  My Bethel Experience Part 14

  my strange bethel courtship started with me trying to meet mike stillman's sister, even though he worked in the ink room next to my elevavator, we were not good friends, he was just a little to "country" for me........and on the righeous side too.

  they say "there is nothing more dangerious in combat then a new guy with a map!

  ".........and there was nothing more dangerious at bethel then a self righteous new boy.. anyway one beautiful saturday morning, in 1972, we were walking to the factory, mike happen to be walking with me, and he happen to say "god........i would give anything to get out of this city on a day like today"..........i said "well....... i have a car and no place to go.........you have a place to go and no car"...he wasn't quite sure of me, but.............next thing i knew, it's him and me and 4 of his nerdy friends driving to rhode island.. needless to say, it was a great weekend and debbie who had just turned 19 was happy that her brother finally brought someone home with him, who wasn't a nerd like his other friends.

  My Bethel Experience part 13

  most of us went back to bethel, thinking we wanted to make it our life long career......what better place to be right before 1975?.............that dream ended for the vast majority after just few months there, when they found out that something was very wrong.

  other wise why would anyone want to leave a spiritual paradice?....

  with only 2-5% staying after there 4 year commitment, and a very big percentage leaving before there time was even up.

  after sweating, praying, and driving my husband crazy for the last week, they called today.

  my second interview will be next wednesday sometime around 12 or 1pm, they'll call to finalize the time.

  I remember the excitement that went around the congregation when it was first reported that "Prince" had become a witness. Though there was one elder who scoffed at the idea that "someone like him" could ever accept the truth. Now I sit here and think, what could they have possibly said to have convinced someone like him to accept all their bs?

  At the end of the day - he's still BAD - there's nobody like him - he is a musical genius! Even when he's singing about "sister love" - bet he doesn't sing that song anymore . . . lol

  i was just curious-did any of you on this forum know each other while you were both still active j-dubs?

  i mean as friends or acquaintences that you only knew as jws, not family members.

  were you in the same congregation together?

  I shared this site with a good friend after I confessed to her that I was no longer going to meetings, etc. She joined, but doesn't come here as frequently as I do.

  My Bethel Experience Part 10

  there were guys at bethel, who had great jobs........like don brouex.....he was the receptionist at the 124 desk....checking in and "checking out" ......all the bethel tours and "hot" sisters......on there way through the "home tour"............that my friend, is not a real bethel job.. there were guys at bethel, that had great congergations with maybe only 2-4 bethelities in their halls.

  one hall, midtown had over 80 bethelites there.............. 3 old ladies 4 kids and a dog.

  odds of getting a home cook meal on sunday 0%.

  the the worst thing, someone could call you at bethel, was a "jack".............. as in " that guy is a real jack, he doesn't work at all".

  the other term not used very much anymore, was "pot licker" used basically the same way.there has been some bad things done at bethel.

  you name it, someone has done it...........but the absolute worst possible thing, a bethelite could do is be a theft!

  I enjoyed reading this. Growing up in NYC, we knew lots of Bethelites - I always wondered why they didn't talk much about being there.

  i've got extended family that live out of state who are active witnesses and my husband's father is an elder.

  my family is so not a part of our lives, that the only time we speak are for funerals.

  i don't even hear about births anymore.

  You know New Boy I think you're right. I want to invite them, but I don't want them to come . . .

  Just as a clarification - this family dysfunction existed even when we were active dubs. I didn't understand it then and I still don't today.

  The only one I would miss is my father-in-law. But he's so full of disappointment in us that I'm sure he would be a real downer. Actually, I'm not even sure if he would come. But I can't see us not inviting him - That's really the right thing to do. It's not like we plan on having an orgy or anything crazy, but I'm sure he'll notice that nobody from the congregation is there and feel uncomfortable. And then if he doesn't come, that will be just another hurt - him choosing not to come...

  I am mostly American Indian. I believe the Lakota Tribe. My mother's mother was 100% indian, but she died when my mother was 6 and we have absolutely no information on her family. My father's family is said to have Cherokee in it, but again I have no real information.

  Through the years I've tried to do research, but have come up blank. It's something I really want to explore.
