Thanks Richie for the comment. I know what you mean. I felt embarrased going to the Memorial, it felt like I was attending a meeting for a pyramid scheme. Afterwards my dad wanted us to go to Big Boy for some coffee. He told the waitress we just got out of a meeting for Jehovah's Witnesses, the look on her face was priceless. Thanks again.

Went to Memorial - where was everybody?
by Bonnie_Clyde ini haven't missed a memorial since i started attending over 50 years ago.
tonight i was expecting the hall to be jambed as usual.
i sat in the 5th row from the front and from where i sat, i could see 31 empty seats--there may have been more.

Well... after 12 years I went back for the grand finale! It seemed like hardly anyone was there. I remember Sunday meetings at the kh had the usual attendance of 95- 112 people. Tonight the attendance was 159! For a memorial it was a pretty weak demonstration compared to Sunday morning at ANY catholic church in the world.
I noticed things that I just didn't pick up on when I was little. Like the fact that...no one had a look of success, happiness, you know that light inside you that makes you beam like sunshine and everyone takes notice of you. No one else had that. Everyone looked old and worn out. The women had long hair and long dresses. The men had business suits on. It was mostly filled with couples and old people. I wondered if the couples were alone because all of their children left.
By the way, I went to get more material to finish my anthropology paper.
Something strange happened, afterwards alot of people came up to me, and they have to know I am still disfellowshipped. But they acted like they couldn't care less. Well...most did. But also, I saw an old friend there and she knew where I lived. How did she know that!!! I moved to Chicago and moved back. Also, I have an unlisted number (which I forgot was unlisted until I looked in the phone book). She said she lives 3 streets away from me, so maybe she saw me outside. I don't know, but I was walking on air and not one of them could make me hang my head low. yay!
But to answer your question- Yes attendance did seem low. But what do I know, I've been away for 12 years so I was expecting the old circus.

Find out why she wants to go so bad, what is pushing her to do this?Tell her you will pay for college if she just stays. You can make really good money and still qualify for free schooling from grants on the fafsa.gov web site. Just fill it in. Fafsa will contact the school to let them know how much schooling she can get for free. I don't want to disclose too much, but my husband makes over twenty an hour and I still qualified to have all of my schooling for free. Books and all. Make it easy on her to stay here.

JW and Home Schooling WHY, WHY, WHY????????
by Wordly Andre ini just heard that my nephew will not be attending high school, instead will be doing home schooling, why do jws pressure their kids into home schooling?
i really do love my nephew he is a bright kid, i think he would do really great in high school, and hopefully attend college, but i was informed yesterday that he will not be going to high school because its not safe, and besides he made the decision not to go.
i am sorry but he should go, i know what they got planned for him, home school and full time service, this is the time of his life where he needs to concentrate on his education, he will end up just like his mother, who also never attended high school, seems that when your totally lost into the society, covering all aspects of your life, that leaves you socially inept, depressed, and have a distorted view of the world.

I'm in the same boat as you Andre, still working on a degree at 30.
I was also homeschooled during my high school years, even though I was on the honor roll. Just out of curiosity, is doing kingdom hall "homework" and school homework getting to be too burdensome for him? That was my case, studying for the meetings put me WAY behind on my homework, my mom humiliated me and asked if I could go into slow learner classes. The school knew something was wrong but I could never tell them. Do you think he might be finding it easier of a load to carry if he homeschooled instead of going to school? If you find their motivation then maybe you can start there. BTW- I'm on the National Dean's List now and I carry a 4.0 GPA going full-time, with raising 2 kids. I'm not trying to toot my own horn, just showing you that the JW really do want to keep there offspring at the same or less intelligence as they are.
You had a good idea about taking him to your school!! Help him with the paper work if you can. Sometimes with the help of grants, he could go to college for free.

Me and my family gave a 1950's theme party (non-alcoholic) without their permission. The young and old came, an older couple said what a nice time they had and that they wished there were more get- togethers like this. We were all called into an elders meeting later. We wondered why the whole congregation came, but not one elder and his family came. It was a set up...they could have come to us prior to the party and told us any concerns they had, but they waited till after the party to scold us. The kids could come in costumes instead of the 1950's, which was fun since they weren't allowed to celebrate Halloween. (It wasn't around October either) We were called in because we didn't get their permission and because one boy came dressed as a woman. They said, "Didn't you wonder why no elders were there?" But they didn't know prior to the party about the boy's costume. Hmmm........too bad it's against Jehovah to even have good clean fun!!!
