when did the jws make the rule that you couldn’t clink glasses together and raise glasses of wine?.

and why the change to being a conscience matter now?.

I just noticed this. So, another rule the Witnesses decided to ‘relax’??🙄 I’m too lazy to look up the history of this, but you can rest assured it was imposed because of somebody’s fanatical opinion. Probably having to do with the god of good luck, etc.

To me, when the religion announces something as a ‘conscience matter’, they are really throwing it on the trash heap... They just do this to psychologically wean people there off it until it is forgotten.

How could the people still in this religion not be fed up with the hypocrisy? Truth today and trash tomorrow.

What was your deconstruction process from being a jw?

i became aware of jws and the un ,so i checked the internet and found it was true that they were a member, and that led me down the rabbits hole and started to look into the history of the bible students and the behaviour of russell and rutherford etc ,and how much the teaching changed and the internal politics and the failed end of the world teachings etc.. i then found myself in a no man's land regarding god and the bible, i then began to use critical thinking regarding the bible and if there was a god , looking into the origins of the bible and it's stories eg adam and eve story, flood legends, exodus from egypt and if the jesus story was historical or not etc .. looking at the origin of our universe and the planet earth led me to the conclusion that no god exists.

the purpose of this topic is just to understand your deconstruction purpose from the jws and not to get into arguments about our now held beliefs or lack of.

My ‘deconstruction’? I would have to say that after the 1995 Generation teaching, I knew it was over for me in the Witness religion. There were things that didn’t sit well with me before this and teachings I didn’t agree with (them knocking careers) - but this 1995 thing was the ‘last straw’.

I didn’t leave right away but started an in-depth research on the religion.. It was like going down a rabbit hole as you said.. I remember that UN thing and realized the immense hypocrisy.. It was also comforting to read about other people who had similar negative experiences! I read tons of things online and a few books, ‘Crisis of Conscience’ being one of them. I also took a closer look at the origins of the religion with Russel and Rutherford and thought how crackpot it sounded.

Of course I felt somewhat foolish that I was taken in by this but that feeling was overshadowed by my great relief to be getting Out of there.

so the c.o and his wife came over for dinner and of course checked out our library and saw lord of the rings and told us off for spiritism books...it's just a damn fantasy book the bible has more magic and devils in it.

That is true that Jehovah’s Witnesses were not taught appropriate boundaries.

As someone not born-in I found this shocking. But, they learned enough about me anyway. I think they had less respect for a single woman’s boundaries than a married person. They thought they could come up to me and say anything they wanted or ask any question. I got a reputation as being ‘outspoken’ because I answered a few of these nervy idiots and they didn’t particularly like my answer.

Back then: I might have had a few sisters over a few times and a shepherding call once (a mistake I never made again).. And this was all back when I was ‘in’ and a ‘believer’. Now? 🤣There’d never be a reason JWs would be allowed to set foot in my home.

she was a longtime buddy, who was pimq-pimo-ppimi-on-occasion for many decades.

then shortly before the pandemic, she was dating a brother who was reaching out to become an ms [mind you, this guy was a mic-handler for several decades as well--until an older brother (who was a close friend of his uncle--who converted him into the cultporation years ago--encouraged him to the point of harrassing him to move up the wt corporate ladder🙄😤].

I also was pleasantly surprised to see that video clip of that UK MP severely criticizing the Jehovah’s Witness religion.👍🏻.. He was raised as a JW and is not an outsider!

I especially like how he pointed out that CSA is never done in front of 2 witnesses.. I always felt that the 2 witness rule was referring to other crimes..as no intelligent person would expect CSA to be done in front of an audience!🙄

But this exposure of the JW religion’s policies (referred to as ‘atrocious’) by somebody high up in a government is a welcome thing to many people and long overdue!!👍🏻

I wouldn’t be surprised if the sound of your freshly cleaned piece timed with you talking about CSA with those guys made them nervous just for a minute.

The reason there is so much wrongdoing in the Jehovah’s Witnesses (not just CSA but other things) is because there are no real consequences in their fantasy world bubble for any wrongdoer!! No retribution. Not like real life.. These fools expect it will be covered over and/or their ‘brothers’ have to forgive them. Too many have gotten away with far too much for too long.. This why I wanted no dealings with any of them and steered clear!👎

The Witness religion deserves to reap what it has sown.. This is long overdue if you ask me.

I think HIDDLESWIFE is correct. I also think it’s a cross between stalking and desperation that these Witnesses keep coming around to talk to you. But, you have to understand that you are a man and they have hardly any there.. You also are an ex-JW who will talk to them. I’m sure nobody else does…..I also believe they are impressed with your material success. Unfortunately, money attracts people.

What has happened to the Witness religion is the result of them pushing people out the door in the past when they were more populous.. They were so arrogant and quick to disfellowship people. Also, the passage of time and faulty teachings led to people leaving (like me)... Now, you have the situation you are experiencing! I guess as long as you are polite and tolerant and haven’t lost patience yet - they will come around…. Please don’t cave in or be persuaded to visit the hall for ‘old times sake’. 😳

Make sure your medical notes are up to date

i recently had a heart attack, after arriving at a&e they gave me an angiogram and it was discovered i need a bypass (quadruple).

will i was being prepared for surgery to consultant said he needed to speak to me and he said on your notes it says you’re a jw (i’ve been out over 20 years) i said no and i was willing to accept blood and my notes were updated.

i dread to think what would have happened if i had been unconscious and unable to clarify the situation.

So it’s not enough to just tear up the blood card in our wallets! How easy to forget about something we filled out in a doctor’s office ages ago!! It goes to show just how far reaching the ramifications of having once been a JW could be!

In recent years, I had to answer the question of ‘what religion I am’ in a hospital.. I very clearly stated ‘Agnostic’.. Even though I was originally raised Catholic, I didn’t want to take any chances on this particular issue.

I would never have seen elders as ‘glorious ones’!

When I was towards the end of my time in the Jehovah’s Witnesses, I saw the trend of them trying to ‘elevate’ the elders yet higher in people’s eyes.. I wasn’t buying it.. Sorry if anybody did. The thought sickened me.

Even though I left because of the 1995 Generation teaching, this trend of elevating men there showed me the JW religion was going in a direction I wasn’t going to tolerate.

I could be wrong, but the question sounds suspiciously like somebody wants to make a phone call about you. Some person might want to make brownie points by being a tattletale.. Little rats.

Garbage like this reminds me of how glad I am to be Out of the JWs.

We all know how the game is played in that nonsensical place.. You sound like you are not really ‘Out’ but on the ‘fringes’.. Do you want aggravation and drama in your life? If not, I would do what others have suggested and say very little and/or go radio silent.

I am totally out so I wouldn’t care what they said about me but everybody has to do what’s right for them.

JW light Elders?

so many elders are now saying no to pretty much everything.. they are saying no to assignments and away talks.

saying no to jobs in the cong.

the cos and the super fine elders are using scripture and the elders manual to try to persuade them to step up.. many are coming off as an elder, but even more are simply saying the cost of living or other reasons they are just finding it hard to fulfill all their assignments.. if you say you want to come off the public talks list altogether they still try putting you down for some and making a fuss saying you have to give some public talks.

You are right about that high cost of living.

Isn’t it ironic that the Witness religion’s stand against careers has come back full circle to bite them in the end?? These younger elders have to knock themselves out (probably with lower paying jobs) to make ends meet and to take care of their families. They can’t and are not willing to do what those old school elders did.

From what I remember: those old school elders were men who were in the workforce and made decent salaries! They were at the point of collecting pensions.. (In fact, observing these men made me firm in my decision back then to hold onto my full-time job.)😉

Point is: these older guys were better off financially than some of the younger people who came after them. They also had more wisdom (I think). It’s no wonder that younger people in the Witnesses today have No desire to follow in the footsteps of the older generation there.. Things aren’t equal.. And as JOURNEYMAN said: the congregations are filled with many problems. These appear to be of a magnitude not seen years ago!👎 I have no doubt things will get worse there and it seems like a slow collapse.
