xjwms:
What they have is not real love but conditional love. This is a love based on performance. Now in real life there are unspoken conditions with our dealings with other people in general in that we refrain from doing things that will hurt them, etc.
But the "love" they have is based on you jumping through hoops. And if you fall out of step with their dance routine they will fall out of love with you.
Can you just feel the love??

Do you feel, "Love with strings, Is Not Love?
by xjwms ini have just started listening to a cd from the robbins group, ... it is an interview with leo buscaglia.. he made this statement, "that love with strings is not love.
" it really drove home a reminder of my association with jw's.
if you don't do what we tell you we will not love you.. then he said, ... humans blame love.

What were your reasons for not liking the ministry school?
by LongHairGal ini dropped out years ago because i couldn't stand getting together with sisters i didn't like to do a talk.
i hated it with a passion!!
i do realize that you did learn but what i resented was that the sisters were inflicted on each other in a way that i don't think the brothers were.

It was as if whoever dreamed this up thought the sisters should be lumped together like a giant quilting bee like something over a century ago! Maybe it makes the men feel all warm and fuzzy but I despised it.
It was bad enough having to be with them doing the door to door work! -

Compiling List-Trivial Items People Are Counseled Against
by love2Bworldly ini hope this is not a repeat of past threads and i hope to get a lot of response.

You are right about how they want you to stay bored. That goes along the lines of how you should stay home and look at four walls and not go anywhere on a holiday - as though God would be pleased. I guess he just wants us to be tortured. If you are smiling you must be doing something wrong according to their logic.

JW working the obituaries
by Icansaylucky ini was reading my local paper this morning and there was a letter to the editor.
the writer had recently lost a child and the child's obituary was recently printed in our paper.
the writer said she received a letter with a "jehovah witness tract" called "what help for dead loved ones?

I agree with you both. I say god bless you now whenever I can. I just think it is good manners. They say it is rooted in paganism. Well, so are many things in our culture. I tell you they strain out the gnat and gulp down the camel! All in all, they differ just for the sake of being different. -

Let me think now! Besides the usual ones:
I remember years ago being out in service and stopping for lunch at a deli and getting a package of devil dogs cakes with my order. The brother I was with told me he wouldn't get them because of the name!
One sister told me she thought only women with loose morals wore musk oil. Another sister told me I should wear clothing one size larger so they wouldn't be tight. -

What did they all do on "worldly holidays" when you were home alone?
by LongHairGal ini always hated being alone on thanksgiving or christmas.
what bothered me was that if it were known you accepted an invitation by relatives it was frowned upon.
but what got to me was this: is god more pleased that i am home looking at four walls alone rather than being over somebody's house??

It is an evil of human nature to take advantage or exploit something or someone good. I have seen this in the "truth" and in the "world". They did this to Jesus. Remember the ten lepers? Only one came back to thank him. -

When you left the JW's, did you keep all your books & magazines?
by Rod P ini had a collection of older publications almost second to none.
along with the 30-year publications index, i felt invincible in the research department.. then i got disfellowshipped and divorced, and my ex kept them all.
" i couldn't tell her "for research" because that would have sounded like i was going to write a book exposing jw's, which would have made things even worse.

When I found out the truth about them I was so angry and betrayed that I got rid of almost everything. The first things to go were those bound volumes, then that big fat book about their history (I forget the name), then the "autographed" song book I got for my baptism signed by one of the anointed. I can't believe I held on to these things like they were treasures, but out they went.

25-year-old elders and 18-year-old ministerial servants
by Gopher inat some point in the 1980's, a good number of younger men were appointed to the position of servants and elders in congregations, at least here in the midwestern usa.
before the 1980's, the required age for elders seemed to be 30, and for ministerial servants 20 (except in rare cases).
perhaps due to a lack of men who were "reaching out", the organization needed to "reach down" and pick out younger men to populate their hierarchy.

I have turned down shepherding calls because one of the two coming over was a ministerial servant - and he was no kid either!
I considered it a serious matter to be discussing my personal business with somebody who didn't have the permanence (or at least the illusion of it) that an elder had. I have heard of more than one MS being removed for one reason or another. Then what happens to all the secrets you told him when he is out drinking with his buddies? -

This is just one of the things that made me hate their guts.
They didn't care if you drew your next breath; they didn't care if you lived in the desert like John the Baptist and ate wild locusts and honey; BUT just let there be a rumor that you had a boyfriend or whatever and then you got a phone call.
The conclusion is that all they cared about was that you were following their goddamn rules. -
