Mary,
I agree with you. Just because they use the name Jehovah doesn't mean he likes them. After all, THEY took that name. He didn't speak down from heaven and give it to them. Are they being presumptuous?? As I mentioned in my previous post: they would have to name times and dates that God supposedly spoke to or communicated to them.
Do I have a RIGHT to ask this??? I think I do. In the Bible everything is set out about who spoke to whom and when, etc.
But, modern day witnesses do not feel they have to account for or prove anything to anybody. They just expect gullible people to believe their boastful claims just because they said so.

Does the GB truly beleive they are being used by God
by sspo in.
what do you think?.
i have a hard time accepting the fact that intelligent men truly beleive the creator has a special arrangement with them and somehow they are being used in a special position because of one scripture about the faithful and discreet slaves.. they should all be locked up in a nut house for beleiving that.

Think about it logically. If they were used by God, HOW does God communicate his thoughts to them???
Does one of them go into a trance and write things down, etc? Or, does God communicate verbally to one of them. If this were actually so, they would have to put it down in writing like in the Bible saying: "on such and such a date the Lord God Jehovah spoke to Brother ______ and said ................." If this were so, I would also like to meet and shake the hand of any such brother!
Can they produce any REAL evidence like this?

Enduring Test within God's Organization, a fairly nutty talk

MsShock:
Yes, I think that was the talk I am referring to. You are right when you say it tries to make you think you are there to take all kinds of abuse from everybody. I saw that early on. It really is not a recipe for good mental health. There also was an attitude of being suspicious of people now that I think of it.
But, as far as anybody infiltrating the cong. now, that is a joke. People want to get out.

I didn't look up this link but I am wondering if this is the talk I heard years ago. I had copy of it somewhere (bad audio, copied over and over). I am sure I got rid of it when I got rid of a lot of other things. This was from back in the days when talks were passed around and copied. We were all so thrilled to have a copy of some special talk, like it was the voice of Jesus Christ speaking!
If I am not mistaken and if I don't have my talks mixed up, it said things along the lines of that we had to do the right thing no matter what the brothers did or did not do. We had to be zealous, etc. even if others were not zealous, and so on. It might have used the analogy of a forest and how the brothers were like trees, and some were struck by lightning, some were dead trees, etc. We were to look at the forest as a whole.
All in all, it was a good talk but because I feel the way I do about the whole org. it makes me sad to think about it.

I noticed early on they tended to be nosey. Once they got a foothold in your life or business there was trouble - unsolicited advice or remarks, etc.
There is too much "togetherness" and lack of respect for boundaries in this religion. This is a problem if you are single - especially if you are female. They must feel that since there is no marriage mate to protest the intrusions, they have a "green light". I do not feel this nosiness is motivated by good will or "Christian love" on their part. In some instances, they want something or are just looking for somebody to exploit.

I've heard this before used with some ethnic group.
Question: "How many __________ does it take to change a lightbulb?"
Answer: "One to hold the bulb and three to turn the ladder around."
With regard to the JWs: change it any way you like. E.g. There has to be a meeting to determine if the bulb is burnt out. Then only a brother in good standing can hold the bulb with ministerial servants with 10 hours or more in service to turn the ladder around - with prayer before and after.

FullofDoubt:
I am somewhat like you. I was in my 20s and floating around and it sounded good at the time. There were a few clues that something wasn't right early on but I was caught up in a whirlwind of socializing in the beginning and I just ignored them. I knew I never really would fit in because I was not willing to make so many concessions or allow people to intrude on my life or control me (how dare anyone try). I guess I never took it seriously enough and I am sure many of them never took ME seriously enough.
I was also a marginal witness who never really got in the thick of things too much because I worked full time. If I was a real bible scholar and did the research like many people here did I would probably have been out long ago.

How many 'real" friends did you ever really have in ther "truth'
by The Lone Ranger insure we got to know a lot of people, we knew a lot more people then the average person, but how many real friends did we ever have?
a friend that we could trust, that we could confine in.
i can say i had just one, bro x and even then i still had to be careful, bro x is an elder now and he tells me that im the only real friend hes ever had, he cant freely talk to anyone.

I could never stand the term "FRIENDS" as it is commonly used there. I used to think: "with friends like these, who needs enemies?" because of their tattle-tale ways.
People think they have friends there. They are mistaken. Mostly what they have are conditional acquaintances. I had several. Most of them are gone except for maybe two. One is inactive and I can tell them how I feel. The other is still in and I can't reveal my feelings to this person.
Once you are out of step with their dance routine you will see these "friends" back off. But it is not so much them backing off from me. In all honesty, I have withdrawn from them because I feel in many cases they are like hollow people who can't think. I can't relate to people like this.

What I hate is the quoting of scriptures to try and "guilt" people into doing something. As far as the scripture with Jonah, that was JEHOVAH that was telling him to do something - not just some guy. The elders think they are like Jehovah and people should just do what they say.
If you think about it, you can quote just about any scripture to make it sound like somebody should do something YOU want them to.

Whatever happened back then is no excuse for anybody hating anyone today. Hopefully, most intelligent people know this.
The Roman empire is gone and the Pharisees are long gone.
We cannot help and are not responsible for whatever happened in antiquity. This is a different world than the one of the first century.
