  Ever consider joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

  has anyone here left jehovah's witnesses to join the churuch of jesus christ of latter-day saints?

  what was your motivation for doing so and how has it worked out?.

  if you haven't joined the lds or considered it, as an ex-jw, what is your general view of the lds faith?.

  Never considered it; they seemed to have their own sunday flavour of divine right nutjob beliefs and it wasn't anything I wanted a part of

  I have been in the local "hall" and spoke with the "elders" on business a few times. No breaks and full pop on rates. Creepy dudes.

  It was interesting to walk through their church and observe some of the peoples. Different but all to familiar in a lot of ways.

  i would like to thank everyone for the discussions that we've all had.

  after all of them i have realized, all of you have made me realized that after all of the stuff i have been through, i just need a good friend.

  and regardless of how hostile our discussion could get i have felt that you have all shared something with me that have helped me.

  Is it just me or has this site become a Believer/Atheist warzone?

  i enjoy the odd thread about evoloution vs creation, etc but lately it seems that a large percentage of threads here devolve into fighting between atheists and theists and distract from what most of us here see eye to eye on, the wt and related things.

  i wish things could be more civil here and fr people to realize that people will never see eye to eye on the topic.

  it gets so tiring to see the contstant bickring and fighting on those threads.. they seem to go on page after page but very little of substance is discussed seeing as the existence or non existence of a god can be proven by anyone.

  And often enough it is the ones who claim not to want to hear about it who ask the most questions.

  Questions such as "could you lay off the preaching please"?

  Seems to me if one really wants peace, then one must do their part to keep it.

  The OP asks why the JW org is considered a cult but wishes no response from apostates

  Anyone active in the JW org wouldn't consider it a cult, naturally

  Those who have little to no knowledge or interest in JW affairs likely wouldn't be posting here

  Anyone who was a member but left because they recognized it as a cult is apostate by definition. These make up the vast majority of posters here

  So who does the OP expect to get responses from?

  Ignoring the ramblings of modern day prophets and those who profess divine, direct revelation is good policy IMO

  At one time, such people irked me. Now it's more like, eh whatever. Arguing with fools and/or the faithful is rather pointless.

  Offering a counterpoint is of value to those who are undecided but I'm not responsible for the decisions of others. There's a sucker born every minute.

  As for the thread topic, this site has always had such "battles", just the faces have changed and will always IMO.

  parents were involved, unskilled labor, time, energy.

  no thing has ever been observed to make itself, to my knowledge.

  if you could teach me one thing to convince me not to believe what would it be?

  for instance what has the wt taught about evolution/science or mans existence that is wrong and could possibly change skmeones mind?

  and the more important question, why is it a creator couldnt allow for species to evolve?

  Atheists, what is the best argument FOR God?

  there are no convincing arguments for god, but some are worse than others.

  i thought it would be interesting to see what people consider the best (of the bad) arguments for god?.

  in my oppinion it is the fine-tuning argument from cosmology.

  If god includes everything and we do not know everything, then we cannot know god. This is as much proof of god as it is of anything we can imagine, and that is not proof.

  I think the best "argument" for god is still an emotional one. This alone has stood the test of time, and for better or worse, continues. That there seems an instrinsic need for answers to the big questions is without question. The question really is, what answer suits the questioner?

  It really boils down to semantics. this god thing. A personal god or impersonal force? God who created everything physical? God who favored the Israelites? God who favored other seekers? God who is love? God who speaks to each of us?

  So far, his voice is interpreted by a few and heard by a multitude. God is popular, no doubt. This cannot be denied. Funny thing is, those who disagree on the same message call each other false. This is telling IMO.

  its an arena for jaded athiests to bash anything christian or god related.

  yes, i know the jw's lied to us about god and the truth.
