Beginning the road out.
by wozadummy inyes i'm new to this forum and i have been searching the net and reading with interest peoples comments here and on other sites.
as most know reaching out as a faithfull jw to others outside of the congregation is difficult at first ,as i guess we think anyone outside the congregation is wordly etc.
and we can't open up easily to "strangers" as jehovah would not approve.

Hello, welcome and congratulations! It's a long road, and it's the ride of my life! I'm so happy and just have to tell everybody about it, especially our new buddies.
I find this site so liberating; every time I read a new thought here it lets something go inside - it took years to coat my soul with so many lies, and it is taking a while to shake them. It will happen, and knowing that I'm not the only one (by a mile!) is so encouraging. Everybody here knows where you're at and what you need. Make yourself comfortable.
much love, Sass

I just had creepy shivers all over my body, stunned that thousands of people have submitted to it.
Stunned.

One last act of separation
by jeanniebeanz inwell, i was cleaning out the last of the boxes from our move to texas and i came across my old new world translation.. i stopped and looked at it for a while, leafed through the pages to see the notes, hastily scribbled during some talk or another, little pieces of my life and world... some of the comments triggering memories of conventions, or relatives, mainly though, triggering feelings of... nothingness.. nothingness... that is what my time as a witness has boiled down to.
years of my life offered gladly to an organization that i believed would show me, and those whom i loved, the way to a better life where there would be no, "sickness, death or suffering" all meant nothing.. it used to make me mad or sad thinking about these things, but now there is just nothing.. not even when i think about my dad.
i used to get so upset at having lost him; i'd cry and hope that he'd see the light and leave the organization.

Calling all BETHELITES
by YoursChelbie inif you have previously served at bethel, can you post word for word the "vow of poverty" that you are asked to take?
is this a written document that you keep?
has the wording of it changed a lot or always the same?

How did you treat your worldly relatives when you were a JW
by TallTexan ini had an interesting conversation the other day with a friend who is also an ex-jw.
this person is older than i am, and was a jw for a number of decades.
she was talking about worldly relatives that she basically ignored when she was a jw.

Mother pulled us out of contact with with them when she got the dunk; deliberately cutting them all off. They've waited it out, and see through it. I was too young to know, but went along with the feeling of superiority. My non-witness family have been so great to me since the disfellowshipping, I hope we become close.

HOW MANY ARE REALLY TRUE TO ORGANIZATION TEACHINGS???
by chuckyy inmy experience since leaving the jw's, knowing certain ones who still have contact, is that many jw's in good standing have done, or are doing things that could merit expulsion.
celebrating new year.
agreeing to blood transfusion.

None of them, because none of us are perfect, but some of us are caught (or dob ourselves in, dammit!).

Just had a visit from my mom
by Bumble Bee inabout two weeks ago, i had a fallout with my mother and sister.
they totally overreacted to a situation and said some pretty nasty things, called me apostate and said they never wanted to see me again.
i tried my hardest to not react the same way, and try to explain some things but they didn't want to listen.

I'm glad for you and her, good for her for letting go a little.
