Horrible conduct by congregation Elders at my cousin's funeral.............

my cousin passed away last week from cancer at the age of 49. the cancer spread so fast it took our family by surpise.

we figured she had a couple of years instead of months.

she left 4 children(3 were baptised and 1 was disfellowshipped a couple of years ago).

i've downloaded a bunch of songs off crime wire and come up with a helluva christmas album.

originally i made it to play for my kid when mom's not home (heh heh).

but i'm really enjoying it myself.

Saw "Australia" with Kidman and Jackman = It was brilliant!

this is like an australian "gone with the wind" it was very classic hollywood.

they look fantastic together and the story was great.

the bombing of darwin was very realistic and i have nothing negative to say about the movie....funny, sad, lots of action, great scenic views of australia.

Elders....what sort of training do they get...how are they selected

my wife who is studying with a jw, whenever i ask her a question she will respond, i don't know, i am still learning, you need to ask the elders about that..... she raises these gentlemen up on a pedestal....are there any special qualifications, what sort of training do they recieve, any background checks required??

obviously some gigs were better than others...but the 2 biggest disappointments for me were phil collins (life-long fan, but played too many covers, too much brass, and too many drum solos) and counting crows (adam was being obtuse and changed almost every song to being unrecognizable)

my wife and i have a lurking witness friend who sent us this information as she is very pro-active trying to fight child abuse from within the organization itself !

so get your barf bags ready- you are going to need them to stomach this " official policy " garbage from the wt society.

TIJKMO- I am so sorry that you were falsely accused in regards to this 14 year old you are relating about. I do hope something was done to clear your name and bring her to justice and discipline was handed out for her " false allegations " towards you. And I hope you have got counseling, or been able to move on in your life. Although your situation is the exception to the rule ( most child abuse allegations are accurate ) it must have been hell for you to rebuild your reputation. I wish you success and good luck in that direction.

no nothing was done nor has it since..at the time i didn't know..and when i did i no longer cared about anything. but yeah moved on.

Also - I still think a 16 yr.old boy having sex with a 15 yr.old girl is not child abuse. It is a lot different from a 30 to 50 yr.old man having sex with a 15 yr.old. If you don't see the difference in that - then I don't know what to tell you. Peace out, Mr. Flipper

of course i see the difference...my point was that the watchtower org does also..which is why they specify that even tho someone is technically and legally guilty there is a difference and it shouldn't for all time be held against someone.

in some aspects of the child abuse issue they are wrong..in this they are not.

and that would be my overall overall point. they are stumbling in the dark on this subject in much the same way as the world in general has stumbled to the position that it has settled on at the moment with regard to the heinous crimes committed against defenceless children-a position that is far from satisfactory since it never can be..... the greater guilt the wt org bear is the continual claim that god is in any way directing them.

In answer to your question : No- I would not report a 16 yr.old boy having sex with a 15 yr.old girl to authorities because it is NOT child abuse. It is 2 horny teenagers doing what comes naturally with raging hormones. It's not a crime.

it wasn't true..and not surprisingly there was no evidence..it was a 14 year old who made it up.

and if it had been you and several other people on this board then i would have been reported to the authorities despite it being untrue. no matter what the elders did to me (and some of them believed the stories) i am glad that they weren't you. peace indeed

TIJKMO- If child abuse happened with one of my family members being victimized by another family member - I would confront them about it ; then report it to the police authorities. Clear enough ?

why would you confront them...surely the accusation is in itself sufficient to merit reporting to the authorities.?

or is it?

what if there was no evidence at all? what if the reporting of it was bound to affect your loved and respected family member in such a way as the accusation would stick and he would lose his job, his reputation, his family. you....and there was no evidence.

and what would you do if a 16 year old family member had consensual sex with a 15 year old. would you also report that to the authorities. because it is a crime and you be duty bound to in the full knowledge that his/her now being in the system is likely to affect every single future prospect he/she has even though you know that the action was not abuse but 'normal' teenage hormones.

no..i'm afraid it isn't clear enough.
