You know, I still remember a talk at a convention that mocked the extent to which modern Orthodox Jews obeyed the Sabbath and dietary restrictions. For example, hiring someone to press the elevator buttons in buildings on holy days, having rabbis bless food, etc. J.R.'s Christmas suggestions ("the week of Christmas", "services instead of gifts") are in that league.
I'm shocked Bro. Brown did not recommend the family stick a Kingdom News #37 in the Thank You card. For life saving information leading to everlasting life is truly the greatest gift of all. LOL.
I wonder who will replace Bro. Brown. My money would be on Judas Ben Schroder, but didn't he flunk out as the PR guy already?

With typically over 200 Philippino sisters and only a handful of brothers, the English congregations in Hong Kong are quite extraordinary.

New Revelation Book
by daniel-p inwell, it's not big news, but there will be a new revelation book coming out.
it is already published and sitting in the wallkill warehouses.
makes me think why they are giving out dozens of corrections first, and shipping the new book later?
-
silentWatcher
yes, and I heard they changed the title too...
Revelation -- It's Grander Climax at Hand!
supposedly every copy comes with "The Wild Beast" -- a "toy" for the sisters with 10 horns and 7 heads, and 666(!) different settings!
praise jah!

Being SINGLE and premature death???
by kid-A ina new study from the us suggests higher rates of "premature deaths" among single people.
seems a little wonky to me.
as a single,.

Interesting study -- I've seen similar studies before though. I'm single, 28, and quite happy. Personally, I think the only reason people get married is to fill the "downtime" after work. I worked for a startup before coming back to grad school (75-85 hr weeks normal at both), so never had the experience of prolonged "downtime".
For the singles that do, yeah, I imagine it could be pretty lonely. And, they likely fill that void with alcohol or tobacco. Or other self-destructive behavior. Which the study didn't appear to control for.

3 Page Letter Read In My Relative's Congregation...
by SWALKER inmy elderly relative called me all excited about this "letter" that was read in their kh last week.
she told me that it was all about being prepared for natural disasters, etc.
and how the p.o and secretary were updating all their publisher files.

Because the WTS will need to know where to send their free labor force and then collect the full price insurance check from the JW home owner.
----------------------------------------------------
bingo. This is pure gravy, since the labor (which is almost always the largest part of residential repair work -- well north of 50% of the total) will be freely provided by the locals. Who get paid $0/hr.
Praise jeh-hobbie!
From the description, most of the letter is boiler-plate about updating records -- making sure the secretary has contact info, etc. (Curious why email address wasn't included -- but oh well), which is read annually round this time.
The line about signing your homeowners insurance check over to the WT in exchange for letting the yokal quickbuild crew have a crack at fixing your house is new.

How many here have left the org because of this board?
by mrsjones5 ini ask this question because saki said this in another topic:and i would assume that a lot of people on this board left due to this board alone "proving" the lies of the wts.
so, it this true or false?
or is this mostly true or mostly false?

blondie is right. What is most important is WHAT you find on these sites, which validates the doubts you have. I had already left in mind when I found H20 and Kent's old site.
But, everything I foud confirmed I had made the right decision.

so that he could get an automatic 7 virgins in heaven of sorts....
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will gladly practice any religion with a God providing me with 7 virgins here on EARTH.
Interestingly, that scripture where you get the virgins as a martyr in the Koran could be translated two ways: "72 virigns" or "bowl of glass fruit". It seems ancient arabic (like ancient hebrew) doesn't have vowels in written form; the reader knew where to stick them in. Suprised that nobody mentions it more often.

Did you forget how to make friends?
by AK - Jeff insimon raised an interesting point in my last thread about so many leaving the forum - his point was that the ideal situation would be to move on and leave forums like this one in the past at some point.
agreed.
seems as though cult victims in general - and witnesses in particular - have been taught to divest oneself of the social tangibles needed to make friends and move on.
-
silentWatcher
Do you think this has happened to you? Do you, or did you after leaving, have to make extraordinary effort to learn the social skills and get on with it?
----------------------------------------------------------------
Still trying. Being 28 and having almost zilch dating experience (to go along with natural awkwardness) is a nightmare.
