Depression & Isolation

i've been recently reinstated & am very happy about it.

This feeling is not unusual among Witnesses who (secretly) have issues related to bad treatment in the religion. When I was active in the JW religion I always got the impression that Witnesses were afraid to say or do anything that would make the religion look bad in the eyes of the world.. They felt they had to ‘cloak its sins’ as it were.

If Witnesses are honest with themselves they would have to admit they do a fair amount of lying to make the religion look better. I may have done so myself a few times in the early years.. But, it was mostly because deep down inside I felt just plain stupid and had to make everything look ‘good’.

in the memo, new york officials identified three barriers preventing illegal immigrants from getting those state jobs.

to address these barriers, the civil service department said it would create positions in ‘transitional’ titles with requirements ‘more in line with the candidates’ qualifications.’ in other words, illegal immigrants would be hired into the same positions while, at least temporarily, having the usual qualifications such as english proficiency, proof of education, and previous employment waived for them.”.

You are probably right and that is what is happening: the ultimate goal is they want to replace decently paid people with low wage immigrants who don’t dare complain about anything.

I guess we are going backwards to the days before unions and protection for the workers!

shunning the congregation

i was watching a youtube by jerome about religious freedom part 2. it was so disgusting to see the two jw testifying that instead of the congregation shunning those who disassociate, it is the person who disassociates that is choosing to shun the congregation.

the commissioners kept asking why someone who had been sexually abused had to be shunned if they disassociated ....jdubs talked in circles and never answered the question.

so glad i woke up and got out ...to support the org is a reproach to anything decent..

I watched some of that and could not stand that little man (looked little to me) at the table who kept insisting to ‘your Honor’ that the “person is shunning the congregation”. 🤣 Yeah, insult our intelligence a little more.

i joined about 5 days ago and have some observations/questions.. does anyone notice the profile update doesn't seem to work?

i like reading some of the profiles, most accounts don't have them and maybe that's because the tool doesn't function anymore?.

also i've been noticing a diverse number of subjects which made me think of the categories of people on here.

I was not raised a Witness either. I’m so grateful I had a fairly normal upbringing.

I came into the religion already with a job. Like you hinted at, they did not like this. I assume you are a man (sorry if I’m wrong).. But, I’m a woman so maybe I was viewed worse. Whatever the case, their bad attitude towards me made it much easier to ‘Fade’.. As I was already in the ‘world’, I didn’t have to learn to navigate my way around. I didn’t have to learn anything new. I just lost time - and that was bad enough.. I did have to ‘unlearn’ certain teachings and thinking habits and get away from the judgmental personalities there and reconnect with good people from my past. So Glad I got out.👍🏻

You sound like you have pity for people still there, and maybe you’re a better person than I am. You also have a good philosophy about life. Best regards.

I didn’t have a sad leaving either.. I planned my long overdue exit from the JWs.

It felt like a breath of fresh air and that a load of bricks was lifted off me when I stopped going to meetings. 👍🏻

we talked about the recent changes in the 2023 annual meeting.

i especially pointed out the one about getting rid of hourly reporting on monthly time slips.

Yes, you’re lucky your wife wanted nothing to do with the JW religion and this made it easier for you to ‘Fade’.

It was fairly easy in my case. Because they couldn’t manipulate/exploit me, I was not missed and it was easy to Fade.. I may have gotten some ‘hope you’re okay’ cards, but that was about it.. In my observation, they only chased after people who were a material loss to them. If somebody had a skill that JWs used for free (a sucker), if somebody entertained and fed the freeloaders (oops! I mean the Friends) or if they had a business and contributed money or employed JWs - these people would be chased after!

I was glad to be left alone.

Yes, that’s the way it is.

But, as a ‘brother’, you were more accepted and desirable because there are so few men there nowadays. And, men who have a decent job/affluent are going to be chased after. If you’re good-looking that’s a plus.

DESIROUS OF CHANGE:

No, it’s not ‘unbelievable’… But, in your case, your wife was married. She was ‘protected’ because she was with you.

I noticed that other attractive women in the hall who were married were not scrutinized to the same degree. A single woman was treated as though she were a threat to everybody! And forget it if she worked and wasn’t doing favors for all the Users!

The two women I mentioned are/were married with children and didn’t have quite the ‘same’ experience as I did, but are well aware!

a builder who bludgeoned his client to death with a hammer in a row over her new extension has been jailed for at least 15 years for murder.. peter norgrove killed sharon gordon at her home on 20 july last year.. her daughter rhian brown said norgrove acted like a "wolf in sheep's clothing" after earning her trust at the church they attended in dudley.. wolverhampton crown court heard he led the jehovah's witness service the same night he killed mrs gordon.. he repeatedly lied to her about the work he was doing, which took 15 months instead of six weeks.. .

"he didn't have the experience to be doing the work he was doing," miss brown said.. "he took full payment for the extension in advance, which we believe to be more than £30,000.".

Yes, it might have been just plain old anger that this (meek) sister dared to question him. He surely would have hated me!

These JW guys just can’t stand being questioned or challenged - even if it’s about your own business. This is how sick the culture of the religion is: no damn boundaries in the first place and a mistaken trust in some people which is surely undeserved.

Next time somebody should look in the Yellow pages or ask their non-JW neighbors for some leads.

UPDATE:

I had a nice conversation with an acquaintance who is also close to the one mentioned in the OP.

We discussed all the things I talked about in the OP. We are on the ‘same page’ so to speak. This is a very smart retired professional lady who experienced the adversity that I experienced because I also worked. (Although she always took shit and abuse from elders as I think she was looking for approval.) Both these people are people pleasers whereas I am not. I was brutally honest with her which was fine because so many years have passed since I saw her. I told her because of what I experienced in the religion I would not tolerate these people as I had no use for them.. I was disliked because (1) I worked, (2) didn’t do favors and (3) had a decent figure I got criticized over. As they say: Three strikes and you’re out.. People even criticized her for bothering with me back in the day.

She is imagining that there’s hope I might ‘feel differently’ because the religion is ‘so different’ and the ‘end is so near’. Fat chance. We ended our conversation on a pleasant note.
