Schizm,
You like to argue big and that's ok. Where I disagree with is that you generally attack others beliefs and positions. It is more about you proving your point than having a valid discussion or even "heated debate". I don't see you posting "I belive God wanted us to do such and such because of scripture x". Instead I see, "This is WRONG because the bible says it's WRONG and you are stupid for not believing it". You think your are right. Good. You should be doing what you think is right. But others on here are also doing what THEY think is right. I don't see you being very understanding in that regard.
What will come to pass in the future as written in Revelation is UNKNOWN. Your positions are YOUR UNDERSTANDING of the book. Many, many biblical scholars would disagree with you. As they disagree with each other I might add.
I will be the first to apologize for when I get heated up sometimes, to use and unkind word here and there. To err is human, to forgive divine.
But I am of the belief reading alot of your other posts you seem to be "sitting in judgement" of others on everything. As if God appointed you to oversee this board and make some of these arguments. I haven't seen a post where you ever give ground. You draw a line in the sand and defend it to the death, whether your arguement is proven false, silly, or outmoded.
So my question is this.... do you really take time to LISTEN to what people are posting here and let them challenge your thinking? Or do you use this board as an opportunity to sharpen your weapon of debate?

"Never was concerned about his destination, only about the trip."
by Schizm innow here's a unique way of expressing a person's idea of going to heaven:
obituary says: "mr. matlock was never concerned about his destination, only about the trip.
jim's concerns were put to rest as he passed very peacefully at home surrounded by his family.

I reread some of the WT's in the 80's and using "Blondie's Method" you can really see they've been hyping the borg for decades.
IMO I think if Jesus came back to Earth today and walked into a KH and performed mircacles and talked to his people the BOE would need to consult the borg queen to know what to do. Truly, truly sad. :(
I confronted my mother yesterday about the whole UN thing...she hadn't heard of it of course. So I'll keep you posted. -

Guns and JWs
by VM44 indid the watchtower society ban jw's from owning handguns for self defence?.
if they did, when did they issue the ban?.
didn't some of jesus's apostles carry a sword when the group traveled, to protect agains wild animals and human thieves?

Again, I believe this to be a "local issue". Growing up in the midwest where people hunt for deer, elk, pheasent, etc.... guns are not that big of a "hot topic".

I was on a trip to New Zealand this Xmas biking around the south island.
It was amazing to me how many people would peddle into the hotel and the first thing they do is check their emails. So we would get up early at 8 am or so, hit the road biking. Bike for 80 to 120 miles a day. See some of the most intense, wonderful scenery in the world. What's the first thing they do? Plug into the email system at work. I'm like you are on VACATION. Let it go!!!
I felt that being 17 hours apart from home was a rather fruitless excercise if you were going to check in everyday with the office. I often wonder what it must have been like to travel to Europe and whatnot in the early 1900's, before cell phones were global, you had to take a "steamer" overseas instead of jet planes. -

Dantheman...
right on with that eh?
I am overdue on a response to another topic that will probably run 1/2 a page to 3/4 page. I just can't bring myself to concentrate that long.... so short one and two paragraph responses are my ilk...

SNEAKY Bastards!
by Jez inmy husband (non-jw) just called me from work, seems 2 people walked into his workplace, walks up to him and says, "can you put these in your coffee room?
" at the same time shoving 2 mags upside down into his hand.
he was busy, says, "sure" (thinking nothing of it).

Maybe they have just run out of drivel to print.....
Maybe they could turn the Asleep into a better magazine.... like actually print something of interest to people's busy, full lives.
What has their official "reason for godly" change been on the Awake anyway??? Why would they drop it? I assume it's a financial incentive, less writers, less paper & ink, etc... etc... But aren't they cutting off their own money supply by Jo Ho's not ordering as many Awake's and "donating" to cover their magazine expense??? -

A BIBLE STUDY CONCERNING A GOD-GIVEN PLANT
by acadian in1 timothy 4:1-4. the new american standard translation.

Well Acadian....
You reasoning is not exactly sound as you are taking scripture completely out of context and applying it to your specific cause. Also, by your arguments that we must accept it because of Genesis etc, then we must accept everything in the O.T. You've learned the WTBS style of teaching well and are trying to build a case for your argument.
While the good ole, wacky weed has some good uses....it is not the cure all medicinal mana from heaven. I think it has gotten a bad rap as a drug demon to be sure. I enjoy the stuff once in a blue moon...(bout once a year or so). As a doctor I see no difference between this drug and a handful of prescription drugs.... a drug, is a drug, is a drug. So if the weed helps cancer patients out for pain, by god let's use it.
However I have seen plenty of examples of people over-induldging in the plant as well. As with alcohol a little bit here and there is ok in my book. But the biggest defenders of it's use tend to be "pot heads" who can't get by for a few hours without their fix. The potential for abuse is high, as with alcohol.
While I feel it is ok for people to do what they want in the privacy of their own homes, I am not of the ilk to legalize it and tax it. Just drop enforcement of a bad policy that wastes money and resources. As with alcohol if people smoke weed 90% will use in moderation...it's the other 10% we need to worry about. -

A funny thing happened to me the other day.
by TweetieBird injust had the co visit and a circuit assembly and the big push is on to do business territory and street witnessing and less door to door.
we've been encouraged to "go where the people are!
" which brings me to a funny coincidence.

Wow, and enlightened CO.... I have always wondered for YEARS AND YEARS...why they don't go out on nights and do biz territory.
Sad that you have to worry about some snoop turning you in for a simple physical activity they should have no biz in knowing about. -

My brother turned himself in for masterbation....
He then would be dragged into meetings every few weeks to see how he was doing with this issue.
THe only time I was in front of a committe was when a friend / roomate of mine turned himself in for having sex with his g/f. They got off with private reproof and a 20 minute meeting. I got hauled in because "I bought alcohol, and allowed my friend / roomate to drink it". I told them I lived with 4 people, 3 of us are of age - 1 is not. He was 20 1/2 years old. I didn't put a gun to his head to drink it...he helped himself to it. Puuhllezze! So they spent the next hour on a witch hunt asking me every question under the sun about what I might be doing wrong. Masterbate? Nope. Well if you don't masterbate you must be having sex with a woman? Nope. A man? Nope. Beastiality? I got up at this point and told them that they had obviously overstepped their bounds and I was going over to my father's house (he was presiding overseer) and tell them what they just did. They sat there stunned that I would tell them off and leave.
I told my father what had happened, and he said he was told they were simply going to talk to me. So my father called up one of the elders and that elder LIED and said it was just "a meeting" not a judicial committee matter. I yelled at them they were lying the next meeting... why had there been 3 elders there then? Why did the use the word "committee" when I first sat down with them. If I didn't "know the rules" they play by I would have been toast. Damn, Pharasis.
And you shall know them by their works.
