Death In the Family, How do I handle this ??? HELP !!!

my mom (die hard witness), is not doing well, she called me for the first time in over 3 years on sunday, she probaly has a year or less left in her, we had a good chat, she cried alot and said how sorry she was, and that there might be something to the things i have said.

(wow i almost fell over).

and then today my grandma died at age 100 (witness for 75 years +).

Why can't you step into a KH?

I feel the JW's are crazy too, but you will only hurt yourself if you do not go to your own grandmothers funeral. Isn't that what they do? If you were catholic your mother probably wouldn't step foot into a church for your funeral either. But do you really want to be like them? Be the bigger person and go to her funeral, love your grandmother as she was- a jw, and don't forget who you are- an intelligent person that sees through their lies. Just feel sorry for those that don't and sorry for their ignorance and unloving behavior. Sit in the front row- YOU are family, not them!!!

Where to Start?

hey yall,.

i'm an inactive jw that wants to begin my critical study of this religion and make a comparison between this faith and mainstream christianity.

in addition to catching the wtbts in its lies, changing doctrines, and stuff critical to leaving the faith, i also want to get a historical perspective on everything.

Take class at your local college about religion or Philosophy of Religion.

Look in history books for your answers, not the bible.

Anthropology or History

That should head you in the right direction. And always question everything. If it still holds true after looking in numerous publications by many different people with different beliefs, different cultures, and different agendas ,then it's true.

Personally, the only thing I've found 99.9% true is science. If your looking for "proof" of god, you won't find it. God is all about belief and faith, not facts and proof.

Inappropriate "shepherding" calls.

how many have recieved calls by the elders that were under the guise of "shepherding", but somehow inappropriate, i.e, you were a woman alone with only one elder showing up, or you felt physically intimidated by both.

or say they show up at like, 10:30 at night for a shepherding call.

and you say "hey, i appreciate the visit but please call first!

I never have recieved a 'shepherding' call! Not that I want any! But, apparently I'm supposed to be worse than a disfellowshipped person, I'm an apostate, so maybe they figured to stay away from my satanic house. LOL Gimme a break!

Maybe that has been my only saving grace on why they haven't bothered me! hehe

The funny thing is how I got this reputation. My husband's business partner was a big time christian and he gave my husband some copies of several Watchtower and Awake publications and underlined the jw's own literature with a highlighter to show me their contradictions, false information, and false prophecies. At the time I was still very naive, and I showed my mom all of the jw literature to ask her if she knew about all of this. Big mistake! She started accusing me of reading apostate literature and that I was now an apostate because I believed it. Funny thing was, all of those copies were copied right out of the WT and Awake magazines! I guess reading their literature makes you an apostate! LOL

Oh well, it was a blessing in disguise!

Putting an offer on a home........(law ?)

to make a long story short- last saturday, we put an offer down on a house.

then sunday and mon.

we did some research on mortgages and decided that we could get a better rate of interest if we waited till next spring to buy a home.

we did some research on mortgages and decided that we could get a better rate of interest if we waited till next spring to buy a home.

I've been hearing alot of bad about FHA loans. It seems like it used to be so reputable.

Oh well, this fall I'm starting school full-time and I really won't have the time to pack, move, and decorate/set up a new home. Also, I think we should have alot more in savings next spring anyways. So I think we made the right decision.

Hey thanks everybody for your help.

I think I was just listening to my dad and he was getting me all worked up thinking that they could sue us now.

I made up with my husband. Then we got a call saying our offer was rejected. So I was upset for nothing at all.

Note to self: Don't stress about the unknown.

She hasn't e-mailed us yet. But she's told us verbally that their agent laughed at the offer. I don't know what their response was.

I don't know what a sunset clause is. If we do have one- it wasn't worded that way.

The offer will expire at 12pm this Sat.

We signed a sales contract and I feel that the owner should have been given a chance to respond before we said that we weren't going to buy it. They may have flat out turned it down or counter offered and then we could have turned it down the right way.

I feel that they may try to sue if the house doesn't sell. They could say we held up the house during prime selling time for them and before they could respond we broke the deal.
