Have you ever wanted to punch a Circuit Overseer or his wife?
by Nellie ini was reading another post about a "dear old circuit overseers wife" and it immediately brought back to mind an experience i had with one that wasn't so dear at all .
.. i "knew" this woman before she went into the circuit work with her husband.
granted, i didn't know her well - but i had moved into her congregation a few weeks before she and her husband left to go into the circuit work.

U/C - I lived through this time - the whole "Responsible Childbearing in the time of the end" phase
One thing I'm particularly proud of was my insistance on being a mother (of more than one child) - My arguement with others had always been that "individually" we weren't assured living into the new system and since their line of reasoning is that resurrected ones will not marry and bear children, I had better have mine NOW. So I did!
That doesn't lessen or excuse her responsibility of being a shepard of the flock!

I can only assume that you had some serious issues with the elders at that hall - otherwise you would have targeted Bethel or the Headquarters. Did it help? Do you feel better? Done?

So are you saying she was rude and cold and thoughtless because she was a CO's wife,
or are you saying this particular woman, who happened to be a CO's wife, was rude and cold and thoughtless.
It's just that I have known rude, cold, thoughtless people who were not CO's wives. I have also known
warm, caring, thoughtful, CO's wives.
I'm definitely NOT saying that she was rude, cold and thoughtless because she was a CO's wife! What I am saying is that AS a CO's wife, she should handle herself and the "flock" with more care and tenderness than she exhibited. How does the saying go: "To whom much is given, much is expected." Her position in the organization demands more of her - whatever her personal feelings, she should never inflict that kind of negative/potentially damaging attitude towards others. What IF, after hearing her comments, a woman walked away and hurt herself or the baby? In my opinon, she should be held bloodguilty!

The Holidays.
by jeeprube inwell, this thanksgiving was the first one my wife and i officially celebrated.
the grand jw tradition of eating turkey, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie on thanksgiving day and excusing it with a "well turkey's cheap this time of year", is one we used to practice.
this year however it was official.. it makes me wonder about other holidays, and the bs the wts uses to forbid them.. any thoughts?

Us too. Our first official - now the next question: Will we buy a tree?

As I said in my previous post - I'm waaay past this woman and her narrow-minded opinions! Yes, she was one of those "it would have killed her if she had gotten pregnant class" - she'd probably have forced a miscarriage before she'd let her tiny waist expand in the horrors of pregnancy.
Anyone else care to share?

Thanks guys for your support - but this happened many years and 3 kids ago! I'm now the proud mother of four! It's a shame that this still bites! I wonder what kind of other damage she's left behind in her travels?

Before getting married in a JW hall were you if you have had sex?
by technics1200 in.
just want to know if it is normal practice for the elder giving your wedding talk to ask you and your partner if youve had sex, about 1 week before youre due to get married?.
happened to us, and we were f'in shocked!.

Nellie
My husband and I had dated for almost 4 years - The brother giving the talk was "cool" - he asked us "something" but phrased it in such a way that we were able to fudge an answer without anybody being pinned down. I knew I always liked him!

I was reading another post about a "dear old circuit overseers wife" and it immediately brought back to mind an experience I had with one that wasn't so dear at all . . .
I "knew" this woman before she went into the circuit work with her husband. Granted, I didn't know her well - but I had moved into her congregation a few weeks before she and her husband left to go into the circuit work.
The background: I lost 2 pregnancies before my son and one after him. (She didn't know this.) We were attending our district convention, and was finally comfortable enough with this pregnancy to tell others about it and start rejoicing! She walked up to me and hugged me "hello" and asked what was going on. I immediately smiled and said, "I'm pregnant." Now I expected this CIRCUIT OVERSEER'S WIFE to say "congratulations" - I expected this CIRCUIT OVERSEER'S WIFE to smile and give me a hug . . . to my surprise, what I got was a total look of revulsion on her face as she reared back and said "OHH NO! I'm soo sorry!" I wanted to say "what the fu-- is your problem?" What I did say is "I only have one son, you know." She then said something like, "well if you're happy," and walked away. I stood there stunned - to this day all I can think about is what if she had said that to someone else who was depressed over being pregnant? Can you imagine the damage she could have done? A weaker woman could have walked away and slit her wrists! A few weeks later, I lost the baby - I played with the idea of writing her and telling her she could rejoice now! I didn't - I'm a better person than that! But I've never forgotten her and I've never forgiven her either! I wish I had punched her in the face!

RACISM IN WT
by stillAwitness inthis article entitled :jws, blacks and discrimination emailed to me from an "inactive" friend of mine.
i don't know wether to be hurt or just plain pissed.
my question is has anyone read or seen any hints of racism amongst the wt even nowadays?

My experiences in the org is that the congregations as a whole speak with forked tongue. While there may not be any overt racial writings coming out in the publications - the people IN the congregations act in an entirely different manner.. .
My husband and I walked into a congregation once (we were moving into the area) and the room was divided by an aisle down the center. My immediate first reaction was that the blacks were sitting on one side and the whites were sitting on the other. Without hesitation, I immediately walked to the white side and sat down - my husband was following behind me. After we got home, I asked him if he had noticed anything weird about the hall - he said "yeah, the way it was divided - blacks and whites" Now the funny thing about this congregation is that the PO was BLACK.
Here in Florida, there is a big thing between those who speak spanish and those who don't. While skin color is not the issue on my side of town, the overall community feeling (even outside the org) is a we vs. them attitude. During the meetings most are friendly, but outside the meetings there is separation. Of course, money is also a great divider! Now on the other side of town, the skin color issue prevails.
