Please don't all jump on me but I never had a problem with not "leading" in any way in the congregation. I had no desire to lead there. But at book studies and congregation meetings I made "loaded" comments when necessary and didn't care who liked it. If you want to get technical, this scripture seems to conflict with the one in the OT where ancient Israelite women ran a household and directed staff, etc. She obviously had to use her mouth and brain there!!
What I did take offense to was "brothers" trying to get in my face about some aspect of my personal life that they had no business to - then I told them off good about it!!!

Are we really free or are we just kidding ourselves?
by cyborgVision inhope i can get some positive feedback., and i really mean it, don?t want to offend anyone but .. .
reflecting on your own experiences are people on this website mainly open to new points of views, new ideas, or is this mainly a site for criticizing even when there?s no concrete evidence just for the sake of it.
reason why i?m asking this is because i?ve been a member here for just under a week here and already had unpleasant experience of being dragged into pretty nasty argument just because i dared to disagree with someone.

I think I am free now. But with regard to people being insulting and criticizing another poster - that seems to be a problem on all message boards - even ones on hair care! I don't know what it is. Maybe posters feel as if they are in competition with another poster to see who is the brightest, the wittiest, etc. That shouldn't be what this is about. We are, presumably, all adults here and we are recounting our experiences with the JWs. In each case, these will differ. One will not necessarily have the same experience as another because of gender, geographical area, etc. We are here because we want to tell our story, whatever it is.

Wacky quote about not killing DFd people
by rebel8 inthis is one of my fave quotes from the bizarre wt archives.
it illustrates how underhanded they are.
although this is an ?older?

Unfortunately, there would be those who would kill if told to do so. Not all. But some. This shouldn't surprise us because we have experienced hateful attitudes and judgmentalism from people there and it is only a hop, skip and a jump away from something more drastic (for certain mentalities). Besides, someone once told me that there cannot be any love in a heart filled with judgmentalism. The two emotions cannot exist side by side.

Does anyone feel that their abilty 2 make money has been influenced by WT?
by theotherside inwe were told so many times that we were slaves 2 not only god but anyone in a secular position of authority.
so i feel that this only encouraged a subordinate and non confortational attitude with our employers.
almost 2 the point that that even those of us who are self employed never get 2 develope the killer instinct that is needed 2 compete in the business world.
-

My father never had the "killer instinct" and he was never a JW. As for myself, I think I do have the killer instinct but I lack the desire and ambition. Being in the business world I saw what was required of people and how they want your soul. And if you drop dead are they going to erect a plaque in your honor? I think not. I always felt my freedom was important (even if it was only freedom of mind).

is America No. 1?
by Pleasuredome inthis is an interesting article i found.
i guess if you were to ask anyone on a street anywhere in the world what they think is the leading developed country in the world, they'd probably say the us.
so with that in mind, here's some interesting statistics.... .

Unfortunately, you are right with regard to education. The U.S. has slipped behind. I remember my Catholic grade school changing their teaching curriculum. As a result, my younger sister has horrible grammar and sentence structure skills. They definitely "dumbed down" the education level over the years. Sorry, if anybody's feelings are hurt over this but there is a high degree of illiteracy and functional literacy in this country. Have you ever seen so many misspelled signs? Actually, I think it is unfair to compare the U.S. to other smaller countries because the U.S. is so large it is an empire next to them.

Anyone Feel Guilty For Not Going To The Memorial or For Going This Year?
by minimus ini have no guilt for not attending for 2 years in a row.
-
LongHairGal
I still don't know if I am going tonight as we speak. If I don't go this will be the first time. I always felt stupid sitting there and passing the glass of wine and the plate. It really makes no sense - like inviting people over your house and telling them to watch you eat - but they can't have any.

Did You Feel Guilty Because You Couldn't "Do More"?
by minimus intruthseeker made a good thread explaining just how much time we actually do spend in the "cult".
most of us couldn't do everything that was expected.
were you one of the guilty ones??
-
LongHairGal
Yes, I did long ago. Before I came to the realization that many things were wrong not just from a doctrinal standpoint but also with regard to the people. I realized with them it is all or nothing. I also realized that it just didn't "work" - even if you "bought" it all.

Did You Feel Superior To Those People Who Only Ever Came To The Memorial?
by Englishman inwe did.. we used to call them "memorial saints".
they were the fringe members, the fallen away, the disfellowshipped, those who had their own private pipeline to jehovah, bible studies, good-will, disinterested husbands, delinquent kids, prophets, lunatics and uncle tom cobley and all.. in short, all the weirdo's that could be mustered together on just one night of the year.
but it got the numbers up.

LongHairGal
No. But I know some felt superior to me. In my congregation there is a woman who despises me (for what I don't know) - I guess I threaten her in some way. She is a very over-righteous type who gives loud preachy comments. One year I arrived early at the Memorial and chatted with a few others inactives like myself. She gave us all a glance and I read her mind. I knew she was thinking "here are all the deadwood". Well, in my case deadwood for a reason (not laziness).

Morning worship comment from Bethel
by Smoky ini received this email from a friend of a friend:.
'comments made by brother lett at morning worship today.. the comments were about the work we have of bearing witness of the truth.
" again, the angels make note of it.. we knock at the fifth house and again no one is home.

So: Steve Lett's father was the richest man in Alabama? I seem to remember another GB member (maybe there are more) who was an heir to something. Am I to believe this is just coincidence? Maybe I am just jaded but I do not believe this is a coincidence.
