (I hope there are no JWs with delusions to the contrary.) ‘Help’ is only gotten by going around with an envelope to individuals there putting them on the spot asking them for money. Or maybe a generous elder reached into his pocket to help his favorite pioneer.

I’m Glad I’m not in the religion anymore because they would be coming up to me asking for money for people who never wanted to work! 👎 As it is, they are asking for ice cream money.

PUNK OF NICE:

I’m glad for the existence of soup kitchens! I have heard of people who can only afford to eat once a day and/or have to cut pills in half because they are running out of meds. And this is in the good ole US of A.

Do any of you ex JW`s ever feel ashamed or embarrassed to admit you were once a JW? To your now friends / associates ?

i ask this now because i have been living in this town for the past 14 years and the circle of friends i have now i have never let on i am an ex jw.. i`m talking about 30-50 people at least.. not that the subject has ever really come up , but i think they would be shocked / amazed that i was a ( i hate this word ) a "devout" jw for 32 years going around knocking on peoples doors trying to convert them to the religion .. yet every now and again i get tempted to.. how say you ?.

SMIDDY3 & OVERRATED:

I certainly won’t bring up to people I just meet that I was once active in the JW religion because I do realize it sounds corny and stupid…But, if I know them for a while and they get to know me and my history gradually, it might get worked into the conversation.

However, I make it known that I was younger and was misled and it wasn’t what I thought it was. I also stress the fact that it was toxic and I was criticized for having a full-time job and that I wouldn’t be Retired today if I had listened to them and am Glad I walked away from it.

I think a lot of Witnesses ‘dread’ the future. You seem to be hooked on ‘how we got here’. I don’t much care. I just know I’m here.

I am very grateful and take one day at a time and try to enjoy the present.

Is the jab required to attend meetings ?

Obviously the religion wants people vaccinated because they are afraid they will lose yet more people..Also, they are probably afraid the older generation of JWs there (the most faithful and contribute$ the most) will die off from Covid within a relatively short period of time!

If this were to happen the religion would be done, IMO.

They know that obviously these older people are going to pass away at some point, but they would rather it not happen all at once!

Yeah, the hypocrisy in the religion is so thick you can choke on it!

I especially despise those older JWs..Most have gone to their graves after living a cushy life and are not even around to help the broke pioneer Baby Boomers they misled who can’t even retire!!!…Imagine if I had caved in to the pressure everybody else fell for?…I’d be so screwed today it wouldn’t be funny!

There’s no accountability in that religion and you have people there suffering today because of faulty doctrines and peer pressure to be accepted. I have No regrets now that I was the ‘low hour publisher’ back then subjected to shunning and criticism. Glad I’m nowhere near it anymore!

OVERRATED:

Are the people there THAT stupid that they can’t see this??..The religion asks for educated professionals - but yet tells the average JW they shouldn’t get higher education. In other words, if YOUR education (that you paid for) can benefit the religion - that’s okay. But, if it’s for you to make your life better - that’s not okay. You should live in poverty and starve.

TITCH:

Very interesting reading about your work history! Like you, I’m retired and don’t want a job. I also like writing and could be a critic, but in this world it’s too dangerous. I could end up dead..In my fantasy though, I might see me either making or repairing jewelry or restoring things like artwork. No stress though and nobody on top of me.

JWs who are now paying the price of following the cult.

my in-laws are two such people.

people who pioneered and did not work and try to save, instead they made just enough to get by and waited for the end to come.

now my mil is in palliative care and the state is paying for her keep, my fil lives in a dilapidated home and can not keep it up.

Yes, very true. I remember them knocking Christendom all the time. Meanwhile, they offer NOTHING to anybody..but yet the churches of Christendom have programs to help the poor and needy.

I remember reading somewhere about young bethelites dismissed in recent years who were sent a bill for the last lunch they ate in the lunchroom!!..How’s that for compassion?

Any so-called ‘help’ any JW in a congregation ever got is because somebody went around with an envelope cornering people to contribute money!

I know a lot of JWs cling to fallacies and false hopes but I really hope people there are in reality about THIS!

Thanks for asking..Don’t want to give out that info because it would identify me! 😊

But, I didn’t do too badly for somebody with little ambition. I credit my non-Witness upbringing for helping me snap out of my stupidity...When I was younger in the early days of JW I was in the irresponsible phase. But, I woke up to reality in my early 30s and made sure I started seriously thinking about retirement and IRSs..(Even people gainfully employed can screw up if they aren’t wise about planning.)..I felt being in the religion puts people in a dreamlike state where they aren’t dealing with reality and the Clock on the wall is ticking away!

I have No regrets about ignoring the busybodies and hypocrites in the religion. So, what if I got shunned back then? Many of these older people aren’t even around today to help any of the broke Baby Boomers they misled!
