You are so correct in your reply to Rattigan. The Bible writers have also been long dead but what they wrote has touched countless people.

This is probably why the JW religion trashed old books, etc. because they don’t want anybody beating any of those dead horses! Especially when they caused so much damage.

Any JWs who acted on this teaching back in 1969 are senior citizens suffering this very day! ..It certainly doesn’t mean anything now that they got invited to special dinners and gatherings back then!!! ..What is particularly hurtful now is that the hourly time reporting fhey all knocked themselves out for has been discarded!!! I would feel positively ILL…

I'm grateful I wasn’t in the religion yet and wasn’t exposed to this harmful advice. And it is well worth it now that I got criticized because I held onto the job they all hated me for!

Broadcasts, Are they just a distraction?

the recent broad casts about not handing in time sheets, and then about beards, especially the beards, it seems so trivial, are those talks only released in order to distract the followers from the recent court case they lost on spain, from the csa cases, the kh sales and so on?.

i reckon they're taking their lead from the media, distract and divide tactics..

Faithful and gullible JWs screwed up their lives when they were young. No college or careers for them!! They were told ‘Armageddon was coming and they won’t need to worry about retirement’. Meanwhile all the older people in the congregation were collecting their pensions. I witnessed all this.

Those young pioneers wouldn’t be caught dead in a full time job like I had… When I heard about the changed teaching at the recent annual meeting that No more time needs to be reported - I was Glad that I never listened to any of the foolish talk all those years ago.

VANDERHOVEN & WATCHER:

One of the things that comes to mind was when I was in the JWs and how it seemed they played a game of fantasy. It was really a trick on the mind. They play acted as though they were a little village in ancient Israel.

It makes me wonder if this messed with some people’s heads and maybe could play a part in why many JWs don’t want to deal with reality(?)

The fact is that we all live in the modern world. Most of us, or at least I did, had to make a living in this world. The real one, I might add. Anybody who wanted to live out a fantasy that the JW religion was the ‘world’ they wanted to live in - that was their problem. Hope they can pay their bills.. Sometimes reality isn’t always pleasant but I don’t want anybody’s world of make-believe!

even elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.

they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.

i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

I know these changes making the JW religion into ‘JWLITE’ must be a disappointment to some hardliners there.. There must be a lot of conflicting and bad emotions for some - maybe because they sacrificed so much for ‘commands of men ‘.

But, as many have speculated, the religion probably wants to hold onto whatever people it has left. Only time will tell if these tactics work.

Yes, first the shocking news at their annual meeting of No more time reporting. Now, beards are allowed. Of course, this is absurd because beards should never have Not been allowed. This is what happens when ‘commands of men’ are taught.

Will this news stop people from leaving???

Makes everybody wonder what more radical changes in the JW religion are coming soon down the road.

Retirement

the difference is now blatantly obvious, older ones who went against direction of the gb and planned for retirement have relatively more comfortable lives.. those who trusted and followed gb direction never got further education or training, pioneered or spent most of their lives knocking on doors for free, making just enough to get by in a part time job.. if you followed direction from the gb then you thought the end was just around the corner so no need to plan for retirement.. now these ones have indeed got old which they were given the impression they never would.

they are a burden on others.

the state has to pay for them in their old age.

I’m sorry I didn’t do even better for myself! So in that regard, I was also a victim of stupid talk that Armageddon was coming... I should have literally knocked myself out to save MORE.

But, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I will say again that I will Not tolerate being targeted to give money to Witnesses who didn’t work/plan for the future.. What others tolerate is their business.

I couldn’t even be around a group of JWs now because they’d be asking for money. They would be trying to guilt trip with sob stories and I would end up having to tell somebody off. Not pleasant.

Nah, this is No good that anybody even believes the fallout from years of faulty teachings of No college/No careers falls on the few responsible rank & file left in the religion - which is why I’m Glad I’m not there being subjected to panhandling. This is a fallacy that needs to stop and no ex-JWs especially should be believing this!

Nope. I’m Glad I’m not in the religion anymore because it would certainly NOT be me who gives these people anything. I’m the one who got criticized/shunned for working!! I had to listen to remarks saying I was ‘unspiritual’. I’d be starving if I listened to the religion.

Brothers with businesses are going to have to help these people out in some way.

There are TOO many needy Witnesses who never worked. It’s absurd to imagine that the few responsible people left in the religion are going to give them handouts for the rest of their lives. This is unsustainable and if this is the ‘new normal’ in the JW religion I’m super Glad I’m long out of there!!!
