  Why is the WTBTS so against mental health professional treatment?

  following on from sandy's thread on her brother's pt, i wondered exactly why does the wtbts take such an opposing stand to professional mental health treatment?

  do you think that they fear a JW waking up to reality and leaving the WTBTS?

  It would be nice if they thought that and on one level they probably do. It would be like higher education - they will lure you away from the "truth ™

  I saw a psychologist about 6 years or so after I left. When put to the objective reasoning of a professional, the doctrines of that faith, it's precepts and the beliefs that still lingered in me came apart rather easily. It was a big step into a larger world.

  It's kinda sad the org has this position and I think it's a large contributing factor to the fact that there are as many "hidden" problems within it's ranks as there are.

  Daughter getting out of ARMY!!!!!

  i just got the confirmation she is getting out!!!.

  she was in combat competition(won for her team) but she broke her wrist and thumb...and shattered her knuckle.. .

  so they gave her a choice.........as they knew she wanted out.

  Did anyone just get tired?

  during my days as a witness, which was only about 10 years ending circa 1981, most of my memories revolve around how totally exhausted i always felt.

  toward the last, i was dragging my family out to the five meetings a week and working fulltime and getting my quota of publisher hours on the little sheet every month, even doing the temporary pioneering bit now and again.

  when i had the ministry school, i even worked a four day week to be able to give every talk on the program in case someone did not show up, which frequently happened in our little congregation west of fort worth, tx.

  How can we make good decisions, when we can't see into the future?

  i mean really...i keep making bad decisions..that seem "right " in the short term...yet go bad in the long term.. how is it possible for anyone to make good decisions..or be perfect..when we don't know what the end result of the decision is going to be?.

  how can you make a mistake when you know what the end result of every decision is going to be?

  guess you would almost have to do it on purpose.

  Good or bad are concepts we project on events and ourselves perhaps. Perfection sounds nice in theory but is unrealistic. Doesn't mean you can't do your best.
