  Sorry, but you can’t really be believing that JWs going to meetings are supposed to give money, goods to homeless people outside(?).. It would be endless. Not to mention that the halls aren’t a relief center.

  Even if the average JW wasn’t near broke because of not having decent jobs doesn't mean they should be giving $$ to panhandlers left and right.

  It’s a shame the religion itself doesn’t have social programs. They knock careers, promote poverty - and then say people should check out government programs and other relief (which are Christendom’s churches, ironically).

  To add insult to injury, they imagine that responsible working people in congregations are going to tolerate being targeted to give money to JWs who chose not to work! 👎 (Glad I’m Out).

  Too many needy inside the religion who didn’t work and too many needy outside. The social problems in our world are a bottomless pit.. People who want to help the homeless and needy should support these organizations and programs that DO offer food and other relief. Just my opinion.

  I just saw a post on Reddit from someone who heard that AM3 did not step down but was supposedly removed and is no longer in bethel and attends a congregation that his son attends in South Carolina (or words to this effect).

  So, can anybody on here confirm if this is true?

  during the height of the pandemic all elders had to report to the co anyone who was struggling with bills or who couldn’t pay the rent.

  the co reported it to the branch.. i don’t know what happens next.

  do the branch help at all?

  That’s exactly right and this is what I have a problem with.. They target what they perceive are more ‘affluent’ people in the congregation ..to give $ to people there!! And this will happen again and again…

  In all likelihood, these Witnesses are needy because they followed the dictates of the religion and did not get a decent job/career! Meanwhile, I was criticized and shunned because I had a full-time job!.. I’m retired and Out many years.

  If I were still in the religion like a sitting duck, these hypocrites would be coming up to me asking for money for JWs who chose not to work.👎 Nope, I’m not having it! .. I told all the PIMI JWs I know that I would not tolerate this. (If they didn’t like hearing it, too bad.) JWs looking for charity better ask brothers with a business for a job!

  I also believed it was a case of ‘sour grapes’ when some Witnesses knocked college. It’s about control and envy.

  I once had an elder admit to me ‘college educated brothers are harder to counsel’.

  So, they knock college for two reasons, in my opinion: (1) it’s a case of some elders not wanting rank & file more knowledgeable than they are; and (2) other people in the hall will be jealous when brother/sister so-and-so get a higher paying job than the crappy one they have (or were convinced they should settle for).. Misery loves company.

  I wasn’t ‘rich’ by any means. But, because I didn’t follow the ‘pursue poverty’ ethic years ago - some JWs were bothered by this. Didn’t matter that I minded my own business. The attitudes I got ranged from shunning or imagining I ‘owed’ somebody something!! Of course, I paid no mind to any of this.

  Yes, I have seen that Witnesses in general are indifferent and unsympathetic when you describe some bad treatment or injustice you experienced there.

  I can only imagine how painful it would be for somebody who experienced CSA to have their experience disbelieved or being told to ‘pray more and get over it’!

  I’m sure you are and were plenty spiritual enough! .. In contrast, the elders you describe sound like hypocritical pharisees. The worst is if they have college but yet condemn it from the podium. They don’t care if they ruin some young person’s life.

  I never begrudged anybody for having money or being able to afford whatever. I never coveted anything anybody had. I worked and supported myself. My problem with them was for knocking me for not pursuing poverty - when intelligent older people there did not.

  I refused to follow in the footsteps of other single women there and I worked full-time…Now, many years later, these women (if they didn’t get married) are on the edge of poverty. If I had listened to the religion and the hypocritical elders I would not be retired!!! I was right all along for sticking to my guns, and there is no forgiveness for what I experienced in the JW religion.

  i came across an xjw post on redditt from a rn.

  she states that nearly every jw she ever treated was on anti-depressants or anti-psychotic drugs:.

  A few JWs friends I keep in touch with are medicated as well. A coincidence? I hardly think so.

  This religion really does a number on people’s heads. I am not even a born-in and I came away with OCD. I never took meds for it but probably should have. Because I’m out so many years it’s pretty much gone away.

  But, pity the PIMIs in the religion that have so much mental pressure to live up to nonsense: constantly being judged; acting like they are under siege; dealing with people crazier than they are; being targeted for money plu$ dealing with the unenviable, difficult existence if talked out of getting a career! And to add insult to injury, dealing with growing older in a system they didn’t expect to still be in!.. I’m not surprised that they are on meds!

  That was very nice of you to offer those gift cards to the elders ‘to distribute anonymously to needy members of the congregation’.

  But they refused to take them saying ‘the congregation doesn’t do that’. However, I remember from time to time people were privately approached with an envelope asking for money for whoever.. So, they don’t have a problem asking.. Giving would be another thing entirely.

  What I gather is they don’t want to be in the position of figuring out just who is entitled to this gift;.. and/or what happens when people who did not get this gift go to the elders and say ‘hey, where is mine. I’m needy too’, etc.

  So, the elders would be in a funny position. I don’t want to defend them but this situation would inadvertently start trouble and somebody would come down on them hard, in my opinion.

  Elder asks my disfellowshipped cousin to leave house while grieving for his grandmother

  fourteen years ago i started a thread on how horrible my disfellowshipped cousin was treated after his mom passed away and the terrible actions on the part of the elders at the funeral home.. 67. horrible conduct by congregation elders at my cousin's funeral.............. well, here we are 14 years later, and things haven't changed!.

  my aunt ( who is my disfellowshipped cousin's grandmother ) was placed in home hospice care.

  the nurse told her daughters ( who are jehovah's witnesses and live with their mother ) that their mom probably has 2 days left to live and that they should call the immediate family.. my disfellowshipped cousin and his sister show up in the early morning.

  This is outrageous and these elders have clearly overstepped their boundaries!

  HIDDLESWIFE:

  You mean to say that a ‘sister’ living home (apparently not guilty of any serious sin) but who had a job that interfered with meeting attendance - warranted busybody elders to go to her home and ask her family to throw her out???

  Society in general has to be made aware that the Witness religion has done things like this! In my case, I also had a full-time job I was knocked for!.. Thank God, I didn’t come from a Witness home. If I did maybe I could have expected the same thing! Imagine the audacity of these rats?

  I am happy for this woman as she got out of this trap of a religion! Me too! The sickest irony of the situation is if we were both active in the religion now, we would be targeted to give money for people there who never wanted to work.👎 ..This is the biggest reason I’m happy I’m Out.
