many of us have shared in these projects, and honestly, some of my best and worst memories of the 'friends' were had at these crazy events.

will you please share some of your experiences at quick builds?.

i was in charge of cooking breakfast on scottish builds....we would cook sausage egg bacon and potato scone...and put one or all in a roll...our breakfasts were reknown...the rest of the day we would provide hot and cold drinks cakes chocolate etc all through the day and then we would serve a cooked snack at t-time.(cooked lunch-seated with real cutlery and china plates- was another department)

at one quickbuild the rbc (regional building commitee) department (they were in a caravan right next to our buffet) sent a message to someone who sent a message to someone else....and eventually to me....i was told that i was not to put so much food in the rolls and only to let each worker have 1 roll...i asked what the reason for this was..and the bro telling me said that the rbc had noticed that some brothers were getting food and then rejoining the queue and getting more and this was to stop...so i said these are builders they are working for nothing they are sleeping on someones floor they are arriving at 6 o/c in the morning and you want me to tell them they can only have 1 roll...besides what is to stop them from joining the queue several times till they're not hungry...the bro telling me was apologetic cos he saw that it was unreasonable (+it was his hall) but told me orders were orders

so i got the signs department to make a sign (they were more than happy to oblige) and erected it for t-time....STARTING TOMORROW AT BREAKFAST ONLY 1 ROLL PER WORKER..THIS IS PER INSTRUCTION OF RBC..ALL ENQUIERIES TO BE MADE TO CARAVAN AT RIGHT

when t-time came and workers started to show their discontent one of the rbc came and said to me...take down the sign..i said why..he said cos it doesnt put us in a very good light..i said i know..you didnt expect me to take the blame did you....you made the stupid rule you explain it to the bros...i'll take down the sign when you retract the rule...he went away and someone even higher up on rbc told me to give the bros as much as they wanted for breakfast....which i was more than happy to do

last night i was reading from the old orange "paradise" book.

in my quest to understand how ideas got into my head, i decided to go back and look at the book that was used by my parents to study with me 40 some years ago.. i came upon the part dealing with the "original lie" from gen. 3:4,5. at this the serpent said to the woman: "you positively will not die.

for god knows that in the very day of your eating it your eyes are bound to be opened and you are bound to be like god, knowing good and bad".

Long Is a Genesis "Day"?

Many consider the word "day" used in Genesis chapter 1 to mean 24 hours. However, in Genesis 1:5 God himself is said to divide day into a smaller period of time, calling just the light portion "day." In Genesis 2:4 all the creative periods are called one "day": "This is a history of the heavens and the earth in the time of their being created, in the day [all six creative periods] that Jehovah God made earth and heaven."

The Hebrew word yohm, translated "day," can mean different lengths of time. Among the meanings possible, William Wilson?s Old Testament Word Studies includes the following: "A day; it is frequently put for time in general, or for a long time; a whole period under consideration . . . Day is also put for a particular season or time when any extraordinary event happens." 1 This last sentence appears to fit the creative "days," for certainly they were periods when extraordinary events were described as happening. It also allows for periods much longer than 24 hours.

Genesis chapter 1 uses the expressions "evening" and "morning" relative to the creative periods. Does this not indicate that they were 24 hours long? Not necessarily. In some places people often refer to a man?s lifetime as his "day." They speak of "my father?s day" or "in Shakespeare?s day." They may divide up that lifetime "day," saying "in the morning [or dawn] of his life" or "in the evening [or twilight] of his life." So ?evening and morning? in Genesis chapter 1 does not limit the meaning to a literal 24 hours.

"Day" as used in the Bible can include summer and winter, the passing of seasons. (Zechariah 14:8) "The day of harvest" involves many days. (Compare Proverbs 25:13 and Genesis 30:14.) A thousand years are likened to a day. (Psalm 90:4; 2 Peter 3:8, 10) "Judgment Day" covers many years. (Matthew 10:15; 11:22-24) It would seem reasonable that the "days" of Genesis could likewise have embraced long periods of time?millenniums. What, then, took place during those creative eras? Is the Bible?s account of them scientific? Following is a review of these "days" as expressed in Genesis.

my thoughts on cities of refuge

1...i think they encouraged vengeance...dont forget they were for accidental death...murder carried the death penalty but so did manslaughter..(murder 2)...if your bull gored someone to death or you hadnt fixed your roof and someone died..then so did you...so why would anyone want to kill someone who had accidently killed someone else through no fault of their own...and who in their right mind would have as a priority avenging the dead as opposed to comforting the living who had lost a loved one

2..how long did they have to stay....till the death of the high priest...so if a new one had just been installed that was probably for the rest of your life...but if the high priest died the next day then you were free and the avenger of blood could do nothing...except control his anger and desire for vengeance..so why if he had to control it then could he not have controlled it the day before

3.. did they take family....otherwise it was no more than a prison sentence for a crime you did not commit..yet the bible makes no mention of taking family...and if they couldnt then what was the point of living anyway

4..let me put to you this scenario...you and your best friend and your son are doing some building work and a hammer flies out of your best friends hand and hits your son and kills him...devastated as you are who do you want to help you through your grief...your best friend right...but no- you are supposed to down tools, forget about your son..ignore your crying wife and chase your best friend and if you catch him then you are to kill him not by accident but deliberately...so could you say to your friend..dont run..i have no intention of killing you ..i want you to stay and help..i dont want to lose both my son and my best friend on the same day....i dont think you would be allowed to because that would undermine the whole israelite arrangement and would set a precedent for choosing which laws you obeyed and which you ignored

and the modern day equivolent of the c.o.r. (wt95 15 nov) is going out on the fs so as not to be bloodguilty

U2, Denver... Last night...

wow, what a great band- u2!.

they played to a packed house and did an awesome job.

they played a lot of the less "pop" songs ie.bullet the blue sky.

got a ticket last week for u2 at hampden...glasgow in july....will be the 4th time seeing them..dont think any gig by any band will beat their zooropa gig at parkhead,glasgow

saw maroon 5 last year....thought i was at a jailbaits-r-us convention..they were gr8 though

alanis morrisette...she rocks btw...and doesnt give a monkeys about conforming to appease an audience...most of her well known songs were barely recognizable...and encore was an acoustic set of bout 4/5 songs....lot of crowd were not happy....i loved it....does she have new cd out

Was Anyone Reinstated But Felt Marked?

just wondering if any of you experienced what i did years ago when i was reinstated.

although people were excited about my reinstatement and said things like "welcome home", i could tell when i would see people i used to be close to--that they still treated me differently, almost like i had a disease or something.

maybe it's because i was married to a non-jw and had a baby by then?.

sorry gary i dont think it is as simple as that......when you are fired you do not lose all your friends or family or workmates...you can still meet up with them even if you dont work together anymore...and no company in their right mind would tell those family friends or workmates that they are not even allowed to say hi to you for fear of losing their own jobs...further if you dismissed wrongly there are legitimate ways to 1..get your job back or 2..seek financial compensation

Father told me about the elders school a couple years ago about this topic.

because my now ex wife was molested by her dad back in the 60's (while he was an elder), my dad and i were talking when he got back about how the issue of molestation was heavily discussed.

he also tol dme that the society's stand on it had always been that of that it must be reported to the athorities.

that there had been a problem for too long of local elders being the ones to sweep it under the carpet, to protect a friend.

Well that's a bad example. The Silentlambs website has (or had; you'll have to check) on file a letter from the Society to an elder instructing him to ignore the fact that a new JW had confessed to murdering several people before he became a JW.

blondie posted a link to a short bio on the gb members and i noticed something i hadnt seen before.

these guys all have to be of the 'annointed' but jws say the calling to be of this class ended in 1935. whats with these very young new members?.

in coatbridge cong one of the annointed was df....so someone else in cong decided to take his place..problem was df one got reinstated and started to take the emblems again
