Ok..as most of you know I'm leaving my position to take a new one. However, as part of my deal I got a new computer.....Whoo hoo! Apple computers are so very sexy. I got the new iMac G5 20" w/ 2 gig processor and 2 gig of RAM. This thing rocks!!!

Who else here is a Mac fan? Hey Simon, can you make JWD more adept at Safari friendly instead of IE (Internet Explorer)?

Terry I hope I didn't come across as mean nor judgemental....twas not my intent. I'm sorry if I offended you. I've given this thread a good deal of thought.
I think what I failed to convey earlier is that: "Terry you worship at the altar of intellectualism". I was gathering many quotes, sentances, paragraphs that were "simple and clear" as you asked for and not filled with methapors. But I realized that you and your religion is no better than any other. You choose intellectualism as your religion. All religions are artificial constructs of the mind in which to interpret data / beliefs. The words your chose to use are really no better (or worse) than any other religion. You relgion's language must pass what you feel to be "absolute truths". But is your's any different than any one elses? I think not.
Your intellectualism should be judged just as any other religion. Terry, you must ask yourself....are you happy? Just because you are using intellectual langauge doesn't mean you can say it's anything other than spiritualism. It's your minds construct on how to view the world....it's no better nor worse than Catholics, Buddhists, Taoist, etc. It must stand on it's own. DOES IT WORK FOR YOU? ARE YOU HAPPY?
Perhaps this is where the Tao may be beneficial...metaphors and all.
The Way that can be experienced is not true;
The world that can be constructed is not real.
The Way manifests all that happens and may happen;
The world represents all that exists and may exist.
To experience without abstraction is to sense the world;
To experience with abstraction is to know the world.
These two experiences are indistinguishable;
Their construction differs but their effect is the same.
Beyond the gate of experience flows the Way,
Which is ever greater and more subtle than the world.
So as I mentioned before my intent was never to demean you. If that's what came across I apologize. -

You have to keep in mind he has his own mental snaps and therefore comes and goes....he's like the artificial construct of your mind.....there but not there....close but not close....etc.....LOL

I'm a space cadet. I spend most of my day trying to figure out how things work....although I tend to be right more than NASA....so I guess that's saying something. LOL
Actually half my day I help people, the other half I spend pushing paper back and forth between the office and insurance companies. The paperwork part of my job truly sucks! -

The Hedonistic Imperative
by Cygnus inif you aren't afraid of a lot (and i mean a lot) of 10-dollar words, and you're not afraid of the absolute insanity behind this idea, read the articles found here:.
http://www.hedweb.com/hedab.htm.
i would not be surprised if in 20-40 years the watchtower wouldn't latch on to similar ideas.

Any belief system which relies on either permanently changing the human brain "wiring" by touting the benefits of opium and synthetic opioids or finding out a way to medicate the masses sounds like an addict trying to justify his / her addiction. Medicating emotional pain away isn't going to solve anything.
I read about 5 pages of the info you presented. It's not all that dissimilar to those who advocate we all use LSD to experience freedom from our minds.
All I can see when I read musing like this are "Drug addled utopianists". No thanks...I'll pass. -

CAR INSURANCE IS THE BIGGEST RIP OFF IN THE WORLD!!!
by Mary ini just really need to vent here.........i'm just so f**king tired of never having any extra money!!
all's i do is work to pay god damn bills......i just checked the balance on my chequing acct.
and i've got just under $900.00 to last me three weeks.

Well I'd also posit that all the frivolous injury lawsuits don't help. I don't know how many people I know but when they get into a fender bender they demand $6,000 or $ 8,000 or $ 10,000. I'd ask if they were really hurt they'd say "Nah, but I went to the chiro a few times to make it look good." So a car wreck with total damages of $ 3,000 or $ 4,000 suddenley is 3'xs that.
People seem to regard this as ok behavior likened to cheating the IRS out of a few bucks with the reasoning "Hey the insurance company rips me off every month, it's only fair". -
