she said it was arrogant and made assumptions.. i didn't want to derail that thread so i started another wondering if this is a common thought about this belief on this forum.

i guess i naively thought the value of doing to others as you want them to do to you was generally accepted as positive.. i understand people have different opinions of jesus as a person but i don't want to get into that here.

I referred your original whine regarding me, the one where you didn't have the uh, fortitude, shall we say, to call me by name. So yes, you absolutely are confused.

What I didn't mention earlier and what is plainly obvious is that you weren't the only one who critical of the topic. I didn't mention any names and didn't think I had to, but the point was made yet you're the only one taking offense. As I mentioned, my post was drafted so as not to be overtly aggressive or insulting on a point of disagreement. I think most people would/could see that as a modicum of respect in a conversation.

Also, I based some of my initial post on previous experience with other people besides you and how they treat others. You seem to take my initial post to mean it was all about you. Which it wasn't entirely but it's not surprising that you once again, make it all about you.

Oh, and it's rather telling of you to try and hit below the belt as a last resort. Very telling.

Anyway, as I suggested, rather than continue to derail a thread because you've got some kind of hate boner for me, feel free to read my suggestion to Eden. I'll get you two a room and you can give each other sexy massages telling each other over and over what a terrible person I am.

Who said you were a terrible person? I didn't and don't think so. I don't care for your posting style but that doesn't make you a bad person. All I did was disagree with you, initially.

It seems here and in general you can't handle disagreement and resort to below the belt innuendo and insults as some sort of defense. Again, very telling.

Not at all. Perhaps you're confused because your complaint has nothing to do with with the golden rule and what it means. Or perhaps you are just desperate for something to complain about. Only you know. Or don't, depending on how confused you are.

Confused? Complaint? You asked a question with respect to your opinion, I responded. If you can't handle answers you don't like, perhaps you shouldn't ask people questions.

Who said I was waiting for anything? Assumption on your part. I said what I felt as I always do and considered that what I was saying might offend you, as clearly it was in disagreement with. Odd that this would be misunderstood really, as it seems common for many, but not all people to avoid direct conflict in a social setting. I get that you aren't like most, maybe that's why you're confused on my posting style and conversely also why others sometimes take offence to yours. But either isn't something I can answer and really doesn't matter to me.

Maybe you're confused, maybe you want to tell me what you think but haven't quite worked up the courage, maybe you've a bit of an internet crush. Who can tell these things, but you, of course, and you aren't saying. It's certainly possible you don't even know.

I dunno, lotsa people live secret lives in a sense. Not so alarming or unusual methinks.

I realize many people here may "put on appearances" for the sake of family but that's a bit different IMO. I get the sense many don't enjoy it.

I couldn't do the dual life thing though. I got tired of the counter intelligence, lies, conflicting ideals and goals, etc. Life is so much better not living a lie.

I've heard of a "formula" for dating younger women, take half your age and add 7. That's the minimum. Your mileage may vary...;)

But really, who cares? As long as both people are happy and/or getting what they want/need. Life is short.

It is generally accepted as positive and you are not naive for thinking so. Just because someone has a different opinion on it doesn't make you naive or the idea less valid.

As mentioned, it's the beginning of empathy and consideration for those beyond your immediate circle of people. It's general politeness and courtesy to others and doesn't need to be more complicated than that. Besides, the way some people act towards others and like to be treated is not something I am capable of or wish to be like. So I defer to just being me and do the best I can with respect to others. Somewhere along the line, common ground can hopefully be found, and if the effort is appreciated, it usually is.
