Again, this article looks to be about getting help for the many needy and impoverished Witnesses in the congregations. As others have said: “It’s all coming home to roost”.

These people listened to bad advice years ago when young to not get decent jobs or careers - but to be in the ministry instead. Many only had a nodding acquaintance with the workforce (part time jobs) because they were told ‘Armageddon’ would be here.. I had this same thing said to me too but thankfully I paid no attention.

Now all these people are at retirement age with no preparation and they are frantic and worried. The religion has no social programs. So, they are told to go seek help from ‘Satan’s system of things’.

How did it come to this?

i am now in my early 60’s.

i was baptized in 1980. i served as a ministerial servant and an elder.

i gave my all for many years but about eight years ago i started to question many things.

NEW DAY:

I don’t know about you, but I was not raised in the Witness religion. I came in as a young working adult.

I never saw myself as a ‘non entity’. I probably was viewed as one though back in the day because I refused to quit a full-time job to take up housecleaning/pioneering like other single women there.

No, I kept my self-esteem (that everybody should have) and never allowed anybody’s opinions to dictate how I ‘should’ view myself. I am sure this bothered some people there but they certainly weren’t looking out for my well-being and I never lost sight of this!

let me explain if i can ,i didn`t become a jw until my very late teens 19 and more likely close to 20. .

From your posts, it seems you got through your JW experience relatively unscathed and are a happy and content person.. You also live down-under and were able to have job/career without trouble and interference from the religion.

Here in the USA things are different. But, I am relatively happy/content even though it has been a rocky road. I was raised Catholic and had a ‘normal’ childhood, friends, etc. so, thank God I have happy memories and it was easier to ‘Fade’ from the Witnesses when the time was right. Not bragging.. but I am exceedingly thankful I never caved in to pressure from the JWs to quit my job and pioneer and am now retired.

PUNKOFNICE:

I totally agree that certain things have to be done in a timely fashion (like when a person is young enough) such as college education - in order for it to make a difference in somebody’s financial situation. Of course, an older person can still go to college for personal enrichment - but that’s not what we’re talking about here. You can also still show an interest in those other things you mentioned!

It is also an inconvenient truth that most successful people are from middle to upper class. But, that shouldn’t ever stop a talented younger person from a less affluent situation from trying. Enjoy your upcoming retirement. 👍🏻

This is an excellent thread and I agree with the OP and MAGNUM.

I am Out because of the 1995 Generation Teaching. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I also agree that the religion seemed better and more hopeful in the 1980s. But, that’s all over and I am ‘Faded’ almost 23 years. Even though I’m out I’m still shocked at what the religion has become. I also agree that honest people have to see something is wrong there.

I know a few JWs there. They are very medicated and not the types to question anything. In truth, they stayed too long. While we may hear about some older people who leave, I just don’t see them going anywhere.

I understand what you mean about how if you open your mouth and tell what you feel, you will lose whatever social network you have in the JWs. Luckily for me, I didn’t have much of a ‘social network’ because I was marginalized because I had a full-time job. I wasn’t part of the ‘In’ crowd. But, it made it much easier to do a ‘Fade’.. It’s great to be Out and away from the mess and the Users and cranky people there.

Yes.. This is a culmination of decades of Witnesses who hardly ever worked - instead preferring the ministry. They are now reaching retirement age. Add to that people kicked out of bethels and sitting in congregations expecting handouts.. Oh, let’s not forget the other assorted JWs who were afraid of the workforce and ‘couldn’t hack it’ plus those with ‘serious issues’, etc., etc.

What we have here are too many needy people all in one place with too few responsible working people there - and a religion with no social programs.

This isn’t like the old days where people chipped in and bought a bag of groceries for somebody until they got back on their feet. These people are never getting back on their feet and expect handouts for the rest of their lives.

This is an appalling situation there and I’m Glad I got out ages ago.

The sad part about this is that my few JW friends are in a news blackout and probably don’t even know about this along with other things!

I believe this ‘helping others to endure difficult times’ (persecution, etc.) is really all about trying to get the rank & file JWs to ‘help’ people out there who are suffering financially because they were talked into not getting decent jobs/careers.. This is the main reason, in my opinion.

By helping out I mean being targeted to give money and whatever other material aid you can think of. They don’t care if you got knocked for working.

I said years ago that something like this was bound to happen with all these pioneers and others who never wanted to work!! I’m just so glad that I’m not around any of them now. I’m certainly not interested in being the answer to anybody’s prayer because they listened to faulty teachings and bad advice years ago!

All this talk about dealing with ‘life’s uncertainty’ and helping others through ‘difficult times’ is very timely.

This goes along with a recent post I saw on Reddit having to do with needy JWs being urged to seek help from ‘worldly’ charities, etc.

Let us not forget the reason for all this neediness is that there are too many Witnesses barely in the workforce and others with no retirement preparation whatsoever. Whose fault is this?? When these JWs were young they were strongly urged that they should be in the full-time ministry - and that Armageddon was sure to come and they wouldn’t need to plan for retirement. Any JW who refused (like I did) and had a decent job or career was shunned or marginalized.

Now, the religion is giving the impression that other people should be helping. They must imagine that responsible people in congregations are going to tolerate being targeted to give money to people who chose not to work.. This is outrageous. Again, I’m glad I’m not there anymore!!!

DIOGENESISTER:

Secret sin? What about the four US Witness missionaries murdered in Mexico by cartel members in the 1980s? I read how they died..positively gruesome and cruel. I remember when this happened saying to an elder that ‘this is not supposed to happen’. Well, it did.

Did these JWs have a secret sin too? Was that why the angels weren’t protecting them? I’m so Glad I’m Out of this religion and not endangering my life. But, I hate any JWs who make stupid remarks when they hear about a tragedy because they want to justify in their minds that there is a ‘reason’ why there was no protection.

Does Jehovah have a visible organization?

why do jehovah’s witnesses say they are god’s organization so matter of factly as though such an audacious claim is an undisputable fact?

here is how one person sees this claim.. "the entire jehovah’s witness religion is founded on unsubstantiated hubristic claims which are continually repeated until they are assumed by adherents to be a proven fact.. never is this more evident than when the beliefs of a jehovah’s witness are successfully challenged.

the more compelling the evidence against them, the more they resort to repeating their convictions with a sense of insistence, as if they are chanting a mantra.. confirmation bias is prevalent in all religious ideologies, but particularly with jehovah’s witnesses.

Thanks. I read your bio and am also ‘Out’ of this religious organization because of the 1995 Generation teaching.

It wasn’t even because of job criticism that I left. The 1995 thing is what really did it. The fact that everything is coming ‘home to roost there’ - is why I’m super Glad I’m Out. I realized this years after I left.

As you said, because I followed my gut and held onto that job ‘I wouldn’t be invited anywhere’. That’s exactly what happened and I was on the fringes until I ‘Faded’. I accepted that they didn’t like me. (I worked and had a pre-JW life).

They don’t get to come up to me now and ask for money!.. Sorry, but It doesn’t work that way.. If they were anybody else I would wish them luck.. But they don’t deserve anything.
