  Of course all these increasing appeal$ are offensive and JWs are gullible.

  What’s never mentioned is how certain people in congregations (who look ‘affluent’ or ‘responsible’), on top of everything else plus the cost of living, will be privately approached by some elder with an envelope asking for money for some ‘needy’ person(s) in the congregation... In all likelihood, the ‘needy’ person(s) hardly worked and never prepared for the future or emergencies - instead they spent decades in the ministry instead of decent jobs and trusted the religion’s promises that ‘Armageddon’ would come to save them.. Meanwhile, I was criticized for working full-time!

  Even though I’m Out because of the ‘1995 Generation’ teaching, I’m super glad I’m not there now because there are TOO many Witnesses looking for handouts.👎 I would hit the ceiling.. I mentioned this in conversation to JWs who came to my door.

  I know it’s hard to understand and must seem very pathetic to somebody who was never in the JW religion.

  Men and women in the Witness religion are trained to think they are ‘privileged/blessed’ to do mundane things like this or clean the toilets. I don’t know how else to describe it to somebody who was never in.

  I was never interested in ‘privileges’ or even titles - like ‘pioneer’. And Good thing I wasn’t. I wouldn’t have retired if I quit my job for full-time ministry like they tried to pressure me to do!! …When I read the news released on October 7th that they were doing away with hourly time being reported, I was very glad I never did this.. I would have felt positively ill if I had.

  I remember that scary description of Armageddon…There was a sister there who told me she would rather live out her life and die before Armageddon because she did not want to go through it!

  Well, I don’t blame her and I feel the same way.. Anybody who wants to experience the end of the world scenario as described in the Bible is just plain nuts.. Some JWs might say they want the ‘paradise’ so badly they would - but I don’t think they know what they’re asking for.

  It might be that in the Western world (especially the USA) that Christian religions are decreasing. Not so sure about dying out.

  But, hopefully, with the public becoming aware of the harmfulness of high-control/cult-like religions, we will see a decrease in them. They deserve to join the other defunct religions in the USA.

  Unfortunately, though, in other parts of the world, certain oppressive non-Christian religions are increasing - especially in countries that are so-called theocracies. People in these places have no choice.

  Pornography in the Marriage

  the magazine that they are studying in the congregation this month has an article at the back about how pornography in a marriage could damage the relationship.. there's one piece of advice that sounds rather scary, the wt suggests that the couple should "consider asking an elder with whom you are both comfortable to sit in and guide your discussions for a time.".

  how many of you would want an elder present in your home while you and your partner discussed your personal sexual cravings and the type of porn videos being watched?.

  I’m speechless to actually read that it is ‘suggested’ that a couple discuss with an elder about their sexual matters.😳 Is it any wonder that I have such contempt for them?

  I know Jehovah’s Witnesses, in general, are gullible people. But, anybody who listens to this has really checked their brains at the door.. And now, with very young elders being appointed, can you see the ridiculousness of this?

  So very sad…It is clearly not safe in this day and age to be at a public event - anywhere.

  The article I read said the perpetrator was a JW.. Whatever he was doesn’t take away from the fact that vulnerable innocent people were injured or killed.. Of course, any of us could be unsafe when we step out of our home.. But, anybody still left in the JW religion should realize they are very vulnerable as potential targets when they go to a large assembly and (maybe) even their local hall.

  my grandmother, an immigrant from austria, was.

  two of my aunts, their husbands, both elders, various cousins and two of my sisters are witnesses.

  so is my grand uncle.

  What an awful story! This is the end result of being lonely and/or putting trust in strangers that are not looking out for your interest!

  Makes me Glad that I’m out a long time. I would NEVER want any of these people around me - I would be afraid of their predatory nature.👎 And especially now with the desperation in congregations with all the ‘needy’ JWs who never prepared for their senior years.

  So, you have seen from the responses on here that it is common. Behavior towards elderly JWs can range from just plain neglect and ignoring them to out and out exploitation and fraud. Some ‘brotherhood’!

  You probably know that the Witness religion has NO social programs whatsoever to help anybody. So, there is no ‘department’ for caring for the elderly, etc. What ends up happening is that the elders privately ‘corner’ individual people with an envelope asking for money!.. Doesn’t matter to them that said person was criticized for having a full-time job!.. I could go on…

  What EXBETHELITENOWPIMA said above is a common fallacy and delusional thinking.

  The JW religion is full of fallacies and urban legends. NO JW has any business believing that somebody else in the congregation is responsible for caring for their elderly parent(s).. (Looking in on somebody to say ‘hello’ is one thing: ‘caring’ for them is something else!)… Even if it is an unpleasant task, everybody has the responsibility to at least see their OWN parent(s) situated. It does not become some strangers’ (who have their own obligations) responsibility.

  Yes, it’s a chaotic mess.

  she was writing about violence and abortion and gave quite a few stats.

  I remember that particular poster’s name from years ago.

  You mention you befriended her on FB and then had issues over ‘TDS’ and the friendship with her was over. I had the same thing happen to me with a couple of people I had to unfriend. It’s a pity really.
