i’m in my mid 20’s but i’m noticing alot of sisters that are 35, 40 and just kind of lost.

single, still live at home or heavily dependent on parents because they have measly jobs.

Yes, I saw the Reddit thread. All those good-looking JW single women should look outside the religion if they want to get married or are worrying about their ‘biological clock’!

They shouldn’t be lowering themselves chasing the few Witness guys who aren’t worth it or are playing ‘games’.. Find a man more worthy outside and then come back with the new husband. After a while, all the busybodies will forget. Unfortunately, too many men are dysfunctional (in and out of the religion). But, at least a guy from outside isn’t mentally emasculated from a repressive religion!

As for me, when I came into the JW religion as a twenty-something, I didn’t see any brothers that were attractive to me. All the good men were taken..Some young guy had shown an interest but he was a born-in, younger than me. He was cute-ish but he wasn’t for me.

I wasn’t really keen on getting married anyway and didn’t want kids (otherwise I would have looked outside)..I saw desperate sisters settle for guys in the ‘Truth’ that either weren’t so ‘hot’ or damaged mentally..I couldn’t do that..As time went on I heard of pathetic older sisters chasing the few ‘available’ men in the circuit. To me, that’s degrading.

It’s true that I was one of those ‘picky’ sisters and thought very highly of myself..I had more than one person say this to me..But, that was my business and not anybody else’s.

I totally agree with you that what Jehovah’s Witnesses really have are their OWN literature studies - with maybe a look-up of a selected scripture here and there that seems to fit their agenda!!

In my opinion, these are not really true bible studies!! A true bible study would be using the Bible. Period.

With regard to the general gist of the thread, I think most of the Ten Commandments and the health regulations elsewhere in Leviticus are the rules (or general moral guides) in the Bible that I think are useful or important.. Everything else? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Isn’t JW’s teaching of “the abomination that causes desolation” wrong?

what “the abomination that causes desolation” mentioned in mathew 24:15 means could be understood only by close followers of jesus because it was part of his personal discussion with them.

by stopping to greet those whom they consider as “their enemies” jws are identifying themselves as “pagans,” according to jesus.

(mathew 5:43-48) thus they cannot correctly understand what the abomination that causes desolation” that would appear as part of signs of “last days.”.

I agree with you. I was brought up Roman Catholic and the cross was just a representation of Christ’s sacrifice. Same thing with other statues, etc..I certainly didn’t worship any particular item.

As far as I was concerned, the Witnesses just differed for the sake of being different. I let their claims of ‘idolatry’ everywhere go in one ear and out the other. Meanwhile I have seen photos of wearable items with their corporate logo (tie tacks, etc.) What do you call that??..This is the same as people in Christendom selling cross and medal necklaces!

When I first started my ‘Fade’ from the JW religion, one of the things I soon did was go into one of those Catholic stores and purchase a lovely set of rosary beads which I keep as a memento.

Yes, it was painfully obvious about the Witnesses’ terrible attitudes about women.

I really let this Old Testament stuff go in one ear and out the other.. After all, I wasn’t married to anybody there and only had to see these people in public, etc..I also was raised Catholic and had a fairly ‘normal’ life before I got involved with the JW religion. My self-esteem was already established. I knew who I was.

Nothing negative about women that was said in the hall really ‘got’ to me personally.. I also had a full-time job before I joined the religion which I held onto until Retirement. I knew enough not to allow any of these meddling fools or hypocrites interfere with my business or private life!

I guess this explains why they didn’t like me.☺️

How many of you remember the "Pioneer Shuffle " and the special "time reporting" of pioneers?

i started pioneering in my late teens an remember how slow pioneers would walk to the doors while out in circus.

also, they would not really talk to anybody at all.

they would start their time as soon as they got dressed an out the door, while us regular shucks started our time at the first door we knocked at.

Yes.. As I stated, only Retirees (because they are living off a pension) and schoolchildren (because their parents are still supporting them) should have been on the pioneer list.

Anybody else who had to work a decent job to support themselves and instead took the gamble and said ‘what the hell’ and pioneered/lived on the edge with crappy jobs for decades - is probably suffering this very day!

They fell for all the hype/Armageddon scare back then (encouraged in all likelihood by older JWs who were collecting pensions and who went to their graves after living a cushy life)…Whose fault is all this? It certainly isn’t mine. I was always the one who defiantly told younger pioneers privately they BETTER plan for their future!

I see your point. But, I did what I did because I wanted to highlight my experience as a woman in the JW religion.

I also saw too few experiences like mine as a single working woman on the forum. For the longest time I saw many experiences of men/elders who left the religion. I also was of the opinion that some of them left because their noses were out of joint over issues of perceived ‘disrespect’. It was a little more serious for me.

I also want to add that elders (maybe not necessarily anybody on here) were part of the problem I experienced in the JW religion. It was ELDERS who tried to target single women like me to do favors for some older people in the religion - maybe that older sister who regularly invited him and his wife over for dinner!

It seemed someone like me (single with no family there) was viewed as fair game in the JW religion by elders and other Users..Of course, they never got anywhere with me. 😉

Lastly, the elders were the biggest reason I was panned because of my full-time job. If I fell for their pressure to quit years ago, I would be in a predicament today. These people certainly would not be supporting me!!! This cannot be stressed enough!

DISILLUSIONED JW:

Sometimes it’s hard to tell who is a woman because so many posters chose names that don’t indicate their gender. I made sure I chose a name that shows what I am because I feel it is important.

After all, my negative experience in the Jehovah’s Witnesses was directly because I AM a woman who held down a full-time job. That was a no-no in their eyes!.. They expected me to pioneer and pursue poverty and become a doormat for the old ladies and other Users in the religion. Instead, I became an object of passive hatred and semi-shunning because I did NOT listen to them. I chose the wiser course of looking out for my own best interest.

Like you, I also walked away from this religion.

I tried pioneering for one day. It was exhausting. Of course, I looked at the older sisters telling me to try it:..married with husbands with good jobs supporting them..Me? Single and supporting myself. No comparison.

I also cleaned a house one day with one of them. Two and a half hours we spent on one house cleaning somebody’s filth.. I looked at this older sister and realized SHE did it for a little extra money. Meanwhile, a MAN was supporting her.. Absolutely NO comparison to my situation.

Again, I’m forever grateful I never lost sight of the fact that I was responsible for my OWN life, not anybody else. I didn’t let cheap talk from these women and other people with different circumstances influence me. It didn’t matter how well-meaning these older JWs were..Most of them have passed away and are not even around to help anybody!

This is the sobering and scary reality of the situation faced by JWs today who listened to this advice to ‘pioneer’ years back and made no provisions for their senior years! 👎

I don’t know your age, but be glad you quit and got a Real job!…There are ex-JWs and even PIMI JWs today who wish they made that decision.

When I was an ‘active’ Witness (with a full-time job), I was of the opinion that the Only people who could afford to pioneer were Retirees or maybe schoolchildren on summer vacation.

I felt it was the height of hypocrisy for older JWs collecting their pensions (obviously from the workforce) telling younger gullible JWs to pursue poverty and pioneer.

I knew in my heart these younger JWs would regret it later. I always said I didn’t want to be anywhere near these people when reality hit them..It HAS hit and their retirement age has arrived ..A few younger people back then might have pioneered for a while and then stopped for various reasons most of which were financial. They needed to get regular work. These lucky few could probably retire.

I am so Thankful I ignored all the labeling I got back then. I was considered ‘not spiritual’ because I wouldn’t pioneer/do favors for all the Users.. I perceived real anger towards me!!..As a ‘punishment’ I was hardly invited anywhere, but that’s okay. As an older person it’s absurd to look back at all this stupidity, but I’m very glad today I followed my gut. 👍🏻

I was reading posts on Reddit about it.

A lot of ‘Faders’ and PIMOs aren’t happy about it..In fact, some PIMIs aren’t going to be happy either. A lot of people just don’t want to get dressed up and drag themselves to a place where I don’t think too many liked being in the first place. How many people gained weight and maybe don’t fit into suits or ‘dressy’ type outfits? How many like the idea of shelling out more money for gas nowadays to go to a Kingdom Hall that is further away since they sold off the nearest one?

In my opinion, the religion ‘needs’ to do this because they have to see with their own eyes a headcount of just HOW many Witnesses will return!!..Two years is a long time and Faders and fence-sitters probably would say ‘screw it’ and couldn’t stomach it.

I think the only people glad the halls will be open are the elderly (because meetings are their social life). The other ones I bet would be Users and ‘needy’/types who never wanted to work. (It helps to be in person to corner people for money and favors!)..The halls being closed two years must have cramped their style and forced them to get creative!

Even though I’m Glad I’m no longer in this religion, it will be interesting to hear how this all goes!
