  as a witness, i knew several men who attempted to grow beards.

  when they did, and attended meetings, it did not take long to be talked to by elders and told, "as spiritual men, they should not display an outward form of rebellion.

  " why was this a form of rebellion?

  Has anyone else heard this backwards reasoning?

  Yes,and after putting up with that comment for years, I finally started counciling the Elders that they should take that offended one aside and explain to them that they shouldn't be so sensitive, and that there is nothing wrong with a man "not shaving his beard off." After all, were they looking for something to stumble by?!? As long as it was well kept, and didn't bring reproach on Jah......

  I figure that the military nationalism of the 30's, 40's and 50's had some bearing on grooming of men in society. Many of the "leaders" in the hall had military backgrounds. They were the best organizers, you know.

  when the generation teaching was ditched, along with several other interpretations of matthew and luke, i started to doubt big time.. when the new teaching on the sheep and goats came out i was no longer convinced.

  any fool could see that if the son of man had not yet arrived, it negated the gb interpretation of themselves as the faithful steward.. but no!!!.

  new light showed that christ arrives at different times for different purposes.

  I don't understand all of this talk. Tonight at our Service Meeting the Service Overseer told us that at the Elders and Ministerial Servants school, just past, they were all told that "the Faithful and Discreet Slave were scripturally Right, and can be Trusted!!!

  and gil went to bethel in the late 80's he was on the building department or what ever they called the construction crew there?.

  Used to be in the same Circuit with Gil. He is quite a bit older than me. Visiting Bethel about 5 or 6 yrs ago, we ran into Gil. Bethel powerhouse. I believe he headed up the international building committee. You get a quick glimpse of him in the "Behind the Organization" video.

  To our JW friends, are we too spiritual minded for wife-swapping?

  so the other night there was a wedding shower for my jw brother-in-law and his fiance'.. it was one of those wedding showers where couples attend.

  all the guys sit in one room and watch football and complain about their wives, and all the women sit in the other room and gossip and bash their husbands.. well that is how it usually goes.

  i looked around and noticed all the husbands were hovering over the others wives and flirting and talking dirty and gossiping and brushing up against each other and so forth.

  have been gone from the board for a month or so, but i have read with great interest some of the stories about very recent "elder" schools from actual attendees.

  i thought some might like to know about my experience in one of these in the very early 70's.

  i was pioneering where the need was great (clinton, okla.) and was made assistant cong.

  I tend to agree with Jgnat, that the house belonged to a slacker and this group came looking for evidence.
  
  Maybe they were looking for an ashtray, a concubine, a copy of InSearchofChristian Freedom, blood sausage, or a charity receipt?
  
  or worse, a copy of Millions Now Living Will Never Die!
