New lawsuit against the Watchtower in Ontario, Canada

the new class action lawsuit against the watchtower for having covered up child sexual abuse will begin in court on may 13-14-15, 2024 in the province of ontario, canada.

it is not the same as in the province of quebec because the laws aren't the same.

I am curious as I don’t really know you personally - just the posts you have made on here.

This OP seems to be about CSA lawsuits. Would the case you hinted at be referring to that topic? Or, would it have to do with something else - maybe being a pioneer (who technically worked for the religion) your whole life and reached retirement age totally unprepared?.. If that is the case I suppose there would be many thousands of rather upset Witnesses both current and former who fall into this category!

Visiting old churches

when i was a jw i did and still enjoy visiting old churches and cathedrals because of the history and amazing architecture of these wonderful old buildings.

a sister in my old congregation regaled us with a story of a visit to the tower of london and walking up this crowded narrow staircase only to discover it led to an old chapel.

the way she described her horror at almost entering you would have thought they were doing human sacrifices.

I certainly did and those centuries old churches/cathedrals in Europe are so wonderful.

I remember the opulence in Rome with St. Peter’s and also the magnificent gloom of Winchester Cathedral in England. Very old, almost a thousand years.. I think I was more impressed with this place and remember the tour guide pointing out large urns or containers of relics on an elevated area. I remember the name King Canute(?) being mentioned as one of the persons whose relics were there.

In those early days of being a JW, I remembered the scripture about Babylon the Great and the “dwelling place of every unclean and hated bird”. I wondered to myself if it pertained to this place because it had the right atmosphere. But, I loved it and it’s great that they take pains to preserve this part of their culture and early history from the days of William the Conqueror!

if a change in the blood policy happens, who will be more upset, jws or former jws?

i suspect the latter.

when the beard thing went down, jw's seem to immediately embrace it, whereas many former jw's have been brooding about it.. did it take away a pet gripe we had?.

My interest in the Witnesses is solely as a spectator.

What in the world would how JWs are supposedly ‘judged’ now mean anything to me?? You gotta be kidding.. This sounds like something a still-in person would say.

I am not living as a ‘refugee’ as you so comically suggest. 🤣🤣🤣 A refugee implies somebody who supposedly has ‘no home’. I never even felt ‘at home’ in that religion.. My home is very firmly placed in the real world - which was where I came from before I made the blunder of setting foot inside of JWs.

Yes, it would be former Witnesses who are upset or shocked over changes in the religion.

There is a very good reason:..most former Witnesses have regained critical thinking and can see the hypocrisy and injustice…Whereas, unfortunately, too many current JWs are in the deep sleep of denial and don’t give these changes a second thought.

When I heard the change at their annual meeting that R&F no longer needed to count time or submit a slip - I, being long-Out, was shocked. I was judged over this issue because I worked… But, I am ever so Happy that I never listened to all those Witness critics years ago!

after my divorce four years and still attending the meetings i joined jwmatch.com as a non-paying member, eventually.

after i stopped going to meetings i wrote on my profile that i was inactive and after four years i have 63 "fans"...... sisters.

interested in me, from all over the world, as young as 29 and very pretty.. it looks like the sisters are so desperate for a mate that they would be interested in almost a 58 year old man.. very sad that many will stay single and will never have a chance to find love.. anyone interested in meeting them?

I am sorry about any JW woman who didn’t get married because she wouldn’t look outside the religion for a man. It’s too bad they are broke as you say…no doubt because they wouldn’t be caught dead in a full-time job like I had.

I was not raised a JW but came in as a young working woman. My impression of Witness men was that all the ‘good’ ones were taken. Most single men there seemed ‘odd’ or were momma’s boys. A few might have shown interest but they weren’t for me…. (Perhaps another reason I was disliked in the gossip mill.)…

Even in the ‘world’ nowadays it is hard for women to find a man they want.

I feel sorry for the African American sister you mentioned who you say got ‘taken by a Nigerian’ on a dating site.

Strangely,.. I once came across a Facebook profile of a young African American woman who placed a banner on her profile that said: “NO AFRICANS I’M NOT INTERESTED”.

To be honest, I would be scared to go on dating sites... The idea of having to peel the layers of mystery of some stranger is not appealing.. As a poster above humorously said: “On the internet anyone can be a woman (or man).” …But, I would never judge other people who feel they want to take a chance to do this… Good luck.

Prediction: no more changes for a long while

i’ve noticed a pattern where things don’t go the way i expect them to go and/or whenever i realise there is a trend and, i mentally adjust for the idea that the trend will continue, the trend stops in its tracks.

so on that basis, and given many people, including myself, and active jws, have been asking ‘what changes will the governing body make next?’ perhaps the (disappointing) answer is: ‘nothing much for a while to come’.

maybe they’ve made the changes they want for now, and will wait a while and see how it’s received.

Yes, it’s true that many Witnesses wake-up because of changes - but not all will leave. And, It is as you said that they are old and set in their ways and they don’t want to lose family and friends.. It makes you wonder just how many are held ‘captive’ because of this.

Strangely, I didn’t leave because of ‘counting time’. It was the 1995 Generation teaching that did it!

I was a low-hour publisher because I worked and I accepted that this was how it had to be for me and I didn’t much care what others thought since they weren’t supporting me.. I ignored the criticism.. I’m Glad the 1995 thing wisely caused you to do something about your work situation.. How many other JWs were in sleep mode and just did nothing???

That was practically thirty years ago and certainly would have been enough time for a determined individual to do something at least!

Disaster preparedness

also, we have re- peatedly seen good results when brothers and sisters are prepared with go bags and are ready to obey direction when they face various kinds of disasters.

please be sure you have a go bag, and review its contents at least once a year.

You are probably wise not to ask elders for practical advice, especially now.. I hear they are appointing very young guys in their twenties! 🤣

At least back when I was in the Witness religion the elders were full grown adult men - middle age or older.. Even if one wasn’t exactly a genius, he at least had practical knowledge of living in the world.. What does a twenty something know?

I agree with a lot of the advice on here. I was watching a YouTube prepper (not a ridiculous one) but a sensible middle aged man with good advice. One thing he said is that in some cases you should shelter in place. He said never take to the road unless you absolutely know that where you are going is better than where you are. Otherwise, you would just be a glorified refugee.

vanessa, from ohio, appeared on an episode of the we're all insane podcast.

the 46-year-old explained she is 'one of seven kids born to a brother and sister'.

The funny story you tell is a nightmare scenario that anybody who opened up their homes for the book study would dread.

But, you don’t need a whole family of Witnesses to cause dread. I have heard of people who had one odd/pushy sister make them regret ever being hospitable.. I have heard of those words being used: “oh, do you want this”, referring to some object in the host’s home that the nervy JW visitor wanted.

Some JWs are truly delusional in thinking people are just going to give them things because of those stupid urban legends no doubt.. (And I imagine there may be more of this happening nowadays there with all the ‘needy’ Witnesses who never worked!)

This nonsense is why only a few select JWs (nice working types) were ever welcome in my home.. And this was way back when I was ‘in’ and a ‘believer’.

So, I guess you’ve seen all the recent changes in the JW religion.

What did you think about the one about the R&F no longer needing to count time or submit a slip? Naturally, this was never a biblical teaching. However, I was judged over this hourly time counting because I worked.. It made me positively ill to see this change and I was so right that I never listened to the religion!

I seem to remember reading that the 1995 Generation change got you to realize you needed a decent job for retirement benefits.

The point is that many thousands of Witnesses everywhere have reached retirement age totally unprepared because they spent time in the ministry.. Even those who didn’t get pioneer hours still wasted time that could have been spent in a decent job that would provide for them.. Instead, they were led to believe Armageddon would have come to ‘save’ them.

Meanwhile, the religion just did away with this teaching with the stroke of a pen!
