VLC is the best media player app and will play just about everything. You can use it for streaming and can even multicast from it if you wish as it's got full network config options. Used to play a DVD and stream it to various PC and even over the web (with some amount of monkeying around) Not sure about the TV guide service though. But its open source and free

i know vista has been much maligned but honestly, i've had no problems with it.

Condescending theist tries to comfort fellow exjw's by telling them life isn't worth living without Sky Daddy
by cappytan inthis guy took over the exjw meetup.com group i follow and just sent out this email to all of us.to all members : i stepped in as an organizer to save the group in the hopes of connecting with other believers.
it appears that after leaving jehovahs witnesses you all have given up your promise to spend the rest of your lives serving god.

What Dunedain said
I read the trilogy in junior high, despite having to hide the books at home. The rich tapestry of words that Tolkien wrote was captivating, sublime and at the time, taboo. Loved every page.
The movies are excellent and do the books fair justice, (more so for LOTR than the Hobbit methinks) but still, a top notch moving picture experience.

So ... Russia and Nato at war? Should we be worried?
by Simon init seems unbelievable but turkey (a nato member state) shooting down a russian jet fighter on their syrian border seems to be "meh" news and no one is too bothered about it too much.. the world seems a bit upside down right now.
i don't think a lot of countries really know who the hell they are fighting and who is and isn't on their side in it all and really what is going on.. smaller incidents than this have led to major conflicts in the past but hopefully calm heads will prevail.
china shot down a us spy plane years ago and the world survived and forgot about it so things will move on i'm sure.. i'm guessing the price turkey pays for their gas supply from russia will be going up soon though.. man, that republican primary is sucking all the news attention from the room.

Your thoughts on the new Star Wars?
by Coded Logic inso i've thought for a while now that jj has the lowest bar to clear in cinema history.
all he has to do is make a movie that's not as bad as the prequels.
but upon viewing the recent trailers, it looks like he's actually got the "feel" of the originals down.

Looking forward to the new episode with positive vibe.
I was 9 yrs old when Stars Wars was released and it blew my mind, naturally. It spawned a new space sci-fi revolution and was quite the cultural phenomenon. It's a timeless piece of cinema and has yet to be topped in the series IMO. The Empire Strikes Back is a close second and easily bests the one with Slave Leia and walking Teddy Bears, lol
Episodes I-III were ok, coulda been much better.
JJ will do well with this methinks. He's got good pacing, mixes character dev well and has intensity and flash for the action.
Also looking forward to Star Wars Battlefront for PS4 being released in 10 days, just in time for winter, lol

Eden,
I've enjoyed your posts and consider you a thoughtful and considerate person. I can understand your position having seen a few of the exchanges, with some things said to you (and a number of others) being completely unacceptable in a public forum. Personally, I don't care what Viviane and those like her say or do; it's not my problem and I've learned not to let such people get me down or tell me what to do or think.
If you choose to leave, I respect your decision and wish you well. But I hope you change your mind and continue to contribute here. Ignore those who strive to knock you down to build themselves up; they will always be around. Stay for yourself and those who may benefit from your experience and emotional intelligence.

On respect for the belief of others. Sorry for the long post
by StarTrekAngel ini am inclined to start this thread in response to some comments made in other threads.
i have been coming around these forum for quite some time now so whatever you find in here is not just related to something someone may have said this week.
it can go months back as well.. i have seen many who claim to respect the belief of others but when it comes down to applying it into practice, things take a whole different tune.

Some good comments re empathy. They say you can catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Methinks they are right more often than not.
