I have often entertained myself imagining that I could say to my mum: "No, you're going to grow old, and then you're going to die," just as a minor payback for the games the family plays. It isn't worth it though - it would just hurt and confuse her. She's too committed to having god solve all of her problems to survive the exit emotionally.

My mother told me today that the end is so close
by TooBad TooSad inshe has been a faithful jw for over 50 years.
she was taught that the end was coming in the late 50's.. today she said that the terrible conditions in the world today prove that the end is near.
i told her that i. think that conditions in the world were a lot worse during ww1 and ww2 and it looks like things.

My parents have hinted that we're all out of the will, even the four remaining good JW kids (they're disappointed with all of us; we don't pay them enough attention). As they have almost nil superannuation and are about to retire, when they'll have mortgage their house to fund their autumn years, which my sister has already taken out a significant loan against, and there are five of us.... I'm not going to concern myself with thirty or fifty grand.

Part 2: OMG - I did it - I told my Mom and Dad how I feel...
by Princess Daisy Boo in5 days after the big showdown with my mom, she called me today.
well she is a bigger person than me - i certainly did not have the guts to do it.
we made a bit of small talk and then she brought up saturdays discussion.

No, you're making a sensible choice. Neither of your options are great:
- losing them completely
- avoiding the great big elephant in the room so that you can remain in contact.
The second isn't perfect, but it's far less traumatic than the first. You can't expect a relationship in which you are really 'friends', because the difference between you involves the biggest thing in her life and the last thing you want in yours. See if you can make yourself comfortable with that.

Hook Lines or Phrases Jehovah's Witnesses Use to Control You
by flipper into control a person, or control a group of people , any cult , including jehovah's witnesses , have to gain your trust that they are the authority on what you need to know.
even people have been known to use these " catch phrases " to gain trust , or " hook lines " as you'd call them to gain control over groups of people or individually in their own lives.
see if you are familiar with these phrases which empower the sender of the phrase , but demands rapt allegiance from listeners to be the " gospel truth " without challenge , which can take the listeners power away.

Your Pretend Shrink is Back - Share Your Problems - I'll Help if I Can
by flipper inwell it's been about 2 to 3 months since i did a thread like this , so how have you all been doing in life?
relax , pull up a chair and your favorite cocktail , and tell me your problems - or at least how life is treating you.
we can make this a humorous thread or it can be serious , it's up to you.

I've had long hair for most of my life. I used to have nightmares about people cutting it off. Now I dream about shoes. What does this mean?

Remember when assemblies were fun?
by Aphrodite ini just remembered when i was a kid and we would go to the assembly, it was fun because we got to buy new clothes and put extra effort into looking good.
when we would get there you could save your seats and even save some for your friends, then go off looking for them.. i used to love our circuit assembly because of the food.
it was at the assembly hall and there was a big kitchen, some of my favourite brothers worked in that kitchen, sometimes i was allowed to go in and help.

Yeah as kids we found a lot of fun stuff to do during the breaks. We used to have races running along some pipes that traversed a creek on the property. We'd shake up lemonade cans and see how high we could get them to fizz up. At the DCs I loved the doughnuts for 30c of 'scrip' money. It didn't really make up for the several hours of tedium and being made to sit still while there was a beautiful day happening right outside the window.
One DC site was a racetrack with a river that went most of the way around it, we could watch the groomers tending the field and boats going by all day. When it got moved to a new indoor stadium there really was nothing to be distracted by. As the years went by I started finding them more and more depressing, and I remembered a while ago that even when I was a teenager I used to imagine hanging myself from the overhead beams, wondering how long the rope would need to be, that it would be kind of crap if I was wearing a dress hanging over all those people. I was one fecked up kid.

He's back in his hometown and going to meetings, I think he'll try to get reinstated, the poor suck. I think his mum and his sister are the primary reasons, but he wouldn't admit it. I don't think he ever found the real life after getting kicked out (and his disfellowshipping story has to be in the top ten ridiculous JCs), he just had a lot of fun. He's probably made life somewhat shallow and misses a lot of JW guys who used to be his 'friends'.
I just had no idea what to say to him, and still don't.

I recommend New Zealand; exchange rate even better than Australia, English-speaking, no culture shock, and some places with specacular scenery.
In fact if you decide to go in winter 2009 (July-Sep) let me know; we're going to ski NZ next year so we'll be there.

Shuning the shunner
by loosie inmy daughter goes to a school where one of the office personel is a jw.
my hubby is df'd i haven't been to a meeting in 3 years.
when we go into the office and have to talk to her she directs all of her responses to me even if my husband is the one that asked the question.. once my husband went in there with my daughter and this person didn't direct her answers to my husband who asked the question, but to my daughter who was just tagging along.. this is stupid.

Put it in writing. You don't know; maybe the school is tired of her and would like an excuse to get rid of her? She is showing religious intolerance, and that is unacceptable behaviour. It can get anybody fired.
