There has been a report of multiple bombings in London, 3 subway car and 3 double decker buses. We have a lot on the board with from England, I hope they all are safe. My thoughts are with them. Edited to add: Also reports here in states are sketchy if there is any more info, please let us know. And stay safe, be aware of your surroundings.

Working for the State or Government
by jula71 inthe above thread got me thinking.
one of the main reasons dub's don't get involved with the military is that they do not want to "support" the government to which it serves.
ok, how about working for the government?

opr83 thank you for your viewpoint and openness and welcome to the board. One major problem I have is the use of certain catch-phrases, this one being "no part of the world." The GB have attached such wide use of this phrase. From politics:
*** w03 3/1 p. 5 They Triumphed Over Persecution ***In March 1933 the German government called a general election. Dr. Detlef Garbe, head of the Neuengamme Concentration Camp Memorial near Hamburg, explains: "The National Socialists wanted to force a large majority for their chancellor and führer, Adolf Hitler." Jehovah’s Witnesses followed Jesus’ admonition to stay politically neutral and to be "no part of the world," so they did not vote. The result? The Witnesses were banned.—John 17:16.

In stark contrast with Satan, who has "great anger," Jehovah has "tender compassion." (Luke 1:78) He is the very epitome of love. In fact, this grand quality so characterizes our Creator that the Bible says: "God is love." (1 John 4:8) What a difference between the god of this system of things and the God you are privileged to worship! While Satan seeks to devour, Jehovah "does not desire any to be destroyed." (2 Peter 3:9) He views every human life as precious—including yours. When Jehovah in his Word exhorts you to be no part of the world, he is not trying to stifle your enjoyment of life or restrict your freedom. (John 15:19) On the contrary, he is watching over you because of the wicked one. Your heavenly Father wants you to have something far better than the fleeting pleasures of this world. His desire is that you attain to "the real life"—everlasting life on a paradise earth. (1 Timothy 6:17-19) Jehovah wants you to succeed, and he is urging you on toward that goal. (1 Timothy 2:4) Furthermore, Jehovah extends to you a special invitation. What is it?even to jobs and the secular world:
My main issue is towards Governments. For example, the current thought is not to work work for a tobacco company, doing so would be supporting the tobacco industry. In that context I would agree, working for them, you naturally want them to succeed, if the do well you will benefit. It makes sense. Using that same principle, working for a government office, are you not supporting the government? I know many that work in the state university system, government and state inspectors, post office, etc. aren't they giving support?*** w02 11/1 p. 12 "Maintain Your Conduct Fine Among the Nations" ***

Do we have other responsibilities toward those who are not fellow believers? Definitely. We recognize, of course, that "the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." (1 John 5:19) We know that Jesus said of his disciples: "They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world." Still, we live in the world, earn a living in it, and receive services from it. (John 17:11, 15, 16) So we have obligations in the secular world. What are they? The apostle Peter answered that question. Shortly before the destruction of Jerusalem, he wrote a letter to Christians in Asia Minor, and a passage in that letter helps us have a balanced relationship with the world. -

The above thread got me thinking. One of the main reasons dub's don't get involved with the military is that they do not want to "support" the government to which it serves. Ok, how about working for the government? Is that not showing support as well. Here a few very prominent dub's have state and federal jobs. And some very good government jobs. I find it interesting how they play with words and pick and choose what they can or can not do.

Do The JW's Really Believe The Bible?
by Honesty inthey make all these claims about believing the bible but always refer questions back to the governing body of jw's.
so, who is the final authority on the scriptures for the jw's?
is it really the bible or what some men decipher to be what the bible says?
-
jula71
The dubs were conditioned into not understanding the Bible by themselves but relying on the GB to explain it to them.
Exactly, how many times have we heard, "how can we possibly understand it on our own". And at this point they talk about the Ethiopian Eunuch.

The answer is yes and no. They believe what the GB tells them what the bible says. So they believe the GB's interpretation of the bible. The bible, as a whole, is pretty vague and you can make it say almost anything you want.

by damselfly ini have been out if the jw's since i was 18 and i moved clear across the country.
i moved back into my hometown around 3 years later, and promptly got kicked when i was down by the jc ( who lied about their reasoning.. but that is a different thread entirely!!!!).
so needless to say i no longer have a family of any kind.last night i was in the grocery store and noticed that a woman was passing by with her cart and sort of half smiling / half sad looking at me.

Yet they say they do it out of "love", it truly is sad. I hope you get a chance to see her again and let her know you have never been better.

Medicinal marijuana
by jula71 ini've heard from the "society" that prescription drugs under a doctor's care is acceptable regarding the "keep your body clean" excuse they give smoking.
what about medicinal marijuana, which is legal in some states and gaining popularity?
i've checked the dub "library" and found very little.

Decided that eating the herbs for their benfit was fine, but smoking was un natural and therefore wrong.
That's were it gets a screwy. So why is chewing tobacco or snuff wrong? Likewise, if cloves on ham is OK why are clove cigarettes wrong? That's my point, and much the point of C of C, they tend to make things up as they go along, mostly for show.

Here is all I could find :
*** w82 4/1 p. 22 The Kingdom and the Resurrection Hope ***
Time of the "First Resurrection"
8
The Scriptures link this "first resurrection" with Christ’s "presence [Greek, parousia]." (1 Corinthians 15:23) The apostle Paul writes: "The Lord himself will descend from heaven with a commanding call, with an archangel’s voice and with God’s trumpet, and those who are dead in union with Christ [starting from the first century and up to Christ’s coming to the spiritual temple in 1918] will rise first." Paul then goes on to say that the anointed Christians "who survive to the presence [parousia] of the Lord," and who therefore die during the parousia, will be immediately resurrected and "caught away in clouds to meet the Lord in the air." (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17) They do not have to "sleep" in the grave, awaiting the resurrection. At death they are "changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye."—1 Corinthians 15:51, 52, Revised Standard Version.9
Events in fulfillment of Bible prophecies indicate that Christ’s presence, or parousia, began in the momentous year 1914. (Matthew 24:3, 7-14) Then "the kingdom of the world did become the kingdom of our Lord [Jehovah] and of his Christ." After this world-shaking event "the appointed time for the dead to be judged" came. This judging and the rewarding of those worthy began with those sharing in the "first resurrection" from Christ’s coming to the temple onward. (Revelation 11:15-18) Those anointed Christians who die faithful after the setting up of God’s kingdom are called "happy." Why so? Because theirs is an instantaneous resurrection, allowing them immediately to take up their new duties with Christ Jesus in heaven.—Revelation 14:13.10
The resurrection of the entire number of 144,000 anointed Christians called to reign with Christ in heaven is appropriately called the "first resurrection." This is so because it precedes in time the resurrection to life on earth of mankind in general, the 144,000 becoming "firstfruits to God and to the Lamb." (Revelation 14:1, 4; James 1:18) This puts them in a position of importance, since no other humans can "be made perfect apart from" these 144,000 priests, kings and judges. (Hebrews 11:40b; Revelation 22:1, 2) Furthermore, it is superior to any earthly resurrection, the 144,000 being raised "in the likeness of his Christ’s resurrection" to incorruptible, immortal life as spirit sons of God.—Romans 6:5.*** w59 6/1 p. 347 The Resurrection Hope ***All these will share with Jesus in the first resurrection, he having been the first to experience it. Like him they must first have been born again and begotten to a living heavenly hope by God’s will and his holy spirit. They must have the witness of the spirit that they are God’s sons and, like Jesus, must prove faithful until death. Fulfillment of Bible prophecy indicates that the resurrection of these body members of Christ began when he came to his house for judgment in 1918. Only a remnant of this 144,000 remain, and these experience the first resurrection upon their death, even as Paul shows: "We shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, during the last trumpet."—John 3:5; Rom. 8:16; 1 Cor. 15:51, 52.
The dates are very vague, but these point it to be 1918......i always thought 1919 ?!?!?!
