i know an awful lot here are 3rd and 4th generation - but were there any who's parents become dubs as adults?
i'd be interested to here what it was that made an adult become a jw when not brought up that way?.
i'll relate my parents experience shortly...but its something i;ve been thinking about a lot.
Hi there Crumpet...My parents were both raised as Anglicans. They became Jdubs when I was about 10 or so. My mom became enraged at a god who could take children to be in heaven with him, in such horrible ways. Her sibling died from a disease contracted at a young age. The Anglican minister had no other answer than God needed another angel.
At that time the witnesses came calling, and offered her a"better" explanation.The rest is history, as they say.
my husband and i will be celebrating over 11 years of marriage and our anniversary is coming up.
i should be excited but i am not.
don't get me wrong, i love him dearly but i am already setting myself up for a disappointment.

I got the card I would wish he would buy and bought an expensive piece of jewelry had it wrapped and attach it to card. I ordered flowers and had them sent to me at our house. I made reservations for two for dinner at a very nice and expensive restaurant and purchase two movie tickets to a cool chick flick for after dinner. I bought new clothes (expensive too) for the occasion.
That, should do the trick...of course, you know your husband, and how he may react, positively, or not....so proceed with caution, perhaps.

Yeah...............like I give a shite what Habakkuk would have done...because I love football, and watched it even as a good little dub. I do feel sorry for the others, still in, who love it too,.........yet another guilt trip from the GB.
yesterday, my brother and his son were in town visiting.
me and the wife decided to go out and get some pizza to bring back for supper.. when we pulled up to the pizza shop, a guy came up to the car window and gave us his sob story about how he had cancer removed, how he refused to stay in the homeless shelter, and presented a stack of papers stapled together along with his mb health card.
he asked for any change that we may have.
Scully, do you remember last year, or two, there was a story in Toronto Sun, about a woman who panhandled every day downtown? Then someone spied her, parking her BMW a few blocks away...and they ratted her out. Turns out, she and hubby live in Hamilton, I think it was, and although he had a legit job, she was making loads of mony, by begging.
I was really annoyed by this....I don't give my change to anyone who is begging on the streets anymore...I get sick and tired of the teens, who do not need to be on the streets,who could be working, and charities begging for my hard earned money in the doorways of every store I go into.( It's bad enough they come knocking on my door...and I will give to one or two charities), but It's ridiculous....I just use my bank debit card, and therefore I do not have change on me....
lets say that armageddon was imminent and you would deduce that you wouldn't be saved, who would you want to be with to enjoy your last moments alive?

i was the only jw in my family.
by that i mean my parents never were jw nor was my sister, and i'm single.. when i started fading back in the early 90's as a jw, my sister and her husband decided to start attending meetings with the evangelists, then the pentecostal religion, and then the baptists.
they're baptized in that religion.
I understand your fears, JH....just be there for her,( like I know you will be ), and cross that bridge when you come to it.
all to often, my mind drifts to my mixed feelings for my mother.
the deep love that burned in my heart for the woman who had given me life.. the suicidal remorse i felt for bringing such guilt and reproach on her good name.. the blinding anger i felt for her never questioning her beliefs, but always questioning her son.. and so i'm left with a vacuous emotional chamber for a large element that is missing from my soul.. and when you've lost your most valuable possesion, everything else is gravy on an empty plate - pointless.. and so i hurt too, and i love my mom, but does she love me?
the unanswered question haunts my mind.. we recieve, we give, and sometimes, we just plain screw up.

Very well written. I understand your pain. The words my mother spoke to me when we left the borg, were this," I got the truth, so my babies could have a chance to live forever, not in this old sick and dying world. But in a paradise. It hurts my heart, to see them not want that for themselves. You are still my babies, and always will be".
Our mothers believe it SO whole-heartedly, it breaks them up to think that we don't believe the same as they do. They don't see through the lies of the WT, like we do.
Your mom loves you, Richie. That's why she is so angry...her heart is breaking. But, there comes a time, when we must be true to ourselves. If we don't believe it, then we don't believe it. Hurt as it may, our parents have to realize that we are grown ups now, and have to forge our own paths in life.
I hope she gets over her pain enough to accept your decisions, and gets on with her relationship with you Richie. Life is much too short.

this band can be a local, main stream etc..... my favorite local band was little blue crunchy things, they were from milwaukee, wi.

i've seen soooo many witnesses taking meds or alcohol because of unhappiness and depression.
i know of one woman who regularly gos to her shrink and is the most depressed person that i know of.
personally, i believe it's because a jw can never do enough to satisfy god or the elders....what do you think?

Bingo! That's how I felt...I felt that nothing I did was ever going to be good enough. Meeting after meeting, being told to bring up our hours, yadda yadda. Suddenly 10 hours was not good enough, it was bringing the congregation average down....
