by Vienna Angelika ini live in winnipeg and would like to meet up with some people here..

Twitch
yea, i live there. rather chilly these days, no?
There was a meetup.com group here about 8-10 yrs ago; it's how I met a few other xjws initially, Lady Lee and Nosferatu. LL moved down east but has a Best Of section here worth a look. The local meetup group kinda faltered. Not sure if there's another one around.
headisspinning is from around here but haven't seen much posting from her lately
Stick around this place; there's a wealth of knowledge and wisdom here going back quite some time. And many posters who can offer some really good advice. Make you think. Change stuff around. Etc.
BTW, welcome :)

Does an "all knowing" God have the leisure of choosing not to know something?
by wannabefree inthis concept just always caused a conflict in my mind.
i can remove the idea of predestination with knowing something in advance, why would the watch tower insist that god chooses not to know something?
is that even possible for god?

You wouldn't think so. A god who isn't omniscient or chooses ignorance really isn't much of a god IMO

A picture so outrageous, it deserves its own thread...

Are you now ashamed of how gullible you were as a JW?
by biometrics innow that you realise how idiotic some of the jw beliefs are/were, do you feel ashamed of how gullible you were to believe them?.
if anything my past as an adult jw makes me understand how easily manipulated people are by the people and environment around them.
and that even intelligent people can be influenced beyond what is rational..

It's not a bad thing to feel as such necessarily. A catalyst for change.
Forgiving oneself and moving on. Such simple and sublime words, seemingly elusive but dynamic and attainable.

Have you ever actually talked to a psychotherapist?
by Lore innobody in my immediate family has, as far as i know.
there seems to be an unwritten rule against them among the witnesses.
(or maybe a written rule i'm not aware of).

I always thought therapists were like mechanics; You just keep going back for the rest of your life so you don't fall apart.
Not so much. More like a repair when things don't work and maybe a tune up if needed. The idea is to get you back on your feet and give you the tools to maintain your own conveyance, as it were. It's not and shouldn't be a crutch.
I'm not speaking of those who've severe psych disorders. Just everyday people who need some fixin' with something they can't fix on their own.

Yes and it was very helpful
It was a few years after exiting and I had hit a wall in a few ways, lost in others. A skip in a storm. So I saw a behavioral therapist who specialized in addictions and who had some experience with the jws, two of my favorite topics at the time ;) My first real education in critical thinking and analysis and it was good to have an objective and trained professional offer insights and suggestions on complex issues. I saw him for a few years then and a few later on and will always remember the discussions and lessons learned.
RIP Dr. K
