This probably contributes to the mentality among some Witnesses that other people are going to look after somebody’s elderly parents. They heard it somewhere. Now, every Tom, Dick & Harry thinks this.
When I was in, I wasn’t the type to do favors because of all the criticism I got. But, I would have laughed in somebody’s face if they suggested this to me! 👎

When I was in the JW religion years ago, I saw the mistaken attitude of entitlement that some nervy Witnesses had that somebody else should be paying for their expenses for whatever!
This is not the reason I left the religion (1995 was). But I will say for the umpteenth time that I am glad to not be there now.
I’m the one who got knocked for working and there would be a verbal confrontation if somebody had the balls to come up to me asking for money.. This has turned into a panhandling religion and I have no respect..
Another erroneous belief: ..some adult JWs are expecting other Witnesses to look after their elderly parents there.
Unless they were abandoned as a baby and have no contact, this is totally wrong!!!! (And I am Not referring to knocking on somebody’s door once in a while to say hello.) I am referring to Witnesses actually believing that other people in the congregation are responsible for somebody else’s blood relatives. They are not.
If you cannot stand your parents because you were mistreated, etc. then call different agencies, organizations, etc. But, people are mistaken in their belief that it’s some congregation’s responsibility. There are too many fallacies in this religion.👎

It was my observation that certain Witnesses thought they were there to be a bother to other people. The religion gives them the excuse with the scripture about ‘putting up with one another’ and they use this as a free pass.. Also, other scriptures give some JWs the idea they can be forgiven for anything! Add all the other crap and judgmentalism and what you have is a simmering pot that maybe looks okay to the untrained eye.
So, what you have now is a collection of people in a fear-based religion. A good portion are irresponsible human beings. Others are a little off in the head. Maybe there are a few responsible citizen types here and there (and this number is dwindling).
I felt one thing was for damn sure: If any ‘great tribulation’ arrived - I would be out of luck!.. I was the person shunned because of my job. And some delusional/jealous idiots imagined I ‘owed’ somebody something! The irony being I would have been the last to ever be helped.. Plus I wouldn’t be retired if I had listened to anything there.
Thankfully, I won’t have to deal with them because I ‘Faded’ from the JW religion decades ago.

Good post. I’ve been out of the JW religion many years and I think you are more recently out.
I believe that the over two-year coronavirus absence must have changed a lot of Witnesses..as they now have to learn all over again how to act around other JWs that they dislike.
As far as you waiting years for invitations to materialize from the phonies there, I had long ago given up on that - and that’s when I was a ‘believer’. These invitations or friendliness were never going to be extended to me. Maybe to some pioneer(s), but not a working woman.
I remember having a conversation with a sister (also a working woman) who said: ‘if JWs aren’t friendly now when it’s favorable season, what makes you think they would be friendly or helpful during the GT?’ I was inclined to believe this as well.
It’s truly hopeless in that religion and I’m sorry for people still there imagining they are in a ‘brotherhood’.. I knew better.

This is a human tragedy on a massive scale.
When you think about it: nobody in their right mind pursues poverty deliberately. It’s bad enough if it happens to somebody because of circumstances, etc.! This is why I couldn’t bring myself to quit a decent job and do cleaning! I said to myself I’m a citizen who speaks English who has an education. Why on earth would I do something so incredibly foolish. ALL the older generation there were all collecting their pensions!!! They worked! So why wouldn’t I?
Please believe I would never gloat about this. But, I was truly treated like an outcast. I believe there were Witnesses there who actually hated me.. Well, I hope they can pay their bills now.
I’m really out because of the 1995 Generation thing.. But, If I were there now I’d be the victim of the double whammy: being treated like shit because I worked - only to have people coming up to me now asking for money!
The irony is those who hated me for working then would hate me now because I wouldn’t give out handouts. I can see them ganging up on somebody. It’s scary. Who’d want to be around this desperation??

Yes, the world is in awful shape. Those of us (whether JWs or not) who did the right thing and worked and saved still have to watch our pennies!
So, what hope is there for people who hardly worked, didn’t prepare for the future and instead preached for a religion?? WHOSE fault is this?? I’m glad that you admit indirectly that it is the religion’s fault - as it is they who gave the ‘direction’ you refer to.
But, it’s not just a case of people not wanting to work. No, it’s the hateful attitudes and class distinctions in the congregations that cannot be forgiven. I’m just grateful I stuck to my guns and kept my job till the end. As for those you mention who give charity…that’s their business.
I’m sure the congregations are struggling as there are TOO MANY needy Witnesses in one place. This is the end result of pursuing poverty for DECADES when they should have been holding down decent jobs instead.

Too many JWs like you (I suspect you are active in the religion) automatically assume these pioneers will be an expected ‘burden’ on other remaining people there.. I got news for you that I would never consider it MY burden.
My answer would be NO to anybody coming up to me asking for money for people who wouldn’t be caught dead in a full-time job like I had. I have No pity for these JWs. I got criticized and shunned 👎.. I am incensed after reading your quote of that letter.
So, they were trying to guilt local JWs into furnishing free living arrangements for traveling couples from the branch?.. They even had the balls to suggest people move out of their homes and go stay with somebody else while these couples inhabit their homes!!!!! 😳
Not only have they no concept of what it’s like to make a living - they have no regard for those who did make a living (as I well know). They imagine hard-working people should risk their security and possessions for ingrates who haven’t got a clue!!!
This is why I’m glad I’m long Out of the Witness religion.. I would have had to get up out of my seat and leave after I heard this nervy garbage!
yesterday, my dad told me an older sister passed away.
she wasn't too old (in her 60s), but i knew her 30 years ago and haven't seen her in 15 years; the main reason being that i faded 10 years ago.. yesterday, i seriously considered attending the funeral and catch-up with old jws i used to know.
after thinking it over, i decided against it.
Yes, many older JWs are passing away.
Several years back I set foot in a hall to hear a funeral talk about an older deceased JW. I went with somebody who is in.. I really went because I was hoping to see and talk to the deceased’s POMO children. They ended up not coming maybe because they didn’t need the religion’s notorious infomercial and possibly didn’t want to deal with phoney people afterwards.
While I was there I noticed the screens up front with the words to the awful songs. The newer hall with what looked like reduced seating capacity had much fewer than half in attendance. I might have exchanged a smile or two with a few I remembered. I didn’t expect much and I knew certainly that I was Out.. I couldn’t wait to leave.
